本课时通过谈论企鹅导入新内容的学习。通过读前看图、快速阅读掌握各部分大意、细读短文完成表格和读后延伸练习等各项任务，帮助学生理清文章脉络结构，把握文章细节内容。指导学生学习并掌握新语言点。最后，通过课堂达标训练，检测学生对本课时知识的掌握情况。

教学目标

通过本课时的学习，让学生达成以下目标：

1.知识目标

(1)单词：announce, spaghetti, hoax, discovery, lady, cancel, officer, believable, disappear, embarrassing

(2)短语：sell out

(3)句型:①By the end of the day, more than 10,000 people had phoned the TV station to find out how to get this water.

Step 1　Warming up

T: We have learned about April Fool’s Day. Have you ever played jokes on others on April Fool’s Day? Have you ever been fooled by others? Tell your story to your partner.

1. Show the picture to class and ask them if penguins can fly. Talk about the animal with class.

2. Watch a video about penguins.

Step 3　Reading

Before reading, ask the students to look at the picture in 2b. Then answer the question below.

What can you see in the picture?

Answers: A UFO.

1. Ask the students to read the passage quickly. Then match each paragraph with the main idea.

Step 6　Language points

1. It happens on April 1st every year and is a day when many people play all kinds of tricks and jokes on each other. 它在每年的四月一日，这是一个许多人会互相开各种玩笑或恶作剧的日子。

play tricks on sb. 意为“捉弄某人”；play jokes on sb. 意为“对某人开玩笑”。

It’s impolite to play jokes on disabled people.

对残疾人开玩笑是不礼貌的。

2. Many people ran to their local supermarkets to buy as much spaghetti as they

could. 许多人跑到当地的超市尽可能多地买意大利面。

“as +much+不可数名词+as one can/could” 相当于“as + much+不可数名词+ as possible”，意为“尽可能多……”。

Let’s take as much water as we can. 咱们尽可能多带些水吧。

3. ...all of the spaghetti across the country had been sold out.

……全国所有的意大利面都卖光了。

sell out意为“卖完；售完；出售”。

Train tickets to Beijing were sold out half an hour ago.

通往北京的火车票半小时前就卖光了。

4. In another famous trick a TV show in England reported the discovery of special water. 在另一个著名的恶作剧中，英国一家电视节目报道发现了一种特殊的水。

discovery 名词，意为“发现；发觉；被发现的事物”，其动词形式是discover，意为“发现”。

He knew that he had made a new discovery.

他知道他已经有了一个新发现。

5. Many April Fool’s jokes may end up being not very funny.

许多愚人节玩笑的结局并不那么有趣。

end up意为“结束；以……告终”，后面常跟介词短语或动词的-ing形式。

Every time she saw that movie, she ended up crying her eyes out.

她每次看那部电影，最后都哭得跟泪人似的。

The writer ended up his speech with a poem at last. 

那个作家最后以一首诗结束了他的演讲。

6. The lady was so happy because she really wanted to get married.

那位女士如此高兴，因为她真的想结婚。

marry 动词，意为 “嫁，娶，结婚”。

(1) marry sb. 嫁给某人；娶了某人；和某人结婚

(2) get married 结婚

(3) get/be married to sb. 与某人结婚

John is going to marry Jane. 约翰要和简结婚了。
