33、 Every man wants his son to be somewhat of a clone, not in features but in footsteps. As he grows you also age, and your ambitions become more unachievable. You begin to realize that your boy, in your footsteps, could probably accomplish what you hoped for. But footsteps can be muddied and they can go off in different directions.
My son Jody has hated school since the first day in kindergarten. Science projects waited until the last moment. Book reports weren't written until the final threat.
I've been a newspaperman all my adult life. My daughter is a university graduate working toward her master's degree in English. But Jody? When he entered the tenth grade he became a "vo-tech" student(技校学生). They're called "motorheads" by the rest of the student body.
When a secretary in my office first called him "motorhead", I was shocked. "Hey, he's a good kid, " I wanted to say. "And smart, really."
I learned later that motorheads are indeed different. They usually have dirty hands and wear dirty work clothes. And they don't often make school honor rolls(光荣榜).
But being the parent of a motorhead is itself an experience in education. We who labor in clean shirts in offices don't have the abilities that motorheads have. I began to learn this when I had my car crashed. The cost to repair it was estimated at $800. "Hey, I can fix it, " said Jody. I doubted it, but let him go ahead, for I had nothing to lose.
My son, with other motorheads, fixed the car. They got parts(零件) from a junkyard, and ability from vo-tech classes. The cost was $25 instead of $800.
Since that first repair job, a broken air-conditoner, a non-functioning washer and a non-toasting toaster have been fixed. Neighbors and co-workers trust their car repairs to him.
These kids are happiest when doing repairs. They joke and laugh and are living in their own relaxed world. And their minds are bright despite their dirty hands and clothes.
I have learned a lot from my motorhead: publishers need printers, engineers need mechanics, and architects need builders. Most important, I have l earned that fathers don't need clones in footsteps or anywhere else.
My son may never make the school honor roll. But he made mine.

Then she ran along the edge of the cliff(悬崖) and fell 100 feet, bouncing off a rock into the sea.
Her owner Mike Holden panicked and celled the coastguard of Cornwall, who turned up in seconds. Six volunteers slid down the cliff with the help of a rope but gave up all hope of finding her alive after a 90-minute search.
Three days later, a hurricane hit the coast near Cornwall. Mr. Holden returned home from his holiday upset and convinced his pet was dead. He comforted himself with the thought she had died in the most beautiful part of the country.
For the next two weeks, the Holdens were heartbroken. Then, one day, the phone rang and Steve Tregear, the coastguard of Cornwall, asked Holder if he would like his dog bark.
A birdwatcher, armed with a telescope, found the pet sitting desperately on a rock. When he sounded the alarm, a student from Leeds climbed down the cliff to collect Judy.
The dog had initially been knocked unconscious(失去知觉的) but had survived by drinking water from a fresh scream at the base of the cliff. She may have fed on the body of a sheep which had also fallen over the edge. "The dog was very thin and hungry, " Steve Tregear said, "It was a very lucky dog. COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, was once called an epidemic. An epidemic is a disease that has grown out of control and is spreading.
"We have rung the alarm bell loud and clear, " WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said. Without naming countries, he slammed the "alarming levels of inaction" from some governments. He mentioned China's success in controlling the virus and hoped that the world will listen to WHO's warning and take action to stop the outbreak.
The last time WHO announced a pandemic was during the H1N1 outbreak in 2009. The outbreak of SARS in 2002-2003, which was also caused by a coronavirus, never spread far enough to be called a pandemic.

Outside of China, cumulative confirmed cases(累计确诊病例) are highest in the USA, Spain, Italy, France and the UK, according to Xinhua News Agency. Daily case numbers in Italy and the UK are dropping.
"This is a reality check(提醒面对现实) for every government on the planet: Wake up. Get ready. For example, a basic aircraft carrier is made of 60, 000 tons of steel! It also uses complex(综合的) technologies including radar, electricity, mechanics and weapons. Finally, it takes years to build it.
Today, not many countries own an aircraft carrier or have the ability to build one.

根据文中倒数第二段最后一句 "Most important, I have learned that fathers don't need clones in footsteps or anywhere else." 故选:A。

根据文章第一段的第二句 "The four-year-old dog set off racing after the sheep…, lost both her sheep and her sense of direction."
根据文章第五段的第一句 "A birdwatcher, armed with a telescope, found the pet sitting desperately on a rock." 故选:A。
根据文章第六段的最后第二句 "'It was a very lucky dog. She survived because of a plentiful supply of fresh water, ' he added."

根据文章第一段的最后一 "A pandemic is the worldwide spread of a new disease." 根据文章第四段的最后一句 "The outbreak of SARS in 2002-2003, which was also caused by a coronavirus, never spread far enough to be called a pandemic." 根据文章倒数第三段的最后一句 "More than 65 thousand of those were new cases reported within a period of 24 hour…" 根据文章倒数第二段的第一句 "Outside of China, cumulative confirmed cases(累计确诊病例)are highest in the USA, Spain, Italy, France and the UK, according to Xinhua News Agency."

故选:A。
根据文中第四段第二句 "It can carry hundreds of planes and TAL#NBSPtroops to wars."
根据文中第五段第一、二句 "But an aircraft carrier is very hard and expensive to build. It costs a lot of money and uses a large amount of steel and other special materials."

It is necessary and important for us to get on well with our classmates. As far as I am concerned, I get on well with my classmates. After class, we will discuss the problem and go home together. Sometimes, we go out together on weekends. We often have lunch together in the canteen, too. It's so common for us to share food together. I love my classmates very much and will help me when I am in trouble. Once, I had a stomachache in gym class. They took my leave for me. And they helped me back to the classroom. What's more, they also poured hot water for me.
In my opinion, getting along well with classmates is the most basic thing. Because in school, the most contact occurs among students. If we treat others with sincerity, they will do the same to us. The feeling between classmates is the most unforgettable. After graduation, you won't remember how many papers you did, but the warm pictures between you and your classmates. So, please take the opportunity to get along with your classmates.
