三、阅读单选
She had been shopping with her Mom in Wal-Mart. She must have been 6 years old. It was pouring so heavily. We all stood there just inside the door of the Wal-Mart.
Then, we heard the girt asked, “Mom, let’s run through the rain.”
“What?” Mom asked.
“Let’s run through the rain.” She repeated.
“No, honey. We’ll wait until it slows down a bit,” Mom replied. This young child waited about another minute and repeated, “Mom. let’s run through the rain.”
“We’ll get wet if we do.” Mom said.
“No, we won’t, Mom. That’s not what you said this morning.” The young girl said.
“This morning? When did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet?”
“Don’t you remember? When you were talking to Daddy about his cancer (癌症), you said, if God can get us through this, he can get us through anything!”
We all stood silently, No one came or left in the next few minutes. Mom said nothing for a while. “Honey, you are right. Let’s run through the rain. If we get wet, maybe we just need washing,” Mom said. Then off they ran.
We all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they rushed past the cars and they held their shopping bags over their heads just in case they got wet. When they were followed by a few who screamed and laughed like children all the way to their cars.
And yes, I did. I ran. I got wet. People can take away material possessions, your money or your health. But no one can ever take away your precious memories. So don’t forget to make time and take the chances to make memories every day! I hope you still take the time to run through the rain.

When the dog named Judy saw the first sheep in her life, she did what came naturally. She set off racing after the sheep across several fields and, being a city animal, lost both her sheep and her sense of direction. Then she ran along the edge(边缘)of the cliff (悬崖)and fell 100 feet, jumping off a rock into the sea.
Her owner Mike Holden was worried and called the coastguard of Cornwall, who appeared in seconds. Six volunteers went down the cliff with the help of a rope but gave up all hope of finding her alive after a 90-minute search.
Three days later, a hurricane(飓风)hit the coast near Cornwall. Mr. Holden returned home from his holiday upset, believing his pet was dead. He comforted himself with the thought she had died in the most beautiful part of the country.
For the next two weeks, the Holdens were heartbroken. Then, one day, the phone rang and Steve Tregear, the coastguard of Cornwall, asked Holden if he would like his dog back.
A birdwatcher, using a telescope(望远镜), found the pet sitting on a rock. While he sounded the alarm, a student from Leeds climbed down the cliff to pick up Judy.
The dog had been knocked unconscious(失去知觉的)but had survived by drinking water from a fresh stream at the base of the cliff. She may have fed on the body of a sheep which had also fallen over the edge. “The dog was very thin and hungry,” Steve Tregear said, “It was a very ________ dog. She survived because of the fresh water around,” he added.
It was, as Mr. Holden admitted, “a miracle(奇迹)”.
26.Why did Judy fell off the cliff?

A.interesting B.happy C.lucky D.pretty
We know that many animals do not stay in one place. Bird, fish and other animals move from one place to another at a certain time. They move for different reasons: most of them move to find food more easily, but others move to get away from places that are too crowded.
When cold weather comes, many birds move to warmer places to find food. Some fishes give birth in warm water and move to cold water to feed. The most famous migration(迁徙)is probably the migration of the fish, which is called “salmon”. This fish is born in fresh water, but it travels many miles to salt water. There it spends its life because they can get food easily there. When it is old, it returns to its birthplace in fresh water. Then it gives birth and dies. In northern Europe, there is a kind of mice. They live their mountain homes when they become too crowded. They move down to the low land. Sometimes they move all the way to the seaside, and many of them are killed when they fall into the sea.
Recently, scientists have studied the migration of a kind of lobsters(龙虾). Every year, when the season of the bad weather arrives, the lobsters get into a long line and start to walk across the floor of the ocean. Nobody knows why they do this, and nobody knows where they go. So, sometimes we know why humans and animals move from one place to another, but at other times, we don’t. Maybe living things just like to move.

How to Be a Better Self
Where there is a country, there is a home. As a student, I think what I can do for my country is to make myself a better man.
First of all, as the saying goes, “knowledge is power.” I will try my best to study because I want to go to the college in the future. And I will also follow all kinds of rules including the school rules, traffic rules and so on. In my free time, I will give up a few hours each week to help others, like volunteering in the old people’s home, visiting sick children. I believe these things can help to build my inner beauty. Last but not least, I will do exercise three times a week to keep my body healthy.
We teenagers are the future of our country. So let’s take actions to make ourselves better men.
