A moving classroom
一间移动的教室
Jerilee Melo used to be a kindergarten teacher in California, US. After the kindergarten was closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, she lost her job.
One day, Jerilee saw an old school bus for sale on the Internet. An idea came to her mind, “Maybe I can teach on the bus.”
The lady bought the bus and began turning it into a “moving classroom”. About a month later, she taught her first class there. Many of her former students came to her. After a few months at home, they wanted to start learning again.
Of course, safety always comes first. Jerilee makes sure that she has no more than five students on the bus at a time. Besides, everyone must wear a mask during class.
Thanks to the “moving classroom”, the children were given the chance to have a more interesting learning experience. Jerilee took them to a bakery to learn how to make bread. They were also given a lesson about flowers at a beautiful flower shop. The students can truly learn from everyone in the community.
Isn't the way Jerilee reaches out to her students quite clever?“You can always expand and go beyond the classroom,” said the teacher. “Where there's a will, there's a way.”
