This grandmother may have a new life after a billionaire noticed her determination to help people in an area struck by a hurricane.
The woman, Plaxedes Dilon, is used to walking long distances around her home for work. The 70-year-old woman makes a living by selling clothes. She wakes up at four every morning and travels across the region to do her business. She had just returned to her home in Harare, Zimbabwe earlier this week when she heard about a hurricane on the radio.
The storm, which is currently regarded as one of the worst hurricanes to hit the Southern hemisphere（南半球）, blew through parts of Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi. Upon learning about the result of the storm, Dilon immediately filled a bag with kitchen supplies and clothes that she had intended to sell. She wanted to take them all to a disaster relief area. Because she did not have any money for a bus ticket, she walked for 10 miles and gave the supplies to a local church.
The church praised her good deed by posting a photo of her and her huge supply bag on social media. After it was shared by thousands of people, it finally caught the eye of Strive Masiyiwa. Throughout folktale, tales of shapeshifting creatures, from wolves to vampires, have often spread horror across a variety of cultures. But these physical transformations are not limited to the pages of fiction.
A review article suggests that climate change could be physically altering a variety of species across the planet, as individuals change their shape to suit the rising temperatures across the world. Features such as tails, legs and ears are changing to provide different levels of heat exchange with the environment. Warm-blooded animals tend to have longer ears, tails, and limbs if they live in warmer conditions, compared with similar animals in colder places. The long body parts provide a bigger skin surface that they can use to get rid of extra heat.
While the changes occur across a range of species, they're not universal across every animal considered. These adaptations may be beneficial in the short to medium term, but as the climate continues to change, animals can not continually adapt. At some point, thetrade-off won't be beneficial anymore, which could lead to population declines and even extinction. So, while a larger beak may be useful for species wanting to lose more heat, if it makes the beak more impractical for feeding then it may end up being more of a disadvantage for the birds. There are also a variety of other ways of controlling body temperature that don't require changes in body shape, such as behavioral changes like making use of shade and migrating at warmer times of year.
Of course, to some extent we already know what's needed to limit the emptiness of the future natural world. This includes reducing greenhouse gases; protecting biodiversity; restoring connectivity between habitats; and reducing interrelated threats like pollution and land harvesting. Even species that are close to extinction can be brought back from the edge with enough conservation effort.

A kind of far-fetched clay speakers might sound novel to you, yet nowadays music speakers made from clay have appeared on the market.
The makers of such speakers are from a German start-up called Mapu. They say the produet is around 80 perent biodegradable （可生物降解的）. That's not necessarily what most people look for in a set of speakers, but it's a commendable feature at this time when electronic waste is piling up around the world.
The speakers are now often noticed due to their eco-friendly side, but those behind them did not set out to achieve that at first. The main inspiration was to keep traditional crafts alive in regions where they were disappearing, especially in rural Chile, where Pablo Ocqueteau, a co-founder of Mapu, was born. He, together with his partner Philine von Agnes, had been wondering how to help bring traditional Chilean crafts into the modern world. Finally. they decided to make a speaker out of a traditional Chilean water jug found in most Chilean households.
Craftsmen in Nacimiento once renowned for pottery（陶艺） but struggling to keep the art alive were only too happy to help the pair. After the first design of the speaker was made, Ocqueteau and Agnes talked with a professional engineer in Germany, who later proved the adapted clay jug had great potential as a speaker. Then the two cooperated with Sound Hub Denmark, whose engineers made slight changes to the speaker's design. Since then, potters in Nacimiento have created small groups of clay speakers. According to Duszeln, Mapu typically pays craftsmen an above average fee for their work, and it has also funded tree-planting projects through ProNativo, an environmental organization, as well as a project to feed communities in Santiago during the first lockdown caused by the COVTID-19 pandemic.

A review article suggests that climate change could be physically altering a variety of species across the planet, as individuals change their shape to suit the rising temperatures across the world. Features such as tails, legs and ears are changing to provide different levels of heat exchange with the environment. Warm-blooded animals tend to have longer ears, tails, and limbs if they live in warmer conditions, compared with similar animals in colder places. The long body parts provide a bigger skin surface that they can use to get rid of extra heat.
While the changes occur across a range of species, they're not universal across every animal considered. These adaptations may be beneficial in the short to medium term, but as the climate continues to change, animals can not continually adapt. At some point, thetrade-off won't be beneficial anymore, which could lead to population declines and even extinction. So, while a larger beak may be useful for species wanting to lose more heat, if it makes the beak more impractical for feeding then it may end up being more of a disadvantage for the birds.
