“We went with zinc-manganese because fr devices wrn next t the skin, it’s a safer chemistry than lithium-in batteries, which can prduce deadly cmpunds when they break,” says Nguyen.
The resulting battery is flexible and can be stretched t twice its nrmal length, has a specific capacity f 160 mAh g-1 and keeps 75 percent f its capacity ver 500 charge and discharge cycles. Impressively, the team fund the battery t withstand 39 wash cycles s far.
