With the growing popularity of online shopping, many people are addicted to it. It’s true that online shopping has its advantages, making shopping a convenient and pleasant experience, and saving our time that would otherwise be spent in stores. It is predicted that physical stores will be replaced by online stores.
But in my opinion, it would be another matter. For one thing, we can’t afford the time spent searching online for what we need. Meanwhile, it would be unwise if we spend too much time shopping online, when we should be devoted to our studies or socialize with people around us.
In a word, while online shopping can be a way for us to accumulate some social experience, we can’t play it so far as to affect our studies.

(镇江模拟)Albert was mad about computer games. He could spend hours and hours in front of the screen, and even though his parents found it hard to believe, he really enjoyed every minute of it.He hardly left his seat. When people encouraged him to get involved with normal life, he would respond: “This is my doorway to the world, there is much more here than you realize.”
Among all his games there was one he especially liked. In it he would move a character around, collecting turtles(乌龟)on an infinity(无限)of levels and screens. He was a real expert at it.Maybe there was no one else in the world who had collected as many turtles as he had, but, nevertheless, Albert still wanted more and more and more...
One day, when he got home from school, everything had changed. As usual, as soon as he arrived, he ran to his room to switch the computer on.But this time he heard some strange noises, like breaking glass.Suddenly the screen broke, and from inside came dozens, then hundreds, then thousands of little turtles. And they filled every square inch of his bedroom.Albert was astonished. He couldn’t believe what was happening. But after pinching(掐)himself, he shut down and started the computer up many times, and called to his parents to see if he was dreaming about this.As it happens, he had to accept that on that day something very strange was happening.
On entering, his parents put their heads in their hands.Seeing that the turtles were staying in Albert’s room, they decided to make them his responsibility.

Looking after thousands of turtles, day after day, was no easy task.Every day after school, Albert would rush to the turtle tank and make sure every one of them was properly fed and carefully attended.Sometimes, a few naughty little ones would creep out and leave their droppings here and there, which meant extra cleaning and taming from Albert’s side.He was, to some extent, a feeder, tamer, guardian and mentor for the big turtle family. When all these responsibilities weighed down heavily on Albert’s feeble shoulder, he could no longer squeeze time on games, which he had held dear for life.
When Albert forgot about his beloved computer games, the turtles disappeared.Almost overnight, Albert regained his liberty, which meant he could immediately re-plunge into the colorful virtual world. However, this time, the Internet lost all its charm and Albert just wouldn’t open the monitor.Instead, he kept reminiscing about the good old days with the turtle tribe and claimed taking care of real turtles was the best days ever in his life.Obviously, this unforgettable experience taught Albert an invaluable lesson: real life exists in reality, not online.

(武汉模拟)I grew up in a large family of twelve siblings(兄弟姐妹).We weren’t poor by most standards, but things were definitely tight for us. My parents never shared their financial worries. Instead, they chose to let us have a carefree childhood. But despite their consideration, I knew, as children often do, that there were times they went without and that certain things my friends had wouldn’t be available to me.
Back in those days, hot lunch was a luxury for the wealthier kids, and hot-lunch buyers sat separately from the students who brought cold lunch. My siblings and I brought lunch from home every day: thick slices of homemade bread hiding one scant slice of bologna, three oatmeal cookies, and a small apple. We would look on longingly as the rich kids proudly sat down with their steaming plates of fried chicken or fish sticks and potato puffs, cartons of cold milk, chilled peaches and a slice of cake.
I never said anything, but my first grade teacher, Mrs Caruso, must have seen the desire in my eyes. One day she quietly pressed a note into my hand and whispered, “Give this to your mother.”
I skipped home and gave my mom the note. She read it and smiled. “Well, Mrs Caruso said because of all your hard work, she wants to buy your lunch tomorrow.” The next day, I proudly carried my tray of chicken fricassee across the cafeteria and took my seat at the hot-lunch table. Honestly, the food wasn’t as great as I had imagined, but I was pleased to be there and felt honored to be a part of the group.
One rainy day, Mrs Caruso asked me to stay after school. My stomach instantly dropped to the floor. Surely, I must be in trouble! Did she know I hadn’t finished my math sheet? Did she see me teasing Billy on the playground?

