形容词，巨大的；庞大的

【知识点2】cause

①及物动词，造成；引起，后面可以直接跟造成的结果或引发的事情作宾语。

cause (sb. ) sth. (给某人）造成某事

cause...to do sth. 导致......做某事

☞Driving after drinking caused many accidents.

酒后驾车造成了很多事故。

【辨析】too much, too many和much too

（1）too much 意为太多，其后接不可数名词；还可作状语修饰动词。

☞I have too much homework this evening.

今天晚上我有太多的家庭作业了。

（2）too many意为“太多”，其后接可数名词复数形式。

☞There are two many people in the in the supermarket.

There are too many people in the supermarket.

超市里的人太多了。

（3）much too意为“太”，后接形容词或副词。

☞You are much too fat. 你太胖了。

【知识点3】noise

为名词，意为“噪声；杂音”，指刺耳、尖锐的声音。其形容词为noisy意为“喧闹的；嘈杂的”。

make a noise意为“吵闹”。

【知识点1】believe

动词，相信, 其后可接名词、代词或从句作宾语。

☞I believe the little girl.

我相信这个小女孩的话。

【辨析】believe sb. 与believe in sb.

☞I believe her, but I don’t believe in her.

我相信她的话，但我不信任他。

4. That’s almost one fifth of the world’s population, that is, about 7 billion. 那几乎是世界约70亿人口的五分之一。

【知识点】one fifth

意为“五分之一”，在英语中分数的表达为：分子使用基数词，分母使用序数词，当分子大于一时，分母使用复数形式。

“分数+of +名词”短语做主语时，谓语动词的单复数取决于of后面的名词的数。

Is the world too crowded?Well that's a hard question to answer. It's all a matter of perspective(视角).In Montana,you might drive for a mile in any direction and not see another human being.In Macao, about 30,000 people live in every square kilometer!

What is true is that the world's population doesn't stay the same. It has been increasing at a very fast rate(比例).That's in part because in each generation(代) there are more people who then have more children than in the last generation.

Five hundred years ago,the population of the world was about 460 million. In 1900,the world's population was under 2 billion. Right now it is doubling every 40 years.
