Jhn Byntn Priestley (1894-1984) was bm in the English cunty f Yrkshire, and knew early n that he wanted t becme a writer. When Wrld War 1 brke ut, Priestley jined the army, and escaped death n a number f ccasins. After the war, he gained a degree frm Cambridge University, and then mved t Lndn, where he wrked as a freelance writer. During Wrld War II, he presented a weekly radi prgramme, w hich became immensely ppular. Priestley wrte many successful articles, essays, nvels and plays, but is best remembered fr his play An Inspectr Calls. Priestley lved snw and expressed a desire t live in a cuntry where it ften snwed.