After the other students had left, Mrs Caruso said she was going to finish her work and then drive me home. It was raining, and she knew I had a long walk. We pulled up at my house and she got out, taking out a few bags on the porch. “Tell your mom I had a few extra things she might want,” she said then she drove away. Inside the bags were clothes, toys, and books. That summer, Mrs Caruso invited us all to her home. She gave us lemonade and sugar cookies, and we were amazed at the fancy fruits in her backyard.
I don’t know why Mrs Caruso helped my family. Maybe she also grew up in a family that struggled. Maybe she knew what it was like to feel just a little less than everyone else. Somehow, even with her quiet charity, she never made me feel ashamed. She just made me feel loved and important. Thanks to her, I learned that I had just as much night as anyone to sit at the hot-lunch table. I don’t remember what Mrs Caruso looked like anymore, but I do remember how she made me feel. I’ve never lost that feeling of being important to someone and being protected by her. After all these years, I’m still grateful to that wonderful teacher.

In July of 2021, Julia, a curious 5-year-old little girl, followed her dad into the unforgiving and dangerous Siberian wilderness near their home located in the remote region of the Sakha Republic.
At first, Julia's mother May believed Julia had gone with her father to visit her grandma. Unfortunately, the area they lived in was so remote that it did not have cell phone service, so she could not call her husband to confirm. It was only after her husband returned two days later that they realized Julia had made her way into the thick forest unnoticed and became lost.
Panicked and concerned, Julia's family instantly called for help. It wasn't long before hundreds of people showed up to seek the girl. Rescue workers, police, firefighters, and volunteers searched like crazy for the girl. They also got the aid of six search dogs, and a helicopter with technology to look for Julia in the dark but with no luck after a day's search.
Julia's family feared the worst, primarily since the area was well known for wild animals such as wolves and bears. Not to mention the fact that it was Siberia, which meant it got bitterly cold at night. Many of the rescuers were forced to face the reality that the girl was most likely dead. They knew a small child wouldn't last long out in the cold with little to protect her.
Early in the next morning, the police officer David who was in charge of the search hurried to Julia's house to ask May for more details. It suddenly occurred to May that a neighborhood dog, which Julia named Nadia, would probably follow her into the forest.
"Julia spares her food and feeds Nadia every day and gradually Julia has developed a close bond with the wandering dog. They are attached to each other and always inseparable. They must be together now, aren't they?" May looked into David's eyes and asked eagerly.

8.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Nike was a wheel dog who was directly in front of the sled (雪橇) and take most of the force. Whether little Nike had been named after the athletic shoe or the Greek goddess of victory, I would never know. He came into my life due to an injury in one of his legs which prevented him from making the team for the Trail Sled Dog Race.
My lifelong dream was to become a mountain man. So this winter, my wife Cheryl and I headed into the mountains with supplies to live for five months. In January, we had begun pushing east toward an untraveled area of the Yukon River. The trapping prospects there looked promising. We returned to our main cabin and made plans for me to use Cheryl’s dogs, hooking (钩) them together to form a large team. The idea was to bring supplies several miles down the river and establish a permanent camp.
That meant I’d be traveling alone and driving a sled loaded with around 300 pounds of goods, which meant extra hard work for my wheeler, Nike. The first serious challenge in our trip came where the path went down a steep valley that led to the river. As we started down, I stood on the brake with all of my weight in an attempt to keep balance. But the heavy sled began overtaking the dogs, and they picked up their pace to stay ahead of it. The sled became faster and faster until we came to a sharp turn at the bottom of the hill.
Eventually, the dogs got entangled (缠结) with each other and the sled got stuck in a crack in the river ice. I emerged from a large snowdrift and assessed the damage. I expected to find my dogs and a broken sled. But the sled was fine, and the dogs had jumped over each other, freeing themselves from the tangled ropes. Nike emerged from’ the snow, shook himself off, looked at me with encouraging eyes and made me smile.

Now I have to save myself from the icy river.

9.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Kelsey Gilland and her husband were shopping at PetSmart, looking for a company for one of their dogs, and decided to go and see if they had any adoptable cats that day. The past few times the couple had been to PetSmart hadn’t been any, but that day they were delighted to see two adorable cats hanging out. They were only going to look — but their dog Paisleigh had other plans.
As soon as Paisleigh saw one of the cats, Oliver, she was completely fascinated with him. The instant best friends interacted through the glass and seemed to have a special connection right off the bat.
“When I saw the way they reacted together my husband looked at me and said, ‘Babe, it’s an orange cat, isn’t that what you’ve been wanting?’ Everything in me said, ‘YES! Please, let’s take him home!’”
Gilland was worried about how Oliver would fit in with the family’s two other cats, though, and so the couple left PetSmart without Oliver, much to Paisleigh’s dismay.
That night, Gilland couldn’t stop thinking about Oliver. The way he and Paisleigh connected had been such magic, and she began to think that maybe he was meant to be a part of their family.
“I thought about that sweet kitty all night long and when I woke … I wanted to go back to PetSmart to see if he was still there,” Gilland said. “My husband was all for it. We got dressed and went to PetSmart, we took our own cage because we knew we were bringing him home if he was still there.”
Luckily, Oliver was still there and available for adoption. Due to COVID-19, the couple wasn’t able to do a meet and greet with Oliver before adopting him, but they decided it didn’t matter. They went with Paisleigh’s instincts and took him home.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;

