If someone was silly and perhaps looked like a fool, Shakespeare found their actions laughable. And for those who offered their opinions on something’s quality, Shakespeare called them critics. Today , for instance, food critics and film critics give their opinions on food and films.

Nowadays. Many of us spend about 10 hours a day in front of a computer or other electronic devices and less than 30 minutes a day outdoors. The result is that our brain easily feels tired. We need to give the brain a rest, but how?
David Strayer is a professor of psychology at the University of Utah. He claims that camping may be just what a tech-tired brain needs. His argument finds strong support from Carl and Kate, two experienced campers. Carl, who works for a mobile phone company, says that being outdoors makes him feel relaxed. It also prepares him for the work he must do. “Camping gives us a chance to be in touch with nature and is very relaxing. When you return to work on Monday, you’re in a better state of mind. I really like the way I feel on Monday.” Kate is a senior editor. She says camping brings her some peace she couldn’t have otherwise. She even finds herself more creative.
David Strayer explains that camping allows close contact with nature, and being in nature calms the brain and helps it to focus. When people go camping, they need to learn about animals and natural environments; they have to deal with the weather, learn to stay dry in the rain and warm in the snow and have to learn how to keep the feet in good condition when hiking and walking.
Some might say that taking a long walk in the woods or by the ocean or in a city park is wonderful, too. But camping requires that one spends more time in nature and it can test him in different ways. And it brings more health benefit as well.
28.What is the result of using electronic devices too much?
A.Our brain will feel exhausted. B.We will waste time.
C.Our study will be influenced. D.Our brain will be refreshed.
29.Why does the author take Carl and Kate as examples?
A.To share a good camping site. B.To share their work experiences.
C.To show the advantages of camping. D.To show their interest in camping.
30.Which of the following is the benefit of camping?
A.It helps protect the environment. B.It helps us learn more about nature.
C.It teaches us to keep warm in the rain. D.It teaches us to avoid difficult situations.
31.What is the author’s attitude towards camping?
    A.Positive B.Negative C.Uninterested D.Doubtful
    D
Since I was born and brought up in a rural town, I have a great interest in nature. Using the chance of studying abroad in my second year at college, I decided to go to Canada just because I wanted to see the beautiful phenomena there. So after I finished the study, I went to Yellowknife in the Northwest. I clearly remember the sixth night in Yellowknife. Suddenly my host mother came to my room around 8 p. m. and told me to change clothes and go outside quickly carrying her camera.
The northern lights were flickering (闪烁)in the sky! I was amazed and just stood there with my mouth open. I forgot to take pictures of the mysterious lights.
Since that night, whenever it was sunny, I went outside at night and looked at the sky. It was so cold that my hands and feet were numb with cold. Actually, the time of my being able to be out was limited. I had to bring her camera back to the house in one hour at the most, for the camera was going to be broken because of the cold temperature.
As I took pictures of the northern lights, I came to find a characteristic movement of the lights. They first appear in the north part of the sky and then they gradually come down to the south. After that, suddenly, they come in the middle of the north and south only for a while, which is the time when the best northern lights can be seen. Since it is only a few seconds for the northern lights to come down to the middle of the sky, it is very hard to get good pictures.
The stronger the sun acts, the better and stronger northern lights flicker in the sky. That’s because they occur from the collision(碰撞)between atmospheric gases and solar wind. Much more solar wind comes to the earth when the sun is active, leading to the best northern lights.
32.Why did the author forget to take pictures?
    A.It was freezing cold outside.
B.He was shocked by the wonderful sights.
C.The lights were flickering in the sky.
D.He lost all his feeling in his hands and feet.
33.What can we infer from the passage?
A.The northern lights came out every night.
B.The author took lots of pictures with his camera.
C.The author could stay as long as he liked outdoors.
D.Cameras will be damaged if exposed too long to coldness.
34.When is the best time to see the northern lights?
A.They appear in the north part of the sky.
B.They rise in the east and set in the west.
C.They are between the north and south.
D.They come down to the south part of the sky.
35.Why is it hard for the author to take good pictures?
A.The lights stay in the middle for a very short time.
B.The lights of the sun affect the northern lights.
C.The lights are caused by the collisions of gases.
D.The colours of the lights are determined by the height.

Tim noticed the resumes of other candidates and was surprised to see that some of them held a Master’s(硕士) Degree or even a Doctor’s Degree. But Tim was only a Bachelor ( 本科 ), and barely met the company’s lowest requirement of the diploma .Tim felt a bit frustrated because he had no advantage over other candidates who were excellent students.

All the candidates entered the exam hall after handing up their resumes. Tim scanned through the pages of the test paper and found out that the questions were very difficult for him. Tim tried to calm down and focus on the questions themselves instead of their difficulty level. He started with the easiest ones and moved on to the more difficult ones slowly .There were two invigilators (监考人) in the hall, one of them was tall and thin, while the other invigilator was of the opposite: he was short and fat. They seemed to be quite confident about the honesty of the candidates and were absent- minded. After about 10 minutes, one of the invigilators left to answer a phone call. The other invigilator soon went out too.

The atmosphere in the exam hall changed after the invigilators had left. Some of the candidates took out notes and books, some of them brought tablets to search for answers, and some even called others for help. Tim looked back, and he saw the candidate sitting behind him cheating too. The man winked to Tim ,as if telling him to cheat in the test because everyone was doing so. Tim shook his head and continued doing the difficult problems at a slow pace.
In about half an hour, the invigilators returned to the exam hall. Tim still had one question left blank at the end of the test. He was almost sure that he was not going to be accepted.

    50.考查时态。句意:这个男人的美梦就此结束。提示是句中谓语动词,根据上文可知,描述过去的事情,应用一般过去时。故填brought。
    51.Dear Andy,
How is it going these days? I would like to thank you for your hospitality when I visited Los Angeles last month. I had a good time at many places of interest with you being my guide.
Above all, I am particularly impressed by the delicious meals your mother prepared and the board games we played together. Those were not the things one could easily experience. Although I am now back in China, the happy scenes keep floating in my mind.
I want to invite you to China. I’m sure you will have an unforgettable experience as I did.
    Yours,
    Li Hua
    玩得开心:have a good time→enjoy oneself
    首先:above all→in the first place
    2.句式拓展
    简单句变复合句
原句:I had a good time at many places of interest with you being my guide.
拓展句:I had a good time at many places of interest with you, who were my guide.
【点睛】[高分句型1] Above all, I am particularly impressed by the delicious meals your mother prepared and the board games we played together. (运用了which/that引导的限制性定语从句,省略了which/that)
[高分句型2] Although I am now back in China, the happy scenes keep floating in my mind. (运用了although引导的让步状语从句)
