Last November,a kindergarten teacher,Robin Hughes, read her class a book about snow. The students listened closely. But Hughes noticed that some children looked puzzled because only a couple of kids had seen snow.
Hughes decided to call her sister for a favour,Amber Estes. “Would you be willing to ship a snowman to us if it snows?” Hughes called. Estes laughed it off and agreed, as Hughes always shared some uncommon ideas with her. A few days later, her neighbourhood got nearly 10 inches of snow. So, she walked out into the snow and built Lucky, a small snowman with blueberry eyes, and a carrot nose.
After about 10 days of refrigeration and planning, Lucky was on a nearly 800mile flight from Kentucky to Florida. Estes mailed Lucky in an insulated(有隔热保护的) container filled with ice packs. “If Lucky arrived in one piece, the plan was for him to keep his name,” Estes said. “If the experiment failed, he would be renamed Puddles.” That night, Estes stayed up late tracking the package.
On January 19, a postal driver delivered the snowman to the school. Hughes cut the box open before she presented the snowman to her students. To her surprise, Lucky had arrived almost unharmed. “I was so excited because he made it”, said Hughes. “All the children wanted to touch him.”
They asked if he was coming to life. “Ever since, at least twice a day, Hughes brings Lucky out from the cafeteria freezer so students can touch the snowman and ask questions. Cheers and wows fill the room every time Lucky is brought in.When his coat starts to get shiny, she takes him back to the freezer.
“This year, things are not normal for kids in the classroom or for adults,” she said. “This little snowman has created happiness. Hughes plans to melt Lucky before Earth Day and will use the water while planting a garden at the school.

Physical education, or PE, isn't required for all high school students. In some schools, it isn't offered for some different reasons. But should high school students have physical education? The answer is certainly “yes”.
Today many people don't do sports. But as is known to all, doing sports is very important for an adult. Teaching teens the importance of a healthy lifestyle and making fitness plans now can help teens put exercise in the first place as an adult.
High school isn't that easy. Many students are under a lot of stress. Stress can be harmful to a student's studies and life. Doing sports can help them deal with stress better, helping them live a happier life at school.
The American Heart Association says that 10 million kids and teens suffer from obesity(肥胖). Teens should get 60 minutes of physical activity per day to control their weight and to help their bones get stronger. The increase in activities that don't get teens to move around, such as computer games, means many teens don't get their required exercise. PE classes act as a public health measure(措施) to encourage physical activities and help teens have healthy weights.
Not doing sports increases teens' hazard of developing many diseases. An active lifestyle offers a good way of protection from these health problems. As much as 75 percent of healthcare spending goes toward treating medical conditions that can be prevented by lifestyle changes, according to the American College of Sports Medicine.
According to the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition (PCFSN), students who performed five hours of physical activities each week improved their academic(学业的) performance. Students from programs with no physical activity, who used the extra time for classroom study, did not perform better on tests than those who gave up some study time in support of physical education.
28. According to Paragraph 2, what does physical education in high school mean?
A. Making teens attach importance to exercise later.
B. Removing the stress faced by teens at school.
C. Getting teens to encourage adults to exercise.
D. Helping teens learn to make good plans.
29. What does the underlined word “hazard” in Paragraph 5 mean?
A. Happiness. B. Risk. C. Safety. D. Sadness.
30. According to the PCFSN, doing sports ________.
A. means making students choose between sports and studies
B. helps students make good use of all their time
C. means students adjust to their studies better
D. helps students do better in their studies
31. What is the text mainly about?
A. Why high school students should receive physical education.
B. Why some schools consider physical education important.
C. How schools can help students love doing sports.
D. How high school students can live a better life.

In contrast to the oftenheard views that robots will replace(替换) human workers, research firm Gartner predicts that artificial intelligence(AI) may actually create more jobs than it's expected to take away. By 2020, artificial intelligence has created 2.3 million jobs, going beyond the 1.8 million that it has replaced, the company said in a recent report. In the following five years to 2025, net(净得的) new jobs created in relation to AI will reach 2 million, according to the report.
The number of jobs affected will be different from industry to industry. The public sector, health care and education are expected to get the most jobs, while manufacturing and transportation may be hit the hardest, said Gartner's research director, Manjunath Bhat.
“Robots are not here to take away our jobs, they're here to give us a promotion—I think that's the way we should start looking at AI,” Bhat told reporters on Tuesday.
Gartner's positive predictions contrast with the warnings on the dangers of AI sounded by top technology industry voices such as KaiFu Lee, the founder of venture capital firm Sinovation Ventures. He said robots are likely to replace 50 percent of all jobs in the next decade.
Gartner admitted in its report that AI would cut millions of middle and lowlevel positions. But it stressed that more new jobs would be created, including highlyskilled jobs, management positions and even lowskilled jobs.
“IT leaders should not only focus on the expected increase of jobs,” the report said. “For the greatest value, focus on improving people with AI. Enrich people's jobs, reimagine old tasks and create new industries. Change your culture to make it rapidly adaptable to AIrelated opportunities or threats.”
32. What does Gartner think of AI?
A. Human workers will be out of work. B. AI will create more jobs than it cuts.
C. AI will run out of human control. D. New industries will replace old ones.
33. Who will probably suffer job loss according to Gartner?
A. Teachers. B. Dentists. C. Bus drivers. D. Social workers.
34. What's KaiFu Lee's attitude towards AI development?
A. Uncertain. B. Hopeful. C. Worried. D. Confused.
35. What does Gartner suggest IT leaders do in the future?
A. Make use of new industry opportunities.
B. Equip people with training programs.
C. Stop old business and turn to the new one.
D. Welcome AI and adapt to the challenge.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I couldn't forget the way I was frozen(吓呆) in front of the class today. My teacher, Mr. Liu had divided the class into groups to do speeches. Today was my turn. However, my hands shook so badly that I couldn't read my notes. My voice became softer even to silence. Mr. Liu kindly ended my part of speech even though I clearly didn't finish. He also asked me to stay after class for a moment.
“Betty, I know you are shy, but you worked so hard on this project. I'd hate to see you give up on yourself.” Mr. Liu said, “If I give you another chance tomorrow, do you think you can find courage?” I nodded, grateful for the chance. I went as quickly as I could to my next class, keeping my head down and hoping the school day would end soon.
When I reached home that afternoon, I could see an inviting light coming from the kitchen windows. Mum was baking(烘焙). She studied my face as I came into the kitchen. “What's wrong, Betty?”
Tears shone in my eyes. I told her the whole story. Mum was silent for a moment with her hands busy with the cake. “Why is it that you can talk to me about anything and everything but you can't talk to your class?” Mum asked. She set the time right and then said, “Let me show you something.”
I followed her to the bedroom. There she showed me a book filled with pictures. In it there was a blue ribbon(丝带) that said “First Place” and a picture of herself when she was very young, standing with her parents.
“I won it for public speaking. I started the school year as the shyest girl on the speech team, but I ended the year as the blue ribbon winner. It wasn't easy at first—not sure of myself at all. I worked hard, and mostly I faced my tears. You just need to find your courage.”
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150 左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Hearing Mum's words, I stared(注视) at the valuable blue ribbon, lost in thought. _______________________________________________________________________________
