I was born with a rare condition. Living with no hands and no feet has made me who I am today.
My parents helped me develop tools to overcome my challenges. When I was two, my dad decided that my family would stop helping me eat. He knew that one day I’d live on my own, so I’d have to look after myself. I learned to eat with a spoon, and then with a knife and fork. It gave me a huge sense of achievement.
My darkest moment fell when I was 10. My family had moved from Indiana to Georgia. In Indiana, friends treated me as normal. But in Georgia, it was different. I felt very aware of my disability. I worried I’d have to live at home forever. I felt hopeless about the future.
My world changed when I got into sports. I started playing football. Everything came together when I made my first tackle at age 11. It was my first real achievement.
Everyone I played against was able-bodied. At first, I struggled. But I threw everything I had into learning to be the best player. I turned my lack of height into a weapon.
Then I decided to start wrestling. I lost 35 games, but then I had a breakthrough. I had an amazing coach who helped me invent moves that took advantage of my strength. My different body type was a psychological advantage-opponents didn’t know how to handle it. I eventually finished 12th in the103-pound weight class in the championships.
I keep going in the face of difficulties. Instead of thinking about the final goal, I focus on the near future. I just figure out how to do the best I can with the next few feet in front of me.
24. Why did the writer’s father stop helping him eat?
A. To push him to be more independent.
B. To let him get used to the new tools.
C. To give him a sense of achievement.
D.To prepare him for his new life in Georgia.
25. How was the writer’s new life in Georgia at first?
A. The writer got help from friends in Georgia.
B. The writer felt anxious about his life.
C. The writer lived the same life as before.
D. The writer showed great talent in sports.
26. How did the writer become good at wrestling?
A. By training himself independently.
B. By learning how to better use his strength.
C. By facing difficulties bravely.
D. By learning from different opponents.
27. Which of the following statements is true about the writer?
A. He highly values the final goal.
B. He focuses on what’s directly ahead.
C. He complains a lot about his misfortune.
D. He dreams big despite his disability.

While ChatGPT answered a variety of questions raised by testers successfully, some responses were noticeably off. In fact, Stack Overflow—a website for programmers—didn’t allow users to share information from ChatGPT, saying that it’s “harmful to the site and to users who are asking or looking for correct answers.”
Beyond the issue of spreading incorrect information, the tool could also be used to explain problematic thoughts, and as with all AI tools, spread biases (偏见) based on the pool of data on which it’s trained. Typing something involving a CEO, for example, could arouse a response assuming that the individual is white and male, for example.
“While we’ve made efforts to make the model refuse unsuitable requests, it will sometimes respond to harmful instructions or exhibit biased behavior,” OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT, said on its website.“We’re using the Moderation API to warn or stop certain types of unsafe content, but it still has some false negatives and positives for now. We’re eager to collect user feedback (反馈) to aid our ongoing work to improve this system.”
Still, Lian Jye Su, a research director at market research company ABI Research, warns the chatbot is operating “without understanding the context of the language.”
“It is very easy for ChatGPT to give plausible-sounding (听起来合理) but incorrect or senseless answers,” he said.“It guessed when it was supposed to explain and sometimes responded to harmful instructions or exhibited biased behavior. It also lacks regional and country-specific understanding.”
While ChatGPT is free, it does put a limit on the number of questions a user can raise before having to pay. When Elon Musk, a co-founder of OpenAI, recently asked Altman on Twitter about the average cost per ChatGPT chat, Altman said:“We will have to monetize (货币化) it somehow at some point; the compute costs are eye-watering.”
28. Why does the author mention Stack Overflow?
A. To tell how narrow-minded it is.
B. To reveal (揭露) the competition it has with ChatGPT.
C. To show the negative influence of ChatGPT.
D. To indicate ChatGPT’s strong ability.
29. What is the 3 paragraph mainly about?
A. The problem OpenAl is now facing.
B. The reason for the use of Moderation API.
C. The efforts OpenAI make for improvement.
D. The success in solving OpenAI’s problem.
30. Why does ChatGPT have problems?
A. It does not do market research.
B. It only works through guessing.
C. It cannot respond properly based on contexts.
D. It holds bias on all underdeveloped regions.
31. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Is ChatGPT good enough?
