The diet is based on the idea that the cells that make up our bodies need specific nutrients and that the health of the _33 determines the health of the body. The best food to nourish our cells are 34 whole foods, raised with
traditional methods of agriculture, without the use of artificial nutrients. It is also believed that because we don't always eat as well as we should and therefore might be missing some nutrients 35 , we should supplement our diet with

    Section A (15 分)
Directions: For each blank in the following passage there are four words or phrases marked A, B,C and D. Fill in each blank with the word or phrase that best fits the context.
If you are at all typical, listening takes up more of your waking hours than any other activity. A study of persons of varied occupational backgrounds showed that 70% of their waking moments were spent in communication. And of that time, writing took 9%, reading absorbed 16%, talking occupied 30%, and 41 accounted for 45%. Other surveys underscore the large amounts of time that people in different walks of life spend in listening. It is important to listen effectively because of the sheer amount of it that you do each day.
42 , many of the most important aspects of your life are greatly influenced by your skills or 43 of skill in listening. The quality of your friendships, the 44 of your family relationships, your effectiveness at work .
these depend, in large measure, on your ability to listen.
Unfortunately, few people are good listeners. Even at the purely informational level, researchers claim that 75% of oral communication is 45 , misunderstood, or quickly forgotten. Rarer still is the ability to listen for the deepest
meaning in what people say. How 46 , but how common, to talk with someone about subjects of intense interest to oneself 47 to experience the choking realization that the other person was not really listening and that his
responses were simply 48 and mechanical.
A major reason for the poor listening in our society is that most of us receive a very rigorous early training in non-listening. The therapist Franklin Ernst says that "from the earliest years of life, a person's 49 activity is the most heavily trained of all activities... The person's listening ... is more attended to than his bowel training, his bladder activity, or his genital activity." Ernst points out that the typical child, in his most impressionable years, receives a steady 50 of anti-listening regulations. 51 say things like:
    “Pretend you don't notice."
    “Don't take it so seriously.”
“He didn't mean what he said.”
“We don't listen to those things in our family.
The typical parent not only 52 these anti-listening comments, he demonstrates them daily in his own life. By
word and 53 we are taught to be non-listeners in our childhood.
Most of us have been trained to be poor listeners. Yet 54 we spend more time listening than doing anything

    ITI. Reading Comprehension (22 分)
Directions: Read the following passage. The passage is followed by several questions. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read.
    (A)
We'd all like to believe that career success is strictly a result of talent, drive, and skill set. But have you ever wondered whether factors unrelated to your work performance, such as personal appearance, influence your chances for advancement?
We have — and to find answers to this question, career-intelligence.com sought the opinions and advice of a number of workplace experts, as well as women themselves in various industries. Do looks affect getting hired, getting promoted, and making more money? And if so, what can you do about it?
Now let's see what's behind the Scenes.
Research gives us a few clues into how a woman's appearance may influence her advancement ability. A study conducted by NYU sociologist Dalton Conley and NYU graduate student Rebecca Glauber found that women's weight gain results in a decrease in both their income level and job prestige. By contrast, men experience no such negative effects.
A more recent study designed and executed by researchers at Harvard University, Boston University, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute found that women wearing more makeup were judged to be more competent than those wearing less makeup or no makeup. Makeup was found to increase people's perceptions of a woman's likability and trustworthiness as well.
Despite these research implications, many are reluctant to admit that a woman's personal appearance influences decisions around hiring and promotion, according to Steve Stroum, president of Venmark International. Stroum explains a key reason for this is that personal appearance falls into the subliminal (下意识的)judgment part of the brain. He compares the situation to the automotive industry placing bright red convertibles (敞篷车)in their showrooms, only to sell white cars. "In the same sense, a woman's personal appearance is a hidden persuader, says Stroum. "Nobody will admit that something as trivial will impact their decision-making process... but it does.”
Marc L. Resnick, Ph.D., professor of human factors at Bentley University College of Business, reinforces this position. "My research finds that when making decisions, people are influenced by a variety of factors that are explicitly conscious and unconscious," says Resnick. "So even for a hiring manager that knows of this tendency and forces him/herself to suppress it, it is still an influence."
    56. According to the studies, what kind of women could get more advancement?
    A. Women with more weight. B. Women wearing makeup.
    C. Women having convertibles. D. Women with talents.
    57. Why do many people deny that a woman's personal appearance influences her career?
    A. Because it is irrelevant to her career. B. Because it is too superficial.
    C. Because it is the subconscious part in the brain. D. Because it can arouse women's jealous emotion.
    58. What does explicitly in the passage mean?
    A. clearly B. indirectly C. extensively D. ambiguously
    59. What is the main topic of the passage?
    A. Whether people's personal appearance influences their job career.
    B. Whether people's consciousness influences making a decision.
    C. Whether colors influences automotive industry.
    D. Whether people's talent influence their promotion.

