Actors Keira Knightley and Kristen Bell have both commented on their worries about using Disney princesses as role models for their children.
On a famous talk show, Knightley said her daughter (who was born in 2015) was “banned” from watching Cinderella, which Disney produced as a cartoon in 1950 and a live-action film in 2015. “Cinderella waits around for a rich guy to rescue her. Don’t. Rescue yourself! Obviously.”
Knightley added that she had also forbidden The Little Mermaid, the 1989 cartoon. “This is the one that I’m quite annoyed about because I really like the film. I mean, the songs are great, but do not give up your voice for a man. Well, that’s a little difficult to handle, but I’m keeping to it.”
Bell, the star of Frozen, expressed her disapproval of the Snow White fairy tale, which became a classic Disney cartoon in 1938. In an interview with parents, Bell said: “I look at my girls and ask, ‘Don’t you think it’s very unusual that Snow White didn’t ask the old witch why she needed to eat the apple? Or where she got that apple?’ I say, ‘I would never take food from a stranger, would you?’ And my kids respond, ‘No!’ And I think I’m doing something right.”
Bell, who played a Disney princess in Frozen, said she also used the story to illustrate issues about permission. She says that she asked her children: “Don’t you think that it’s very strange that the prince kisses Snow White without her permission? … Because you cannot kiss someone if they’re sleeping!”
Bell later responded to criticism on social media. To one user she wrote: “Everything is a message to our children, because they are sponges(海绵) that soak up everything and are learning how to be adults through what they see. I want my girls to see and practice critical thinking and respectful behavior.”
4、Why did Knightley stop her daughter from watching The Little Mermaid?
    A. Because Knightley disliked it.
    B. Because the little mermaid was tricky.
    C. Because the film showed wrong values.
    D. Because the songs in the film were annoying.
5、What can we infer about Bell from Paragraph 4?
    A. Bell thought Snow White behaved well.
    B. Bell didn’t know how to persuade her kids.
    C. Bell wanted her kids to learn from Snow White.
    D. Bell believed her kids should be critical about the film.
6、What qualities do Knightley and Bell expect their children to have?
    A. Curious and hard-working. B. Smart and generous.
    C. Independent and good-mannered. D. Critical and proud.
7、What can be a suitable title for the text?
    A. Say No to Disney Princesses B. Rescue Yourselves
    C. Doing Something Right D. Practice Critical Thinking
America is growing older. Fifty years ago, only 4 out of every 100 people in the United States were 65 or older. Today, 10 out of every 100 Americans are over 65. The aging of the population will affect American society in many ways — education, medicine, and business. Quietly, the graying of America has made us a very different society — one in which people have a quite different idea of what kind of behavior is suitable at various ages.
A person's age no longer tells you anything about his/her social position, marriage or health. There's no longer a particular year in which one goes to school or goes to work or gets married or starts a family. The social clock that keeps us on time and tells us when to go to school, get a job, or stop working isn't as strong as it used to be. It doesn't surprise us to hear of a 29-year-old university president or a 35-year-old grandmother, or a 70-year-old man who has become a father for the first time. Public ideas are changing.
Many people say, “I am much younger than my mother — or my father — was at my age. 'No one says Act your age' any more. We've stopped looking with surprising at older people who act in youthful ways."
8、It can be learnt from the text that the aging of the population in America ____.
    A. has made people feel younger
    B. has changed people's social position
    C. has changed people's understanding of age
    D. has slowed down the country's social development
9、The underlined word "one" refers to "____."
    A. a society B. America C. a place D. population
10、"Act your age" means people should ____.
    A. be active when they are old
    B. do the right things at the right age
    C. show respect for their parents young or old
    D. take more physical exercise suitable to their age
11、If a 25-year-old man becomes general manager of a big firm, the writer of the text would most probably consider it ___.
    A. normal B. wonderful C. unbelievable D. unreasonable
Convincing someone to change their mind is really the process of convincing them to change their tribe (部落). If they abandon their beliefs, they run the risk of losing social ties. You can’t expect someone to change their mind if you take away their community too.
