As for long-distance holidays, there are some wonderful destinations that actually offer you great value for your money, especially for those who do not hope to empty their pockets after a holiday.

Do you still remember what happened on your first day of school? I still remember my first day of school. On that day, I hurried to my science class in the morning and found a seat in the back. I waited there for 15 minutes before the bell rang. The science teacher told us about some class rules. No one talked to me nor did I talk to anyone else. I was one of those very shy girls. After the science class, I had an English class. I thought it would be boring but it turned out to be very funny. When the classes of the morning ended, I went to lunch. I sat outside the dining room with no one to talk to and no food because I was too nervous to join the lunch line. I kept looking around hoping to see someone I knew but I never saw anyone.
Lunch ended and I went to have my art class. I was the first one there and not even my teacher was there yet. So I sat at my desk and started drawing some pictures. I didn’t notice the rest of the class walking in or the girl that was standing behind me till I was surprised by the voice, “So what are you drawing?” It was a girl who had really long hair. She ended up being my best friend and one of the kindest and liveliest girls I know.
In the next class meeting, the teacher asked us to talk about the past holiday. I was glad to make some new friends in the class. The first day of high school was hard for me but I got through it.

Sun Rui, a mother in Beijing, changed some of her plans for her 8-year-old son’s summer vacation. She had looked for an out-of-school English course, but in the end, she changed it to a swimming training class. “It is because of the strict rules on subject-tutoring classes out of schools, many parents like me choose sports or other classes for developing interests instead,” Sun said.
Sun’s choice is part of the result of the government’s growing efforts to reduce the academic pressure on young students.
On July 24, Chinese government introduced the rules in order to reduce the burden of homework and after-class tutoring for primary and junior high school students. It lists requirements in areas such as reducing the amount and the difficulty of homework and after-class services provided by schools. For example, homework  for primary children below the third grade is not allowed, while homework for junior high school students should take no longer than 90 minutes to finish. Out-of-school classes cannot teach students knowledge that is ahead of the school curriculum. No subject lessons can be given on weekends, national holidays or during winter and summer vacations.
According to Global Times, more than 75 percent of Chinese children in cities, from grade 1 to grade 12, take part in out-of-school subject classes. This has led to many social problems such as students’ falling levels of physical fitness, more mental health problems and huge family costs, said Chu Zhaohui, a senior researcher with the National Institute of Education Sciences.
Many parents showed their support for the new moves. “Subject learning is enough at school and we hope the children’s life can be more relaxing during holidays”, a parent in Guangzhou told Xinhua. However, there are also some parents who have new fears. A parent in Shanxi said that although she agreed with the new rules, she was worried that both she and her husband had no time to be with her son.
8.The reason why Sun Rui let her son sign up for a swimming class instead of an English course is that_________.

11.What are parents’ reaction to the new rules?

Rolling hills and endless green grasslands – those pictures often appear in our mind when we think of the country lifestyle. When outdoor activities were limited in many countries across the world during the pandemic (疫病), social media(媒体) seemed to be filled by pictures of village life. So, why is living in the countryside becoming increasingly popular – and is it really good to consider a slower life?
It is understandable that some people would want to give up the crowded and noisy city streets for the traditional country life – especially during a period like a pandemic. Having more time to stay indoors and the periods of working from home get people to think about what they want from life. But it's not just about having a greener place to look at out of your window.
It has been proved that living in the countryside does good to you. There's less air pollution in the countryside, which reduces the possibility of developing some diseases for breathing the polluted air. You also get more chances to take long walks and see the beautiful countryside, meaning you can get more exercise. Less noise, more walks and better air can also lead to less stress and a longer life, according to studies done by the British government in 2012.
However, there are some things that need to be considered. Living far from the city means that some people may feel lonely. And as people get older, life far from doctors or public transport could become a bit of a challenge. So, if you're considering a change of life and moving to a picturesque village, there are both advantages and disadvantages to consider before taking action.
12.What did people like to share in their social media during the pandemic?
A.Pictures of life in the countryside. B.Pictures of their outdoor activities.
C.Pictures of life in cities. D.Pictures of working at home.
13.The writer lists the advantages of living in the countryside EXCEPT_________.
A.fresher air B.more chances of exercise
C.working at home. D.beautiful countryside views
14.According to the study in 2012, who will live a healthier and longer life?
A.A man who lives near a noisy factory.
B.A man who lives a busy life with no time to exercise.
C.A man who lives in a heavily polluted city.
D.A man who lives in a peaceful village, jogging every morning.
15.From the last paragraph, we can infer that_________.
A.living in the countryside is good for many old people.
B.people should think twice before moving to the countryside.
C.people feel lonely in cities so they want to move to the countryside.
D.there are more advantages than disadvantages in moving to the countryside.

