Making use f the wind, the water r, fr mre than half f all plant species, animals, plants disperse (散播) seeds far and wide. Frugivres — animals such as gibbns that feed n the fleshy fruits f plants — eat and then excrete (排泄) seeds away frm the riginal tree. The African savanna elephant can carry seeds up t a recrd-breaking distance f 65 kilmetres. This ability t shift gegraphical ranges will be crucial t plants when it cmes t surviving climate change. Hwever, just like all gibbn species, the African savanna elephant is endangered, its ppulatin dwn by 60 percent ver the past 50 years.
Researchers in Denmark and the USA have published a new study int hw the lss f seed-dispersing animals culd affect the resilience (恢复力) f frests and ther natural ecsystems. Accrding t their research, this lss has already reduced the ability f plants t mve in pace with climate change by 60 percent, and in sme areas by as much as 95 percent.
Evan Fricke, lead authr f the study, explains that in rder t reach these results, they pulled tgether existing data frm all previus studies and used machine learning t develp mdels that culd estimate the seed dispersal ptential f any animal, even nes that are nw extinct.
The researchers fund that, histrically, the decline f seed-dispersing animals has had the greatest influence n plants acrss the temperate (温带的) regins f Nrth and Suth America, Eurpe and suthern Australia. “Our temperate ecsystems have lst a lt f the natural seed-dispersal functin that they wuld have had.” explains Fricke, referring t large mammals that were nce widespread in these regins.
Nevertheless, the pr cnservatin status f many seed-dispersing trpical animals puts plants in regins such as Sutheast Asia and Madagascar mst at risk tday. Withut the preservatin f such animals, glbal seed dispersal culd decline by a further 15 percent. “The direct implicatin f this decline is that many plant species will be unable t keep pace with a changing climate,” says Fricke. “That means the ptential lss nt nly f plant bidiversity but f the ecsystem functins that thse plants prvide.”
As wildlife is lst, plants can n lnger adapt and survive and frests becme less sustainable, which reduces the amunt f carbn they can stre. They als lse their ability t supprt wildlife. Whle ecsystems are disrupted. The cnclusin, Fricke says, is clear: we must cnserve currently endangered species and restre the ppulatins f imprtant seed dispersers. “Independent f climate change, rewilding has the ptential t benefit ur ecsystems, but in a changing climate, it has the added benefit f increasing the climate resilience f thse ecsystems,” he says.
24.The authr mentins the African savanna elephant in Paragraph 1 is t ________.
A.highlight the prblemB.predict the ending
C.express an pininD.prvide a slutin
25.What des Fricke cnclude frm the study?
A.plants disperse seeds by way f animals excreting them.
B.rewilding can prmte the climate resilience f ur ecsystems.
C.seed-dispersing animals culd hardly affect the natural ecsystems.
D.the lss f seed-dispersing animals has little influence n temperate regins.
26.Which wuld be the best title f the passage?
A.The Resilience f Ecsystems
B.The Cnservatin f Seed-dispersing Animals

Why d we chse t help ne anther? There are many reasns. Yu may be a selfless persn r lending a hand may be a cultural expectatin.
Nw, researchers are raising the pssibility that gd sleep may be a wnderful ingredient that prmtes the alacrity t ffer help between human beings. Indeed the better sleep yu have, the mre willing yu will be t lend a hand. And a surprising new set f research studies have fund that sleep lss may affect ur genersity at different levels.
Researchers at University f Califrnia, Berkley, led three small studies t explre genersity. In ne study, they expsed a grup f healthy adults t a night f 8 hurs f sleep and a night with n sleep. Researchers scanned the participants’ brains after each night. After a sleepless night, areas f the brain invlved in empathy and helping behavir were less active. In fact, when the study participants were sleepless at night, 78% f them demnstrated a reductin in the desire t help thers.
In the next study, researchers tracked 136 peple thrugh nline questinnaires and sleep diaries fr a few days. They wanted t see if nightly variatins in sleep affected their desire t help thers. They fund that, when sleep quality wrsened frm ne night t the next, there was a majr decrease in “helping chices” and vice versa.
The third study lked at hw sleep lss affected genersity n a larger scale. The researchers analyzed data frm ver 3 millin charitable dnatins made in the U.S.. They fcused n dnatins during the transitin t Daylight Saving Time(DST)in spring each year. During the spring time change, we lse an hur f sleep.
Interestingly, researchers fund a 10% drp in dnatins in regins that change their clcks. This drp wasn’t seen in regins that didn’t bserve the time change. It shwed that insufficient sleep triggered by the time change impacted dnatin behavir.
All these results suggest that insufficient sleep makes us less cmpassinate and helpful. Thrughut the wrld, mre than half f adults dn’t get enugh sleep during the wrkweek, but we shuld all start valuing adequate sleep rather than treating it like smething ptinal r unprductive. If s, it will enable us t be mre helpful and t be the best versins f urselves.

AI is currently being used in varius ways. S what des that mean? Des it mean the wrld will sn be verrun by rbts? Hwever, when it cmes t custmer service, AI cannt cmpletely replace human interactin, fr nw at least.
Actually, all custmer service interactins have tw aspects: emtin and urgency. New AI tls can handle high-urgency situatins quickly, but as t high-emtin situatins, n AI can deal with them successfully. A rbt might be able t recgnize yu’re trying t check in fr a flight recently canceled, but the emtinal aspect is entirely un-prgrammable. Perhaps the passenger has increasingly high emtins abut the flight being canceled because he is flying t an imprtant business meeting. Cases like this can create high-stress mments fr the custmer. Only a persn can understand the difference.
High-stress mments tend t stay with custmers frever, s it’s imprtant t have a plan in place. Gd cmpanies are better at determining which cases AI can handle n its wn and which cases need t be handled by a human with AI assistance. In high-emtin cases, there’s n substitute (替补) fr the persnal tuch f a human. Passengers whse luggage is lst are ging t seek ut an emplyee t help them lcate their bags. Althugh AI can be used t lcate their bags, it can hardly deal with passengers’ high emtins.
The cnversatin arund AI nw is t fcused n the questin f hw AI can replace human interactin, which is missing the pint. The aim f AI shuldn’t be t replace human interactin, but t imprve it. The questin here wn’t be hw far we can push AI, but hw we can use ur imaginatin t cntinue reinventing (改良) the prblem-slving prcess.
31.What is implied in paragraph 1?
A.AI has had cntrl ver the human being.
B.AI can ttally replace human interactin.
C.AI can handle high-emtin cases easily.
D.AI still has its wn limitatins at present.
32.Why is the example f a canceled fight mentined in paragraph 2?
A.T highlight the passengers’ high emtins.
B.T prve the efficiency f AI handling urgency.
C.T shw AI can handle high-emtin cases well.
D.T stress the advantage a persn has ver AI.
33.Why shuld cmpanies have a plan fr high-stress mments?
A.High-stress mments require mre AI tls.
B.High-stress mments can be handled by AI alne.
C.High-stress mments are unfrgettable fr custmers.
D.High-stress mments are ignred by mst cmpanies.
34.What will we fcus n when using AI t handle custmer service?
A.Replacing humans with new AI tls.
B.Paying attentin t slving prblems.
C.Aviding making truble fr custmers.
D.Trying t invent mre new AI tls.