The way to change people’s minds is to become friends with them, to combine them into your tribe, to bring them into your circle. Now, they can change their beliefs without the risk of being abandoned socially.
The British philosopher Alain de Botton suggests that we simply share meals with those who disagree with us: “Sitting down at a table with a group of strangers has the incomparable and odd benefit of making it a little more difficult to hate them without punishment. Prejudice and conflict between groups of people from different nations or races feed off abstraction. However, during a meal, something about handing dishes around, unfolding napkins (餐巾纸) at the same moment, even asking a stranger to pass the salt makes us less likely to hold the belief that the outsiders who wear unusual clothes and speak in distinctive accents deserve to be sent home or attacked. For all the large-scale political solutions which have been proposed to ease racial or cultural conflict, there are few more effective ways to promote tolerance between suspicious neighbours than to force them to eat supper together.”
Perhaps it is not difference, but distance that produces tribalism and unfriendliness. As proximity increases, so does understanding. I am reminded of Abraham Lincoln’s quote, “I don’t like that man. I must get to know him better.” Facts don’t change our minds. Friendship does.
The Japanese writer Haruki Murakami once wrote, “Always remember that to argue, and win, is to break down the reality of the person you are arguing against. It is painful to lose your reality, so be kind, even if you are right.”
When we are in the moment, we can easily forget that the goal is to connect with the other side, cooperate with them, befriend them, and integrate them into our tribe. We are so caught up in winning that we forget about connecting. It’s easy to spend your energy labeling people rather than working with them.
The word “kind (family and relatives)” originated from the word “kin (old fashion of family and relatives).” When you are kind to someone, it means you are treating them like family. This, I think, is a good method for actually changing someone’s mind. Develop a friendship. Share a meal. Gift a book. Be kind first, be right later.
12、People are likely to change their mind when they ________.
    A. change their beliefs B. are made friends with
    C. move to a new community D. are given somewhere to go
13、According to the passage, sharing meals is effective in building connections because it ________.
    A. pleases people with different beliefs or accents
    B. makes people focus on eating rather than conflicts
    C. brings benefits to the people having dinner together
    D. promotes understanding and tolerance among people
14、What does the underlined word “proximity” in paragraph 4 mean?
    A. Nearness. B. Action. C. Communication. D. Politeness.
15、The author quotes from Haruki Murakami to imply(暗示) that ________.
    A. breaking down one’s reality is easy
    B. kindness is more important than right
    C. arguing and winning are not important
    D. losing one’s identity is a painful process

This is the one that I'm quite annoyed about because I really like the film. I mean, the songs are great, but do not give up your voice for a man. Well, that's a little difficult to handle, but I'm keeping to it.""
Don't you think it's very unusual that Snow White didn't ask the old witch whyshe needed to eat the apple? Or where she got that apple? I say, I would never take food from a stranger wouldyou?" And my kids respond, 'No!" And I think I'm doing something right""你不觉得奇怪吗 ,白雪公主对老巫婆递过来的苹果问都不问就吃下去了。
Everything is a message to our children, because they are sponges(海绵) that soak up everything and are learning how to be adults through what they see. I want my girls to see and practice critical thinking and respectful behavior."" Curious and hard-working. Smart and generous. Independent and good-mannered. Critical and proud.
    7、答案:A
Actors Keira Knightley and Kristen Bell have both commented on their worries about using Disney princesses as role models for their children.