B. How to make full use of ChatGPT?
C.ChatGPT: More Money-saving.
D. ChatGPT: Wave of the Future.
D
The e-commerce company that retailers(零售商)talk about most these days is neither Amazon, the American giant, nor Alibaba, China’s biggest. It is Pinduoduo(PDD), a Chinese firm that started in 2015 as an online food supplier, but whose success has driven its market value above $200bn. Last year it was China’s fastest-growing Internet stock(股票), rising by 330%.
PDD attracts attention for two reasons. One is its business model. David Liu, vice-president of strategy, explains that it has drawn on the popularity of smart phone in China to create an e-commerce experience in which people club together to buy products from robot vacuum-cleaners to bananas. During the pandemic(疫情)this has expanded into a fast-growing business across thousands of towns and villages, in which PDD’s users gather to buy local farm produce at low prices. Some call this “community group-buy”. Mr. Liu calls it “interactive commerce”. It is one of the hottest parts of the Chinese Internet.
The second is the way PDD has broken the record of giants of online shopping. Until a few years ago, China’s e-commerce market seemed a two-way competition between Alibaba and JD. com, a competitor platform. Elinor Leung of CLSA expects PDD’s share of online retail in China to go beyond that of JD in 2021. She expects the number of users over Alibaba. And although PDD put a huge amount of money to lower the prices of goods, ensuring the customers from poorer parts of China easy access to its app, she thinks it may turn profitable this year.
Remarkably the key to its success focused on parts of the market they have been unable to reach instead of defeating its bigger competitors. Although online sales of groceries have rocketed during the pandemic, less than a tenth of the 8. 1trn yuan ($1. 25trn) farm-produce market is bought and sold digitally. “ We are continuing to grow the pie,”says Mr Liu. That lesson applies elsewhere too. However, no matter how a future market looks, there is opportunity for new online businesses because e-commerce is at an early stage of development.
32. What does the underlined “club together” mean in Paragraph 2?
A. Share the expenses. B. Have a club together.
C. Buy something in groups. D. Interact with each other.
33. What mainly makes PDD so successful?
A. Competing with giants of online shopping.
B. Lowering the price of goods.
C. Exploring new markets.
D. Ensuring easy access to the app.
34. Which of the following may Elinor Leung agree with?
A. E-commerce has yet to be developed fully.
B. PDD’s share of online retail in China has gone beyond that of JD in 2021.
C. PDD is China’s fastest-growing largest Internet business.
D. PDD may end up making profits this year.
35. What’s Mr Liu’s attitude towards the future e-commerce?
A. Negative. B. Objective. C. Causal. D. Positive.

That night, I quarreled with my mother, then stormed out of the house. While on the road, I remembered that I did not have any money in my pocket, and I did not even take my cell phone with me to make a call home.
At the same time, I went through a noodle shop. Picking up the sweet fragrance, I suddenly felt very hungry. I wished for a bowl of noodles, but I had no money! The seller saw me standing before the counter and asked, “Hey, little girl, you want to eat a bowl?”
“But…but I do not carry money…” I shyly replied.
“Okay, I’ll treat you.” the seller said. “Come in, I will cook you a bowl.”
A few minutes later the owner brought me a steaming bowl of noodles. After eating some pieces, I cried.
“What is it?” He asked.
“Nothing. I am just touched by your kindness!” I said as I wiped my tears. “Even a stranger on the street gives me a bowl of noodles, and my mother, after a quarrel, chased me out of the house. She is cruel!”
The seller sighed, “Girl, why do you think so? Think again. I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you felt that way. Your mother has been taking care of you since you were little, why were you not grateful and why did you hurt your mom?”
I was really surprised after hearing that.
Why didn’t I think of that? A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel grateful, and my mother has raised me since I was little and I have never felt so, not even a little. I thought she was supposed to take care of me and love me.