Nobody ever said science education was easy. Certainly the concepts like quantum mechanics can be hard to grasp. But what really complicates the endeavor is that we're also trying to teach the subject while helping students understand the nature of science itself.
All too often, young people get the impression that science is about learning certain "laws" and then applying them to different situations. Rather, science is the process of building the concepts through the collection of experimental evidence. Let's not call these concepts laws, but models. Science is all about building and testing models.
Of course, we can't start from scratch. If students had to build their own models from the ground up, it would be like trying to learn programming by inventing computers. As Isaac Newton said, we stand on the shoulders of giants. We must go from models built by others.
But there's still another challenge in science education less recognized: Students often enter a course with their own unarticulated ideas about how the world works. We call these ,,misconceptions" but it's important to realize that these are also models, based on their lite experiences, which "make sense" to the students.
What I'd like to suggest is that this actually provides a great way into the adventure of science and an opportunity to meet our objectives as educators. If you can create a situation that challenges students' assumptions and produces conceptual conflict, that's a great opportunity for learning.
Here's an example that I've used on the topic of light rays. I set up a point light source and put a piece of cardboard in front of it. There's a small pinhole in the cardboard and a white screen behind. What do you expect to see? No surprise: A light shining through a pinhole makes a dot on the screen. But what if 1 have TWO light sources with the same single hole? Many students complain that science is tricky.
OK, that is a problem. The point isn't supposed to be that science is tricky but that learning is tricky. It's hard to change students' ideas, so we deliberately put them in a position to confront their internal model. Here, students have the idea that the spot on the screen is due to the pinhole - a natural conclusion - so one hole means one spot. But actually light travels radially outward from each light source in straight lines. (Check the top view (俯视图)of the two lights, the pinhole, and the screen below.)
But really, the answer is not the point. What I'm saying here is that in education, we set things up so students get it wrong. That's how they learn. Learning requires getting past their own ideas. You can't get physically fit without breaking a sweat and you can't really learn, at a fundamental level, without a little conflict in your head. C. according to various situations D. under the guidance of predecessors
    64. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?

    B. Learning science is all about putting theory to practice.
    C. Life experiences contribute to students' knowledge of the world.
    D. Students' own idea of how things work isn't eligible for a model.
    65. The top view mentioned in the writer's experiment is.

