Elliot Hallock is 5 years old, and she loves animals. She shares her home with dogs and cats in Boise, the capital city of the US state Idaho. When Idaho Humane Society (荷州动物保护协会) was short of pet foods, Elliot did everything she could to help.

A research project called Mineral has made robots work in the farmland. It wants to use robots to help farmers grow more food in ways that are healthy for the environment (环境).

The number of people in the world is getting bigger each year, so more and more food needs to be grown in order to feed everyone Some scientists say that to feed everyone, more food will need to be grown over the next 50 years than in the last 10,000 years. It's really difficult.

In the past, farmers tried hard to quickly grow more food. But they used ways that weren't always healthy for the environment. Now, the Mineral project has come and it is getting farms to make more in ways that are not bad for the environment.

Mineral's team spent some years talking to farmers to see what problems they were having and how to work out these problems. And the team made special robots, called “plant buggies", to get information (信息) about how plants are growing.

At first, the buggies were very simple. They were put on bikes and took pictures with cell phones. Later, they get better and better. Now the robots can take clear pictures of plants, find each plant's place and know the plant's size. They can even do things humans can't do, like counting (数数) all of the small buds (蓓蕾) on a plant. By getting lots of information like this, Mineral believes robots can help farmers grow plants more.

Yesterday I went to the park with my grandpa. It was very quite there. We took a walk and enjoyed the clean air. After a while, I felt a little tired so I ran quickly to a bench and wanted to have a rest. My grandpa told me not to but I didn't listen to him. After sitting on the bench, I found my pants were dirty with paint. Then my grandpa showed me the sign next to the beach "Wet Painted".