On the way home, I thought in my head what I would say to my mother when I arrived home: “Mom, I’m sorry, I know it is my fault, please forgive me…”

According to one estimate, however, humans kill 300 million sharks every year.(虽然鲨鱼袭击事件确实发生,但却非常罕见,然而,据估计,人类每年杀死3亿只鲨鱼)”可知,人类每年杀死3亿只鲨鱼,下文“Why should we save the sharks?(为什么我们应该保护鲨鱼)”提到我们应该保护鲨鱼,所以F项“这个数字是一个警告,许多种类的鲨鱼可能会灭绝”符合语境,F项中“This number”指代上文的“300 million”,故选F项。

【39题详解】根据上文“First, vitamin energy drinks and leather goods can be made from shark parts.(首先,鲨鱼的部分可以制成维生素能量饮料和皮革制品)”及下文“In addition, shark meat is sold around the world, sometimes under misleading names such as rock salmon or whitefish.(此外,鲨鱼肉在世界各地销售,有时会被冠以误导性的名字,如岩鲑或白鱼)”可知,本段是描述鲨鱼制品,B项“鲨鱼油也被用于许多流行的美容产品中”符合语境,故选B项。
【40题详解】根据上文“Fishermen cut the shark’s fins off and then throw the shark back into the water, still alive.(渔民割下鲨鱼的鱼鳍,然后把还活着的鲨鱼扔回水中)”可知,被割掉鱼鳍的鲨鱼被扔回海里,结合下文“Sharks breathe by swimming, so a shark that can’t swim will die.(鲨鱼通过游泳呼吸,所以不会游泳的鲨鱼会死亡)”可知,没有鱼鳍的鲨鱼不会游泳,所以几天就会死亡,C项“然后鲨鱼慢慢死去,有时会持续几天”符合语境,故选C项。

第四部分:写作
Be smart online learners
Online learning has become an important way to study. However, it has both advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, it is convenient and time-saving, allowing us to learn anytime and anywhere we like. Besides, it provides us with a wide range of learning resources and flexible learning ways. On the other hand, there is a greater chance of us being drawn to social media and other sites. We may also develop physical problems as a result of sitting in front of the screen for a long time.
To avoid these problems, we should try our best to concentrate on our study and take enough breaks from the screen to refresh our mind and body.
读后续写参考答案
Meanwhile many memories came back into my mind. When I was ill, she was always the one taking care of me. When I had trouble with my study, she never lost faith in me and encouraged me to keep going. When I arrived home during the weekend, she always prepared my favourite food. All her kindness came back to me. I should be grateful for all she had done for me. I realized that I should return home immediately and say sorry to my mother.
When arriving home, I saw my mother sitting at the dinner table, worried and tired. She must have been looking for me everywhere. I was ready for her anger and shouts. However, before I could apologize, my mother saw me and gently said: “oh, honey, thank God, you’re back! Come inside. You are probably very hungry? I cooked your favorite noodles, come and eat while they are still hot...” No longer able to control myself, I cried in her arms. “I’m sorry, mom, please forgive me.” I whispered to her through tears, extremely ashamed of myself.
听力原文:
1. M: I finished the novel Gone with the Wind that you gave me. It was really good! I wish our teachers could
recommend more books like this in school!
W: Great! My grandmother read this book to me when I was young. I like it so much.
2. W: I’ve heard that great progress has been made in self-driving cars. Some engineers are testing them now in
China and the U.S.
M: The officials in the U.K. are working on laws about self-driving cars. Maybe we’ll soon see people driving
them in our town.
3. W: I’m Lily Brown. I booked a single room online.
M: Let me check…It shows that there is a room from Friday to Sunday under your name.
W: Sorry, there are some changes now. After the meeting, I’ll go to a party. So I’m going to leave for home
next Monday.
4. W: How was your lunch break, Vince? I didn’t see you in the dining room.
M: I didn’t go there because I’m too tired today. My daughter was sick last night, so I had to take care of her.
W: Oh, I hope she will get well soon.
