Some British and American people like to invite friends and colleagues for a meal at home. You should not be upset if your English friends don’t invite you home. It doesn’t mean they don't like you.
Dinner parties usually start between 7 and 8 p.m., and end at about 11. Ask your hosts what time you should arrive. It’s polite to bring flowers, chocolates or a bottle of wine as a present.
Do you want to be extra polite? Say how much you like the room, or the pictures on the wall. But remember not to ask how much things cost.
You’ll probably start the meal with soup, or something small as a “starter” (第一道菜), then you’ll have meat or fish with vegetables, and then a dessert (甜食), followed by coffee. It's polite to finish everything on your plate and to take more if you want it. Some people eat bread with their meal, but not everyone does.
Before they take out their cigarettes after the meal, most people usually ask, “Do you mind if I smoke here?”
Did you enjoy the evening? Call your hosts the next day, or write them a short “thank you” letter. Perhaps it seems funny to you, but British and American people always say, “thank you, thank you, and thank you.”

Feb. 17 should have been the start of the spring semester for many middle and primary schools in China. However, to control the new coronavirus outbreak (新型冠状病毒疫情), many schools have delayed the start of the semester, following instructions from the Ministry of Education (MOE). But students in China are still studying.
Instead of having class at school, many students in Beijing and Guangzhou began their first day of online classes on Feb 17. Students in Shanghai will start online classes on March 2.“In the morning, I have English class, followed by Chinese and math,” Liu Bo, a Junior 3 student from Beijing, told Xinhua. “I have also learned about epidemic prevention.”
According to the MOE, students are mainly taking classes to review previous knowledge rather than taking new classes during the online study period. Online courses are required to include content about epidemic prevention, psychological health (心理健康) and educational activities (教育活动).
“Online courses are only temporary measures (暂时的措施) taken during the epidemic, so when the new semester begins, schools should not replace (替代) classroom teaching with online classes,” Lü Yugang from the ministry told China Daily.
The ministry also called on schools not to increase their students’ schoolwork burden (负担). Schools should not ask students to study online for long periods of time or study things beyond (超出) their curriculum (课程). Students must have enough time to rest, the ministry added. Also, it stressed that protecting students’ eyesight must be a priority (优先).

Gao Defu, 10, is a student in a primary school in a small village in Guizhou. He used to go hungry or have only an ear of corn for lunch at noon. But now, Gao and his classmates have better food and vegetable dishes for free every day, thanks to the free lunch program.
The program was started by Deng Fei, a journalist at the Phoenix Weekly (《凤凰周刊》). Early this year, Deng met Xiao Yu, a primary school teacher from Guizhou, and was told that students in Xiao’s school didn’t have lunch to eat. Instead, they drank water to lessen their hunger.
Deeply shocked, Deng decided to do something for kids in the poor areas. He posted a message on his microblog (微博) saying he wanted to build a canteen (食堂) at Xiao’s school. The message soon got the support and attention (注意) of tens of thousands of people around the country. In March, some 500 reporters, along with a dozen news organizations and charity funds (慈善基金), finally set up the free lunch program.
Local teachers and foundation workers calculated (计算) that one lunch for one child cost 3 yuan. People can donate for a meal, a month’s worth of meals, or a year’s worth of meals for children on the Internet by going to http://www.mianfeiwucan.org.
According to the China Development Research Foundation (基金会) , there are about 23 million resident students (住宿生) in central and western rural areas. Many of them come from poor families and can’t afford nutritious lunches. Now, schools with kids that can’t afford lunch can apply for help through the free lunch program’s official website.

第二节 阅读表达 (共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
Communication is the process by which we exchange information between people. To communicate well is to understand and to be understood. Communication can be successful only when both the sender and the receiver understand the same information.
Good communication skills are keys to success in life, work and relationships. Without effective(有效的) communication, a message can turn into error, misunderstanding, or even disaster.
In today's highly informational and technological environment, it has become more important to have good communication skills. Here are some important steps to communicate effectively.
Know what you want to say and why. Understand clearly the purpose of your message. Know to whom you are communicating and why.
How will you say it? We all know that it's not always what you say, but how you say it , that matters. Begin by making eye contact. You show trust and confidence when you look at others in the eyes when you speak. Second, pay attention to your body language, since it can say so much more than your words. By standing with your arms easily at your side, you tell others that you are open to hearing what they have to say.
Communication is a two-way street. After you have said what you have to say, stop and listen. Practice your listening skills. Be considerate of others who are talking. Listen carefully and never cut them off.
根据上面短文的内容,回答问题。(每题答案不超过5个单词)

43.What should you pay attention to when communicating?