    66. According to the writer, what's the best way to teach science?
    A. Get the concepts and laws across to the students clearly.
    B. Help students to distinctively tell laws and models apart.
    C. Make science questions less tricky and more to the point.
    D. Set up experiments to challenge students' predictions.
    Section C (8 分)
Directions: Read the following passage and choose the most suitable statement from A-F for each blank. There are two extra statements, which you do not need.
    A. Without a change in our diets, this disastrous cycle will worsen.
    B. Farmers should use fertilizers more efficiently and reduce costs.
    C. It is a diet lull of vegetables, fruits and whole grains, with only occasional meat.
    D. Livestock consume an estimated two-thirds of all the land dedicated to agriculture and contribute about half of farming-related greenhouse-gas emissions.
    E. Unfortunately, Italians have been turning away from their traditional healthy diet.
    F. A more effective policy is to make healthy food, accessible and affordable for consumers and profitable for farmers.
    A diet to save humankind
When 1 was a child my family would always sit down together for meals. My lavourite was among the simplest: pasta in tomato sauce. We ate fresh vegetables and fruit, and, starting in our teenage years, sipped a glass of red wine. We ate together. 1 indulged with a few slices of prosciutto and practised a wide variety of outdoor sports. This centuries-old Mediterranean diet kept me fit and trim - and turned out to be good not just for my personal well-being, but for the planet's health too.
In 2021 we will celebrate the tenth anniversary of UNESCO's designation of this Mediterranean diet as a “Cultural Heritage of Humanity”.67 We have started to eat more fast food and have increased our portions. Fewer
Italians enjoy social meals with family and friends. Italian children were among the most overweight in a recent study of 30 countries.
Poor nutrition is a global problem, not just an Italian one. The fact that it's hitting Italy, the land where the Mediterranean diet originated, represents a dangerous paradox - one of many afflicting the world of food. After years of decline, hunger is back on the rise. Globally, some 821m people still do not have enough to eat. Yet while the poor south starves, the rich north gorges: some 2bn people are overweight or obese. We waste one-third of global food production. 68
69 The world's population is expected to increase by 2.3bn people by 2050, fuelling demand for meat.
Since the end of the second world war the global food system has focused on producing more food for more people — but then wastes huge amounts of it. A paradigm shift is needed. Production must concentrate on delivering better, more nutritious food.
The UN's Sustainable Development Goals can show us the way. They aim to "end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture." These goals are ambitious but achievable.
Governments must provide incentives to support sustainable agriculture, slash food waste and meet nutritional challenges. This does not just mean taxing unhealthy foods.70 Companies must not be short-sighted, either.
They should support legislation requiring them to embrace sustainability.
We must change our diet. A food and environment pyramid which highlights the close links between food's nutritional value and environmental impact has been devised. This “double pyramid" is based on the traditional Mediterranean diet of my childhood. Everyone can and must continue to have fun at the dinner table - while eating what is good for our health and our planet.

Why Mindset Mastery Is Vital to Your Success
The single most important factor influencing a person's success, whether personal or professional, is mindset. What you think about has a direct impact on your behavior, and not the other way around. A seemingly small thing that makes a huge difference, mindset accounts for the primary distinction between those who succeed and those who do not. And, if you are serious about achieving success in any area of your life, you must learn to master yours.
To successfully accomplish any worthwhile feat, a person must first feel capable of achieving it. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Mindset is essential to developing healthy self-esteem. It is an important tool that affects our daily self-dialogue and strengthen our beliefs, attitudes and feelings about ourselves. So, become the gatekeeper of your mind and plant seeds of positivity rather than criticism and doubt.
Besides, mindset is critical to drive. Drive is the constant determination to achieve an important objective. It includes the process of developing a vision for success and engaging in sustained effort over time. Without drive, achieving most goals would be difficult at best. With the power to direct focus and encourage commitment to higher purpose, mindset can easily urge someone to push past comfort zones. People with drive are self-motivated and strive to accomplish more.
No matter what goal you seek to achieve, the path to your success is sure to include some challenges. When lacing an extreme hardship, a person may feel justified in bowing to defeat. For them, it can feel like an easy road. If you want to get through them, however, you will need to develop thick skin and learn to lace each challenge head on. Yet, this is where mindset plays a critical role. The capacity to move through the fire, to get knocked down and not knocked out, is the proof to the power of a strong mindset.
Are you ready to command your results? If so, make a conscious decision to master your mindset and reach for greater success in the new year and beyond.