5. W: For me, one hour of exercise in the morning is a good way to start a day. But if I don’t shower after going
to the gym, I’ll feel uncomfortable all day long.
M: Well, I always do exercise on weekend afternoons with my friends.
6-7
W: I don’t like pushing you to prepare for the speech competition, but I want you to enjoy the experience of
sharing your ideas with others.
M: Thanks, Tina. But I’m only good at writing poems. It’d be easier for me to publish these pieces instead of
delivering a speech to an audience.
W: I know how you feel. But our teachers and friends will be excited to hear you speak.
M: I’m worried, Tina. I’m just not that confident like you.
W: Almost all people feel nervous like you before giving speeches. But some people learn how to manage their
emotions. Practice with me, and I’ll show you the way.
8-10
W: It’s 20 degrees outside! What a good chance to enjoy the springtime in Canada! Let’s go to the park for a
picnic. Many people fly kites there.
M: But we had to work from home until 5:00 p. m. The sunset will be around 6:00 p.m. We still have three
hours until then.
W: OK. I have a bag with potato chips and chocolate bars. Should we bring some coffee or tea?
M: I don’t need any food or drinks. I just want to lie down on the grass and have a breath of fresh air.
W: That sounds lovely. We also need a large piece of cloth to lay on the ground in the park.
M: Let’s stop by Jack’s apartment on the way. As he just had a picnic last week, he must have what we want.
W: Good. But his home is within walking distance, so we can walk instead of driving!
11-13
W: I love studying literature, but I’m not sure if I should keep this major through the rest of my college years.
It’s a hard decision to make.
M: Well, do you have any problems with your classes?
W: Actually, the classes are great, and I have a relaxing schedule. I’m considering choosing some other courses.
But I don’t want to let Mom and Dad down.
M: Don’t worry. Although Mom and Dad chose literature as their major when they were in college, you still
can choose anything you want! They’ll be happy for you. So am I.
W: Thanks. Our family has a positive impact on my interests. I know you want to become a translator after you
graduate next year. But I just started university and want to consider other directions.
M: That’s great. What about education?
W: I talked with my teachers about this before, but I’d like to take more courses in math and science.
M: I never studied those subjects much. But if you’d like to try them, you’ll always have my support!
14-17
W: Hello, is that Patrick Jones?
M: Yes, I am.
W: Hi, this is Mrs. Norman. I’m calling to confirm the application you sent to our company. You’d be a good
fit for our team. Can I hear more about your work experience?
M: Absolutely. I studied computer technology at university. But after graduating, I changed my plan. Recently,
I’ve been studying business and working at a bank.
W: You applied for a sales position. How did the idea come into your mind?
M: My roommate is a salesperson in a foreign trade company. He has always talked about how to sell garden
tools abroad. Then I decided to follow in his footsteps.
W: Interesting, Patrick. We’re a new company and want to find young salespeople. One thing we care about is
how long you’d like to work here.
M: As I’m a young worker, it’s my goal to find my way within a company in the following years.
W: Great, Patrick. I’ll invite you to meet our sales director next week. But while you’re on the phone, could
you briefly chat with our hiring manager?
M: Sure, sounds great.
18-20
Welcome to Local Life. Today we have a warm story about a young girl named Samantha. One year ago, her
project on the environment became well-known around our town. Now, a story about her dog is inspiring us
again. Last year, she bought her dog Rover from a pet shop in another city. One day last month, she left Rover
alone in her house. But when she came back, she couldn’t find him. She was so sad. So Samantha posted
information online and searched local parks with some volunteers. Two weeks ago, she came into our studio to
make a news announcement. This was the first time I met Samantha. Finally, because of Samantha’s various
efforts, Rover has been found. This morning, a man saw a dog while he was working on his farm 100
kilometers north of town. Then, he recognized Rover from the news. He got Rover on his truck and drove him
to our TV station. Now, he’s here with Rover. We are waiting for Samantha here, and we’ll update the end of
this story—so don’t go anywhere! But first, let’s look at the weather conditions tomorrow.