10.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My writing career began quite accidentally. It was all because of my friend Henry.
Born into a poor family, Henry had no chance to attend school. He couldn’t read but he liked my reading for him greatly. One day I played a little trick on Henry. I was reading him a story from my textbook. Suddenly I moved away from the story and made up my own, pretending to turn pages regularly. Henry, of course, had no idea at all. Upon finishing the story, Henry began to clap.
“That was the best story you’ve read me in a long time,” he said, still clapping.
I laughed. “Really?”
“It was great. Will you read me more of it tomorrow?”
“Fascinating,” I thought, feeling like a man who discovered a buried treasure in his own backyard. That same night, I tried writing my first short story. It was a story about a man who found a magic cup. If he cried into the cup, his tears turned into pearls (珍珠), but he was a happy man and rarely cried. So he managed to find ways to make himself sad. The story ended with the man sitting on a mountain of pearls, unable to feel happy any longer.
The next day, I ran to Henry after school, asking him to hear the story and told him I wrote it last night. Henry was totally absorbed in it, his face shifting as the story developed.
“Some day, you will be a great writer,” Henry said. “And your stories will be read all over the world. But can I ask a question? Why didn’t the man just eat some onions to make himself cry to get pearls?” I was shocked because I never expected Henry could be helpful to my writing. I rewrote it and with Henry’s encouragement, I sent it to a magazine. To my surprise, it was published and sold well.

Whenever I finished a new story, I would turn to Henry.

Lungs nearly bursting, I struggled to lift my head out of the water. Inch by inch, my tired body reached for the end of the pool.
Earlier that week, I had turned in my first job application at a local pool. Overqualified, I was hired on the spot. However, the tasks were boring: helping confused visitors and measuring the height of children before they went down the slide, those sorts of things. I was competent for more.
So a swim test was required, establishing the mere fact that I was not completely helpless in a pool. Midway through, the manager administering the test remarked. “This looks really easy for you. Why aren’t you applying to become a guard? ”
“The thought hadn’t crossed my mind.”
“Well, lifeguarding demands more responsibility, strength and respect. Thus the position pays $2 more per hour. Your swimming skills are strong enough. All you need to do is complete a certification class. ”Inside I was unsure of myself, but his words inspired me — You never know what you are competent to do until you force yourself to do it. Soon I passed the swim test. All left was to practice and learn first aid, CPR (心肺复苏), and procedures for different land and water-based emergencies.
Work started soon. Days, weeks, and months went by without incident; emergencies were rare. The skills and training I had so carefully studied and attained seemed unnecessary.
Today appeared to be another uneventful (平静无事) day. However, shortly after the other guards signaled to the children to exit the pool, I noticed one boy was still in the middle while the others had climbed up.

Back in the early 1980s, the idea of home computers was catching on. I wasn't keen on getting one. Somehow, I evolved and have owned several computers over the years. Some days, I loved my computer, but more often than not, I hated it. I didn't grow up with them, and they were a challenge to my mental health. Dealing with modern technology was my introduction to stress, and I know who to blame: my children.
They weren't satisfied that their dad and I finally bought a computer and learned to send e-mails. We were quite happy with that, but next came a cellphone. Then just talking on the phone was not acceptable; they insisted we learn to text as well. We couldn't get a break.
I remember well the night that Facebook became a household word around here. Those kids of ours were determined to set up a joint account for us. It took some convincing. We felt no guilt for grating on (激怒) their nerves considering the drama they'd sometimes created for us during their teenage years. A little payback wouldn't hurt those two.
More recently, my husband and I were forced into getting rid of our flip phones and getting smartphones. I will admit that I progressed into appreciating mine. I liked speaking to Siri and finding out what I needed to know in an instant. I enjoyed having Internet access everywhere I went. I felt a sense of accomplishment; my husband-not so much. To this day, he would happily take back his flip phone.
Last Christmas, our children surprised us with yet another popular form of technology-Alexa. The girls took our smartphones in hand and got us programmed. Before we fully understood what was happening, we could tell Alexa to turn our lamp on or off, and she would. To be honest, we were a bit annoyed at having to learn how to use yet another device, but we decided to keep it. We mastered turning the lamp on and off, and once again I got the hang of it sooner than my husband did. I became his Alexa coach.

One night, Alexa did not turn on the lamp when I gave the command.
