Teaching objectives:
1. Enable the students to learn the reading skills.
2. Guide the students to write love stories about family.
3. Teach the students to know the conflict of cultural differences between China and the West, and develop right values of life.
Evaluation objectives:
1. The students can check whether their predictions are right or not after reading the passage to check their ability of predicting.
2. The students can evaluate their rending ability through the item“Learning to learn”to improve their reading ability.
Teaching key and difficult points:
1. To improve the students’ reading skills.
2. To write love stories about family.
Teaching methods:
Cooperative Teaching Method; Task-based Approach; Communicative Approach
Teaching procedures:
Step1:Lead in and make predictions
Ask the students to read the picture on Page3 and make predictions.
What were they doing?
How did Alistair think at that moment?
What kind of writing style will we meet?
Teacher: Are your predictions correct? Let’s read the text and check it.
Step2:Talk to the text
Let the students read the text and discuss the question“What is said”in it.Then figure out the frame of a narrative and feel the emotion Alistair has(暗线)
Step3 Talk to author
Let the students read the text again and know how the text is developed. And answer the following questions.
(1)Why does the writer ask a question in the beginning?
Suggested answer:To get readers interested in the story and lead in the characters.
(2) Why does the author end the story by adopting the last sentence?
Suggested answer:It ends the story by answering the question in the first paragraph.
In other words,“Question---Answer style”.
1. In the climax, what technique does the author adopt?
Suggested answer:Quote speech or views.
2. From which person’s perspective(人称)do they tell the story?The first person or third person?
Suggested answer:The third person
3. Why does the author choose the third person to tell the story?What the story will be like if the author chooses the first person?
Suggested answer:The third person;It tells a story objectively and is easy to make judgments.
The first person:It’s convenient to give a vivid description of a scene and express emotion and feelings if the author choose the first person.
4. Does the writer describe people’s feelings directly or indirectly?
Suggested answer:Indirectly.
Step4:Talk to the author
Read the text and think about why the author wrote it this way.Answer the following questions.
Why is it said?(作者为什么写)
1. What’s the character of the elder brother Alistair(key words)?Show your reason
Suggested answer:Courageous, kind, selfless, caring, confident, devotional, positive, competitive
2. Do you have a sister or brother?What’s your ideal relationship?
