While tea may have originated in Asia, now there are many countries all around the world that have tea woven into their food culture and traditions. Chinese tea culture
Since China is viewed as the birthplace of tea, it is no wonder that Chinese tea culture is rich with history

I had my first luck when my uncle was visiting from Britain. We were talking about my plans for further study. I was interested in biology research, but there weren't many opportunities in Slovenia. Surprisingly, my uncle encouraged me to try international studies, and even offered me my cousin's room. It was the lucky break I needed. Later. I applied for a university near my uncle's. When I was accepted, I felt excited. I was also stressed about studying abroad and the cost. To save up, I got a part-time job, through which I could only cover one-third of the expense. Luckily, a prize from school contributed the rest.
Once I reached Britain, between culture shock and my university program. I worked part-time. By
working and reducing unnecessary costs. I could support myself, share the household expenses with my uncle's family, and save for my education.
I made little progress in the lab after five months. One evening. I mistakenly removed all the useful
experiment data. I broke into tears, and spent the whole night playing video games-a much-needed break after months of non-stop work. But I didn't give up. Two weeks later, my project began to produce results.
After being rejected several times in full-time job hunting. I had a chance to meet with Professor Brown.
I hardly remembered from two lectures he had given. I was analyzing my data when he mentioned he was looking for an assistant and encouraged me to apply. I didn't think I stood a chance, but I figured I had nothing to lose. To my surprise, the professor who valued my efforts and ability offered me the job. I went on to complete my study, and I was excited about the research opportunities that were available to me.

Birds that migrate long distances tend to be more likely than others to break up with their partners, according to an analysis of 232 species conducted by Sun Yat-sen University.
About 90 per cent of bird species are socially monogamous (一夫一妻制的), which means once they
form pairs, they will stay together for life. However, some do end up getting “divorced” and move onto new partners.
To identify reasons that lead to bird break ups, Liu Yang at Sun Yat-sen University in China and his
colleagues studied 232 species in one of the world’s largest bird databases, Birds of the World. They found that species that migrate particularly long distances to obtain food typically have higher rates of breaking up.
Great blue herons, for example, migrate more than 3000 kilometres and have a divorce rate of 100 per
cent. This may be because travelling further makes it harder for a pair to return home at the same time, says Liu Yang. “If you’re the one who gets back first, it’s risky waiting for your partner because you don’t know if it’ll show up — it may have died or been blown off course,” Liu adds. Finding a new partner may seem a safer bet even if it requires energy to please a new mate, he says.
Liu and his team members acknowledge that it makes sense for birds with long migrations to have higher
divorce rates, but there are exceptions.
    3
Black-tailed godwits, for example, migrate more than 1000 kilometres from Iceland to the UK or southwest Europe each year but have relatively low divorce rates. This seems to be due to a super ability to keep pace with their partners. Although members of a pair will follow separate migration paths and typically end up more than 900 kilometres away from each other, they are somehow able to return to Iceland at almost the same time, which reduces the risk of break-ups. “But most birds are not able to do that — it’s pretty amazing.” Liu concludes.
    28. What can be inferred from Paragraph 2?
    A. Most bird species have more than one partner for life.
    B. Few bird species are devoted to their partners.
    C. Most bird species have higher rates of breaking up.
    D. Most bird species tend to have only one partner.
    29. Why do great blue herons have a divorce rate of 100 per cent?
    A. Because the bird pairs choose different migration routes.
    B. Because they get tired of their partners.
    C. Because they are impatient with waiting.
    D. Because it is safer for them to move onto a new partner.
    30. What can we learn about black-tailed godwits in the last paragraph?
    A. They have a higher divorce rate than great blue herons.
    B. The nearly same returning time reduces the risk of their divorce.
    C. It is typical of them to migrate at the same speed with their partners.
    D. They set a good example of romance for other birds.
    31. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
    A. Migration Linked to Bird Divorce B. Reasons for Bird Migration
    C. Bird Migration with Long Distances D. Birds — with High Rates of Divorce.
    D
Did you watch the popular TV series Meet Yourself (《去有风的地方》) during your winter vacation? In
the TV series, the heroine Xu Hongdou travels to a village in Yunnan province and volunteers at a local cafe. She gets free meals in return. As the show finds a growing audience, volunteer travel — an old-yet-modern form of travel similar to Xu’s type of work — has attracted more attention.
Volunteer travel refers to taking a trip where all or part of the purpose of the trip is to participate in an
    4
arranged service opportunity to help others, according to Wise Tour, an online provider of tourist information. It seems as if these long journeys could only be made possible in recent years by modern transportation. Nevertheless, volunteer travel dates back to the 1960s, when Alec Dickson and his wife Mora from the UK
founded Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), an international volunteer organization.
Traditionally, the volunteer activities take place in a foreign country. However, just as what Meet Yourself
depicts, more volunteer trips have taken place within the same countries or regions the volunteers originate from in recent years. Sanlian Lifeweek magazine commented that volunteer projects in rural areas are now attracting more urban visitors as a break from the fast and stressful pace of urban living. Yang Yan, a founder of a volunteer platform, told the magazine that it has indeed been a growing trend for urban residents to volunteer in rural areas.
People try volunteer travel for several reasons. By working voluntarily while traveling, travelers may
make a real, positive impact on the world. The services volunteers provide can be through charities with lower costs for the communities they serve. Another benefit of volunteer travel is that it helps urban dwellers (居民) to get a taste of rural life. For those who are sick of urban pressure but can’t make up their minds whether to
move permanently to the countryside, volunteer travel can be a solution.
32 Why does the author mention Meet Yourself in the beginning of the article?
    A. To introduce a new way of travel. B. To raise readers’ interest in the TV series.
    C. To lead up to the topic — volunteer travel. D. To show the popularity of this TV series.
    33. What does the article tell us about volunteer travel?
    A. It dates back to the 19th century in the UK.
B Travelers can earn money on their trips.
    C. It requires travelers to be highly educated.
    D. It combines travel with meaningful work to help others.
    34. What does the underlined word “depicts” mean in the fourth paragraph?
    A. describes B. advocates C. generalizes D. comments
    35. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
    A. A new trend of volunteer trips. B. Different reasons for volunteer trips.
    C. The significance of volunteer trips. D. The current development of volunteer trips.