How to stay focused in class
Being relaxed during class is a bad habit, and it is also bad to your grade. Focusing in class not only proves to teachers that you are a capable student but also shows that you have the ability to control yourself, which will be very important.
16 No matter how much you want to sit with your friends during the class, try your best to avoid them. Talking with friends around you is not going to give you the focus in class. This will get you into trouble.
Look at teacher and make eye contact. Your teacher is not just standing up there talking. 17 Show the teacher that he or she has your full attention by looking them in the eye. This person should have your full attention at all times during class.
Take notes. By taking notes, you'll be able to "get into" the lesson. Write down key points as your teacher speaks. And listen to the key phrases such as "This is  important" "This is the main idea" "This will be the test" etc. 18
Get involved in class discussions. This is a wonderful way to become a more focused, successful student. When a teacher asks a question, offer to answer it. 19 This shows the teacher that you are listening carefully during the class.
Ask a question. 20 This really shows your teacher that you want to be better, and can recognize the things you are having difficulty with. Chances are that someone else in the class has the same question (and was too afraid to ask!). They'll be relieved, and so will you.
    A.Avoid sitting with friends.
B.This can help you listen more attentively.
C.If he or she ask for an opinion, share your own.
D.Talking with friends makes you lose interest in class.
E.He or she is trying to give you an acceptable education.
F.The more quickly you answer, the more attention you pay.
G.If you don't understand something, never be afraid to ask.

So they hired a reliable woman called Mary to care for their children and made the trip.
Days later, they returned home a little earlier than they had planned.
As they drove into their town feeling glad to be back, they noticed smoke, so they went off their usual route to see what it was. They found a house in flames. Alice said. “Oh, well, it isn’t our fire. Let’s go home.”
But Peter drove closer and screamed in surprise. “That house belongs to Fred Jones who works in the same company with me. He wouldn’t be off work yet, maybe there is something we can do.”
“It has nothing to do with us,” protested (抗议) Alice. “You have your good clothes on. Let’s not get any closer.”
But Peter drove up and stopped. They were both shocked to see the whole house in flames. A woman on the lawn was in hysterics screaming, “The children! Get the children!”
Peter seized her by the shoulder, saying, “Get a hold of yourself and tell us where the children are!”
“In the basement,” sobbed the woman, “down the hall and to the left.”
In spite of Alice’s protests, Peter turned on a tap, used the water to wet his clothes, put his wet handkerchief on his head and dashed into the basement which was full of smoke.
He got to the door and found two children. Holding one under each arm. Peter headed outside. As he left, he could hear some more whimpering (呜咽声). He delivered the two badly frightened children into his arms and started back asking how many more children were down there.

A. won赢,取胜;B. made制作;C. brought带来;D. lost失去。 故选A项。
A. question问题;B. permission允许;C. help帮助;D. reason原因。
A. delighted愉快的;B. amazed惊讶的;C. puzzled困惑的;D. disappointed失望的。
A. mental精神的;B. social社会的;C. physical生理的;D. technical技术的。
A. compares比较;B. matches匹配;C. confuses使困惑;D. combines结合。
A. handed递交;B. bought购买;C. sold卖出;D. sent发送。 故选A项。
A. honors荣耀;B. stories故事;C. regrets后悔;D. memories记忆。
A. difficult困难的;B. great巨大的;C. soft柔软的;D. dangerous危险的。
A. left离开;B. taught教育;C. joined加入;D. missed思念,错过。
A. interest兴趣;B. pressure压力;C. support支持;D. rescue救援。
A. take up占据;B. take away拿走;C. put off推迟,拖延;D. put out熄灭。
A. Therefore因此;B. However然而。
A. chance机会;B. hope希望;C. lesson课程;D. dream梦想。 故选A项。

look forward to doing sth期待做某事,to是介词,后面用动名词作宾语,故填seeing。

    47.One possible version:
    Paragraph 1:
The woman told him there were two more. Knowing that Peter was ready to dash into the basement again, Alice screamed, “Peter! Don't go back! It's dangerous!” However, Peter went back to the basement by feeling his way down the smoke and into the room. It was after what seemed like a century that he finally found both children and started back.
    Paragraph 2:
At that moment, Peter seemed to feel something familiar in his arms. As he climbed up the endless steps, the feeling became much stronger. Considering they would be trapped in the fire, Peter made all his efforts to get out. Fortunately, Peter was finally safe with the two children. To his great surprise, the children he had just rescued were his own kids. Realizing what had happened, Alice ran to them in tears and the whole family hugged together. It turned out later that Mary asked the woman to look after the two kids while she was shopping.