根据第一段的“Quietly, the graying of America has made us a very different society — one in which people have a quite different idea of what kind of behavior is suitable at various ages.(悄无声息地,美国的老龄化把我们变成了一个非常不同的社会——在这个社会里,人们对不同年龄的人适合什么样的行为有着截然不同的看法。)”
    9、答案:A
根据划线句“Quietly, the graying of America has made us a very different society — one in which people have a quite different idea of what kind of behavior is suitable at various ages.(悄无声息地,美国的老龄化把我们变成了一个非常不同的社会——在这个社会里,人们对不同年龄的人适合什么样的行为有着截然不同的看法。)” 故选A。
根据第一段的“Quietly, the graying of America has made us a very different society — one in which people have a quite different idea of what kind of behavior is suitable at various ages.(悄无声息地,美国的老龄化把我们变成了一个非常不同的社会——在这个社会里,人们对不同年龄的人适合什么样的行为有着截然不同的看法。)”和最后一段“Many people say, “I am much younger than my mother — or my father — was at my age. 'No one says Act your age' any more. We've stopped looking with surprising at older people who act in youthful ways."(许多人说:“我比我母亲或父亲在我这个年纪时年轻得多。”
    11、答案:A
根据第二段的“It doesn't surprise us to hear of a 29-year-old university president or a 35-year-old grandmother, or a 70-year-old man who has become a father for the first time. 和最后一段的最后一句“We've stopped looking with surprising at older people who act in youthful ways."(我们已经不再惊讶于以年轻人的方式行事的老年人了。)” 故选A。
The way to change people's minds is to become friends with them, to combine them into your tribe, to bring them into your circle.
根据第三段最后一句中的 there are few more effective ways to promote tolerance between suspicious neighbours than to force them to eat supper together 可知,一起吃饭能促进人们之间的理解与宽容,这也让它成为了建立联系的有效方法,D项符合题意。
    14、答案:A
Perhaps it is not difference, but distance that produces tribalism and unfriendliness.
Always remember that to argue, and win, is to break down the reality of the person you are arguing against. It is painful to lose your reality, so be kind, even if you are right.
解析:①A. The next time you pick up a glass, notice the place where your fingers touched it.Do you see patterns of these lines?(下次你拿起玻璃杯时,注意你手指碰到的地方。 故选A项。②G. 根据上文Fingerprints(指纹)begin to form long before a baby is born.(指纹早在婴儿出生之前就开始形成了)和下文Even if we injure our fingers, the lines of our fingerprints grow back the same way,as long as the injury isn't very serious.(即使我们的手指受伤了,只要伤势不是很严重,我们的指纹线也会以同样的方式长回来)可知,指纹是人类天生具有的东西,指纹未被损毁严重,会伴随人类一生,承接上下文,G选项"当我们进入这个世界的时候,我们会留下我们一生的指纹。"切题。故选G项。③F. Because fingerprints are unique, they can be used to identify people. They might help us improve our sense of touch.Or they might help tell a doctor whether a patient is properly absorbing the medicine they've been given. Also they might help police to solve crimes (破案). Just imagine our life without fingerprints! It'd be difficult for us to read information and interact with whatever we're touching or holding in our hands. How do you feel when your fingers are interacting with the buttons of the computer while wearing gloves?Or did you find difficulties in unlocking your phone?(戴手套时,手指与电脑按钮互动时,你的感觉如何?

    37、答案:①of②protection③themselves④correctly⑤older⑥is separated⑦a⑧increasing⑨that⑩were
由于有this kind of 修饰,故用名词protections。
本句为固定短语as a result因此,故用a。
People always say that we lack the eyes of realizing the beauty in life. I can’t agree. Last Sunday, I woke up very early and to take a walk. I found several elders in feeding birds in the square, many people were dancing. Without many cars, I realized the city looked so clean beautiful. Some coffee shops were well decorated, which attracted eyes. The whole city was covered with green trees, making it green city. At this moment, I found the city was pretty. How I regret its beauty before!
去掉of.
    2.much改为more.
    5.there改为 where.
    6.but改为and.
    7.our改为 my.
    8.green前加a.
    9. well改为good.
    Dear Amy,
Thank you for your letter. I am so glad to have a talk about your present situation with you.
People often miss their parents the first time they leave home. Most people do have to leave home for higher education or employment. You cannot live with your parents forever. I think you should realize that present separation will help your academic development and your improvement of personal ability.
You need to make friends on your school campus, sharing ideas with your classmates who are physically closest to you now. Maybe you will still miss your parents, but your new friends will bring happiness and joy to your new life. Also I suggest you enjoy yourself by taking an active part in different kinds of activities in school. You will get much pleasure from it.
    Wish you happy every day.
    Faithfully yours,
    Big friend