Rick, a ten-year-old boy, was constantly angry at everything around him. He always fought in school with
the other kids. Once he had an outburst in school. Upset by something a classmate said to him, he pushed the boy, and a fight happened. When the teacher stepped in to break it up, Rick went crazy, throwing papers and books around the classroom and rushing out. His teachers couldn’t say anything that would comfort the kid. And the parents of his schoolmates were getting concerned. Rick was earning quite the reputation. After talking with school officials, Rick’s mom tried everything she could to calm Rick down.
She tried different methods until one day she came home with a canvas (画布) and paint. “What’s this?”,
Rick asked. Rick’s mom handed over the painting equipment and said, “Whenever you feel angry, paint
whatever you’re angry about instead of bursting out.” Rick wasn’t that happy about it but he gave it a try anyway. Over the next few weeks, the young boy created several artworks. They mostly showed disturbing images though. So his mom took all of the paintings and called Rick over so that they could talk about them. “Tell me, Rick. What are these paintings about?”
“Well, the first painting is about how some of the kids show off their new clothes and pencil cases. The
next painting is about my teacher who keeps telling me about how I’m doing things wrong. And the last painting is about how one of my schoolmate’s father suggested that I change my attitude. All of them make me so angry.” Rick’s mom, in a calm voice, took Rick by her side and told him: “Don’t you see it, Rick?” “See what?” Rick asked. “You’re so angry at all of these things but not once did you try to understand why you’re
getting so angry. What have all these people done to you, really?”

As the show finds a growing audience, volunteer travel — an old-yet-modern form of travel similar to Xu’s type of work — has attracted more attention.(寒假期间你看了热门电视剧《去有风的地方》吗?
根据第二段“Volunteer travel refers to taking a trip where all or part of the purpose of the trip is to participate in an arranged service opportunity to help others, according to Wise Tour, an online provider of tourist information.(据在线旅游信息提供商Wise Tour介绍,义工旅行是指旅行的全部或部分目的是参加安排好的服务机会,以帮助他人的旅行)”可知,义工旅行是集旅行与公益为一体的有意义的旅行。故选D。
    34. 词句猜测题。根据画线词下文“more volunteer trips have taken place within the same countries or regions the volunteers originate from in recent years(越来越多的义工旅行发生在旅行者自身的国家或地区)”可知,下文讲述的是电视剧《去有风的地方》里的内容,故画线词depict意思为“描述、描绘”。故选A。
    35. 主旨大意题。根据最后一段“People try volunteer travel for several reasons. By working voluntarily while traveling, travelers may make a real, positive impact on the world. The services volunteers provide can be through charities with lower costs for the communities they serve. Another benefit of volunteer travel is that it helps urban dwellers (居民) to get a taste of rural life. For those who are sick of urban pressure but can’t make up their minds whether to move permanently to the countryside, volunteer travel can be a solution. (人们尝试义工旅行有几个原因。通过在旅行中自愿工作,旅行者可能会对世界产生真正的、积极的影响。志愿者提供的服务可以通过慈善机构为他们服务的社区提供更低的成本。义工旅行的另一个好处是它帮助城市居民体验农村生活。对于那些厌倦了城市压力,但又无法决定是否永久迁往农村的人来说,义工旅行可能是一个解决方案)”可知,最后一段围绕人们为什么进行义工旅行展开。故选B。

Rick was lost in thought. It slowly dawned on him that people he was angry at had done nothing wrong. His classmates who showed their new clothes and pencil cases to others might just want to share their happiness with friends. His teacher did blame him because he was being a problem. And his schoolmate’s father was just trying to help him correct his mistakes. They had no intention to hurt him but he just let his unreasonable anger consume him and hurt them. How ridiculous he had been!
Rick knew it was time to change. From then on, Rick tried his best to control his temper. Every time he felt he was to explode, he would walk away and ask himself why he was angry and whether it was reasonable to be angry. Then he would find his peace and laughed his anger away. Gradually, everyone saw a different Rick. He no longer shouted at others or threw things away. He chatted with classmates after class and complimented their new clothes and pencil cases. He even helped teachers carry books before class sometimes. Rick’s change surprised everyone and they all felt happy for him.

    【详解】1. 段落续写:
