What about people living in ancient times? Did they eat takeouts?
In fact, there was takeout as far back as the Song Dynasty. According to history books, Emperor Xiaozong (1127-1194) liked to order takeouts late at night. His servants then went around the city to pick up the dishes and bring them back to the palace.
Ordinary (普通的) people also ordered takeouts. Restaurant waiters would go out into the streets and yell out which dishes could be ordered that day. After hearing the waiters, people could then place an order. Later, delivery workers would bring food to their homes. In the famous Song Dynasty painting Along the River During the Qingming Festival (《清明上河图》), a takeout worker can be seen on a delivery with food in hand.

As Internet users become more dependent on the Internet to store information, do people remember less? If you know your computer will store information, why do you store it in your own personal memory? Experts are wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember. In a recent study, Professor Betsy Sparrow made some experiments (实验). She and her research team wanted to know how the Internet is changing memory.
In the first experiment, they asked two groups of people to put 40 unimportant facts into a computer. The first group of people understood that the computer would store the information. The second group understood that the computer would not store it. Later, the second group remembered the information better. People in the first group knew they could find the information again, so they did not try to remember it.
In the second experiment, the researchers gave people facts to remember, and told them where to find the information on the Internet. The information was in an exact computer folder (文件夹). Surprisingly, people later remember the folder location better than the facts. When people use the Internet, they do not remember the information. However, they remember how to find it. This is called “transactive memory (交互记忆)”.
According to Sparrow, we are not becoming people with poor memories as a result of the Internet. Instead, computer users are developing stronger transactive memories; that is, people are learning how to organize a lot of information so that they are able to get it at a later date. This doesn’t mean we are becoming either more or less clever but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is changing.
52.What can we learn from the first experiment?
A.Both groups remembered the information well.
B.Group 1 remembered the information faster.
C.Group 2 remembered the information better.
53.What do we know about transactive memory from the second experiment?
A.People organize the information like a computer.
B.People remember how to find the information.
C.People keep the information in mind.
54.What does the underlined word “location” probably mean?
A.Space. B.Memory. C.Place.
55.What’s the text written for?
A.Describing the organizing of computers on people’s memory.
B.Introducing the influence of computers on people’s memory.
C.Showing the development of stronger memories.

Recently, the AI chatbot (聊天机器人) ChatGPT has become a hot topic. Many people are deeply attracted by the robot. However, when it comes to education, some people hold different opinions about whether ChatGPT is offering help or making things worse.
In my opinion, ChatGPT has helped me in many ways, from giving cooking tips to writing emails, but I’ve never tried to use it in my education. It can provide lots of information for us, but we sometimes are not sure whether the information is correct. Also, depending on it to do our homework will just make us stop thinking. |
Whether ChatGPT is good or bad for education, I think it all depends on how students use it. If students use it to help them better understand certain topics that teachers may not explain clearly in class, I think it can really help their learning. However, if ChatGPT is simply used for homework or cheating on exams, I think it will do no good. So, it is important to guide students to use Chat GPT in the proper way. |
I think Chat GPT is terrible for education. This is because it’s powerful to allow lazy and hardworking people to achieve the same level of excellence with the same level of education. This makes students who should work hard become lazy. |

Everyone has their own dreams. For me, I want to be an English teacher when I grow up. In order to realise my dream, I make a list of things I need to do, then I follow my plan. For example, I take an active part in class activities and communicate with teachers and classmates in English as much as possible. What’s more, I take every opportunity to show myself in front of people. I think if I want to be a teacher, I should have the ability and courage to speak out in public. I also try to help my classmates with their study so that I can exercise my thinking ability.
By doing these things, I have not only improved my English but also developed my communication skills. I can express my ideas quickly and clearly in English now. A clear goal guides me to better plan my study and life, and helps me feel a sense of success in different areas of life.
