Step 1 Review
Let the students have a conversation in pairs to review the feelings.
Show the class some pictures and review the feelings. Start like this:
A: How do you feel today?
B: I’m not happy.
A: What’s wrong? Are you ...?
B: Yes, I am./ No, I’m not. I’m...
Step 2 Presentation
1. Show the class some pictures and teach the new words matter, stomachache, headache, better and the expressions have a stomachache, have a headache, have a cold, had better, see a doctor, What’s the matter (with…)? by using the conversation between the teacher and the class.
T: How do they feel?
Ss: They feel sick.
T: Yes. What’s the matter?
Ss: …
T: He has a stomachache. He has a headache and he has a cold. Can we help them?
Ss: Sorry, we can’t. But they had better see a doctor.
2. Get the students to remember the new words and expressions.
Step 3 Listening and judging
T: Look! Jim and Wang Mei feel sick today. Listen and write T or F.

Step 7 Reading and acting
1. Get the class to read the conversations in Part 1 following the recording together.
2. Act them out in pairs.
Step 8 Presentation
1. Show the class the pictures and teach the new word medicine and the phrases take/have the medicine, stay home, have a rest by saying:
medicine /ˈmedsn/ n. 药
Look! This is the medicine. If you feel sick, you should take/have the medicine. You should stay home and have a rest, too.
take/have the medicine 吃药
stay /steɪ/ home 待在家里
have a rest /rest/ 休息一下
2. Get the students to remember the new word and expressions.
Step 9 Listening and answering (Part 2)
Play the recording for the class to listen and answer the question.
What’s the matter with Danny?
Answer: He feels sick and very cold. He has a headache and he has a cold.
Step 10 Reading and filling
1. Get the class to read the conversation in Part 2 and fill in the blanks. (Let’s Do It! No. 2)

2. Get the class to read the conversation again and fill in the blanks.

The doctor may ask:
What’s wrong?
What’s the matter?
Are you OK?
The doctor may say:
Take this medicine.
Have a good rest.
Stay home.
Possible version:
Doctor: Hi, young man. What’s the matter?
A: Oh, I hurt my head.
Doctor: Do you have a headache?
A: Yes, I do.
Doctor: Let me see. Oh, not serious. Take this medicine. Stay home and have a good rest.
A: OK. Thanks a lot, Doctor.
Select some pairs to make up a dialogue in front of the class.

你最好去看医生,王梅。
(1) had better do sth. 最好做某事。用来表示对别人的劝告、建议或一种愿望。其否定形式为had better not do sth.(最好不要做某事)。had better可缩写为’d better。
You’d better go home at once. 你最好立刻回家。
You’d better not do that. 你最好不要那样做。
(2) see a doctor 看医生。相当于go to a/the doctor(去看医生)。
She looks bad. She’d better see a doctor.
她看上去气色不好,她最好去看医生。
3. What’s the matter? 怎么了?
What’s the matter (with…)? (……)出什么事?/(……)怎么了?
相当于What’s wrong(with…)?。可用于询问不好的事或医生询问病人。
What’s the matter with Tom? = What’s wrong with Tom? 汤姆怎么了?
4. Take this medicine. 服这药。
medicine n. 药
表示内服药时,常为不可数名词。表示各种各样的药时,为可数名词。
take/have the medicine服药
medicine for+疾病 治……的药
Do you find my medicine? 你找到我的药了吗?
Take the medicine and you will be better. 服了这药,你会好点儿。
5. Stay home and have a good rest. 待在家里,好好休息。
(1) stay home 待在家里(此处home为副词)。“待在家里”还可表示为
stay at home,此处home为名词。
Because of the COVID-19, the people in some places must stay (at) home.
因为新冠肺炎,一些地方的人必须待在家里。
(2) rest
① n. 休息
have a (good) rest (好好) 休息
I’m very tired. I want to have a good rest. 我很累。我想好好休息一下。
② v. 休息;使休息
Let’s rest now. 咱们现在休息吧。
You’d better rest your hands. 你最好放松一下你的手。
