"You should get a cat," my therapist(治疗专家) said. "A cat?" I couldn't even look after myself... I took a deep breath and carefully considered the idea of welcoming a feline(猫科的) friend into my life. This seemed like too easy a fix for the fact that I couldn't leave the house without bursting into tears.
When my partner and I found Cinnamon, her adoption profile made her out as the perfect kitten. We filled out the paperwork and prepared for her arrival.
When she came home, it became increasingly obvious that Cinnamon didn't understand "no", "stop it" or "don't do that". She was the worst cat I've ever owned. I was beginning to doubt my therapist's advice.
After visiting our vet, she concluded that Cinnamon just wanted our attention. She fought tooth and nail to get a bite of our meals. She'd fearlessly lick sharp knives when left unattended for a split second. Cinnamon stole my heart with her bravery and kept me busier than I'd ever expected.
We decided to start taking her for walks. I could barely leave the house before, but my heart couldn't say no to Cinnamon. Cinnamon showed me what bravery looked like. She didn't stop to consider every possible outcome of a situation; she simply went for it. If there was a dog at a park, she would run toward it. She jumped without knowing where she would land. She loved adventure. I found myself mirroring her behavior after a while, jumping out of bed without a second thought. I began to find the motivation to get out of bed in the morning.
Cinnamon unfortunately passed away after a medical accident. I'm no stranger to sadness or grief, but losing my pet so suddenly was the most confusing emotional experience I've had to date. She no longer wakes me up at 5 am begging for breakfast, but she's still the reason I get up every morning.
Our time is often cut unpredictably, unmistakably short. It would be a shame to live life being anything less than brave and adventurous.

Studies have found they can raise our risk of obesity, heart problems, diabetes and cancer. They may even shorten our lives. Now, a new study has revealed eating more ultra-processed foods may contribute to overall cognitive decline, including the brain executive functioning-the ability to process information and make decisions.
“While in need of further study, the new results are quite compelling and emphasize the critical role for proper nutrition in preserving and promoting brain health and reducing risk for brain diseases,” said Tanzi, professor at Harvard Medical School. He was not involved in the study but he said in his book, “They, are, very high in sugar, salt and fat, promoting systemic inflammation, perhaps the most major threat to healthy aging. The study, presented at the 2022 Alzheimer's Association International Conference, followed over 10,000 Brazilians for 10 years. “In Brazil, ultra-processed foods make up 25% to 30% of total calorie intake. “People consuming over 20% of daily calories from processed foods had a 28% faster decline in global cognition and a 25% faster decline in executive functioning compared to people who. Not,” said study coauthor Natalia. Those in the study who ate the most ultra-processed foods were “more likely to be younger, women, White, had higher education and incomes, and were more likely to have never smoked,” the study found.

Adapting to technological advances is a defining part of the 21st-century life.Just two months after being launched in November 2022,OpenAI's ChatGPT has already reached an audience of over 100 million people. While ChatGPT threatens to change writing and writing-related work, the Mesopotamians, who lived 4,000 years ago in a geographical area centered in modern-day Iraq, went through this kind of far-reaching change before us.
Ancient Mesopotamia was home to many of civilization's early developments. Its people were world leaders in adapting to technological and cultural changes. They invented the wheel and agriculture, and pioneered advances in mathematics and urbanization. These breakthroughs are reflected in cuneiform(楔形文字)literature, one of the oldest known forms of writing.
In its literature,Mesopotamians don't present cultural and technological advances as consistently beneficial. They often represent new technologies being controlled in the service of human conflict and mostly serving the interests of those with high social positions. In some ways, the representation of new technologies in its literature echoes(映现)contemporary concerns about AI:fears of increasing social inequalities and its potential use in information war.
In recent years,AI-the newest form of writing-has been used to decipher(破译)the oldest: cuneiform literature. In broader fields, the boundaries of how AI may be used haven't been clearly explained. In January, for example,a top international AI conference banned the use of AI tools for writing scientific papers.
Humans have been struggling to invent, use and adapt to technology since our earliest civilizations. But the technology and resulting knowledgeare not always evenly distributed.
Knowing how we adapted to changing technology in the past helps us more fully understand the human condition and may even help us prepare for the future.
12、What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about concerning Mesopotamians?
A. Their adaptation to threats. B.Their influences on writing.

13、What can be inferred about technological advances from paragraph 3?
A.They prevent human conflict. B.They bring about hidden dangers.
C.They take away people's concerns. D.They lower people's social status.
14、What is the current situation of AI according to paragraph 4?
A.Its use in literature is popular.
C.Its range of application is undefined.
B.It is not allowed to finish papers.
D.It is not accepted in broader fields.
15、Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A.How People Can Use the Latest Technology
B.How ChatGPT Will Threaten Writing and Work
C.What AI Will Do by Learning Cuneiform Literature

②根据后文“For example, some consider a truly natural exercise experience requires that the individual wear clothing only made from natural fibers. Others consider barefoot running or walking with a big arena to be more desirable than running or walking with shoes.(例如,一些人认为,真正自然的运动体验要求人只穿天然纤维利成的衣服。其他人则认为赤脚跑步或在大型竞技场上行走,比穿着鞋子跑步或行走更可取。)”从两个方面举例说明了两种不同的绿色运动方式。因此空格处总结性说明不同的人,对于什么是真正的绿色运动观点不同。故选C。
③根据后文“Similarly, climbing a mountain using standard equipment and protective clothing would also be considered a green exercise.(同样,使用标准设备和防护服爬山也将被视为绿色运动。)”表明什么样的锻炼会被视为绿色运动,由“Similarly,”可知,空格处也是在介绍绿色运动的类型,而E项中“can be called a type of green exercise”与后文中的“also be considered a green exercise”结构一致,都是在介绍绿色运动的类型。故选E。
④根据前文“The interaction with nature helps to lower peoples' blood pressure, refresh their mind, and actually improve their self-esteem.(与大自然的互动有助于降低人们的血压,更新他们的思维,并实际上提高他们的自尊。)”介绍了绿色运动对于身体、头脑和心理健康的优点,而B项承接上文,接着说明了绿色运动在精神上的积极影响。故选B。
⑤根据上文“Not everyone believes that the green exercise is more beneficial than working out in a health club or gym.(并非所有人都认为绿色运动比在健身俱乐部或健身房锻炼更有益,)”可知,该段在介绍另一种观点,指出使用健身器材锻炼也有好处,以及“Meanwhile,...”后文说明使用健身器材有利于增强心肺功能。因此,空格处也是在讲述健身俱乐部或者健身房的优点,G项中的“many health clubs”与上文的“in a health club or gym”上下一致。故选G。

Dear Charlie,
How are you getting along? Occupied with College Entrance Examination Review, recently I have quarreled with my parents, which makes me very annoyed. I am writing to ask you for help.
You know, my parents don't allow me to go out and play with my friends at weekends. They think I should make full use of every minute to work on my lessons. However, I think I need to play with my friends so that I can relax myself after a week's hard work at school and it is a good way for me to keep in touch with my friends. I know it is wrong to quarrel with them, but I don't know what to do to persuade them to change their mind and develop a good relationship with them. Would you please offer me some advice?
I am looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