    Section B
Questions 11 through 13 are based on the following passage.
Little Jay and Mango, two seven-year-old yellow Labradors, embarked on a 450-km journey with their visually impaired owners during this Spring Festival travel rush.
“Our life has become more comfortable after we got Little Jay and Mango," said Zhou Tong, the dog's owner, who has had eye disease since childhood.
With the help of guide dogs and staff in railway stations, the couple made it to bullet train G4037, linking Beijing and their hometown Handan, a city in north China's Hebei Province.
"TVs very convenient to take the bullet train with guide dogs now. We usually call the 12306 customer service hotline to make an appointment for disabled passengers," said Zhou in the waiting room designated for the elderly, disabled and pregnant women. The station's staff helped guide them to the train.
According to Chinese regulations, passengers are banned from carrying animals on trains. However, a regulation rolled out in 2015 by the China Railway Corporation and China Disabled Persons' Federation allows visually impaired people to make train trips with their guide dogs.
A steward led the couple and the dogs to two seats near the bathroom and offered them beverages and snacks.
"When we take the train, we must bring our IDs, disabled certificates, guide dog certificates and dog vaccination certificates," Zhou said.
China has over 17 million blind and visually-impaired people. Many are restricted to their homes due to the inconvenience of going out. Zhou and her husband used to depend on the blind cane to go out before Little Jay and Mango joined the family in 2015 and 2016.
    11. What are Jay and Mango?
    12. What needn't the disabled passengers bring when taking the bullet train with Jay and Mango?
    13. Why are blind and visually-impaired people usually restricted to their homes in China?

Questions 14 through 16 are based on the following conversation.
Travelling was not so important and easy as it is today. In the past days, only people with a great deal of money could travel on holidays to other countries while to common people, travelling is like a dream which will hardly come true.
However, due to the fast development of economy and society, an increasing middle class appears in many parts of the world. More people travel today than in the past; that is to say, people now have money and time for a trip. Various kinds of plane fares and discounts on different transports for tourists make travel less expensive and more attractive than ever before. Some people even drive with their families or friends themselves. One person doesn't travel for the same reason as another. But most people enjoy seeing countries that are different from their own. They also like to meet new people, taste new food and experience new customs, etc.
Many changes have taken place in a country and in people's lives on account of tourism. For example, a large number of places in China have developed a theme of RED or GREEN tour to attract travelers and spread the local resources and products out around the world. In order to realize these wishes, people build new hotels and restaurants and train native men and women as guides to show visitors interesting places and persuade them into buying souvenirs. There're new nightclubs and other amusements.
Sooner or later, international tourism will clearly be a big business in the current world.
    14. Who could travel to other countries in the old days according to the passage?
    15. Why did more people travel today than in the past?
    16. What can we infer from the article?

Questions 17 through 20 are based on the following conversation.
Rebecca: So, Gareth, what's your daily routine like?
Gareth: My routine is actually a little irregular. 1 have a different working schedule for each day of the week, but on weekend my son usually wakes me up about nine o'clock, and after that we go downstairs, and I get him some cereal and we watch Toy Story, lie loves Buzz and Woody.
Rebecca: Every weekend the same movie?
Gareth: Exactly. Again and again. On weekdays, though, I usually wake up at six a.m. I have to go to work at eight, so I commute on the bus and train and that takes an hour and a half It takes a long time, and then I work. I get home about seven. I have dinner with my wife. Usually if I come home late, she waits and she'll have dinner with me, and sometimes she'll wait until nine.
    Rebecca: Whoa!
Gareth: Yeah, pretty late, so it's really nice.
Rebecca: Are you a morning shower person or a nighttime bath, relax person?
Gareth: Yeah, actually T think I'm a kind of night owl. I work much better in the evening and I get more done. Tn the morning I'm a little bit like a zombie, but these last years, working have kind of trained me to be an early bird. Waking up so early, as I do, I've kind of adapted to it. But I much prefer the evening.
Rebecca: So you would come home from work and eat dinner and then take the bath to calm down to go to bed at night? Gareth: No, actually 1 prefer showers than baths, but yeah, 1 usually relax with my family and watch a movie or read a book. My son's really into Dr. Seuss' books. They're classic children's books and they're great even for me. That's the good thing about having kids. You kind of get reattached to your childhood, and feel kind of nostalgic about your old activities like the things that you did when you were a child.
    17. Why did the man watch the same movie every weekend?
    18. When did the man usually get home on weekdays?
    19. What kind of man is he?
    20. What is the good thing about having kids according to the man?
