Disneyland Park at Disneyland Paris—MarnelaVallee, France

It opened on April 12, 1992. Its layout (布局) is similar to that of the Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California and Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Bay Lake, Florida; it even has a Sleeping Beauty Castle. There are changes to the design of the park to make it better suited for the Parisian weather; the hotels and restaurants have fireplaces, and covered walkways are built around the park. Occupying an area of about 140 acres, its attractions include Phantom Manor (its version of the Haunted Mansion), Space Mountain: Mission 2 and Disneyland Railroad.

    Tokyo DisneySea—Tokyo, Japan

Said to be the most expensive theme park ever built at 335 billion yen, the Tokyo DisneySea also has the record of being visited by 10 million guests in the shortest time since opening. 307 days after its opening on September 4, 2001, it posted 10 million visits. The park has seven areas, or “ports of call” as they are called in the park; they are Mediterranean Harbour, American Waterfront, Lost River Delta, Port Discovery, Mermaid Lagoon, Arabian Coast, and Mysterious Island. Its attractions include Journey to the Centre of the Earth, Raging Spirits and Aquatopia.

    Tokyo Disneyland—Tokyo, Japan

Just like Disneyland Park at Disneyland Paris, this park was built after the blueprints of Disneyland in California and Magic Kingdom in Florida. Opening on April 15, 1983, it features seven themed areas: the World Bazaar, Adventureland, Westernland, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, Critter Country and Mickey’s Toontown. Its attractions include Monsters, Inc. Ride & Go Seek, Western River Railroad, Pooh's Honey Hunt, Space Mountain and the Enchanted Tiki Room: Stitch Presents Aloha e Komo Mai!

Disneyland Park at Disneyland Resort—California, USA

Opening on July 17, 1955, this park is the only Disneyland park built under the direct supervision of Walt Disney himself. This is also one of two theme parks built at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, with the other, Disney California Adventure Park opening in 2001. Since its opening it has been under constant renovation (整修) and expansion.

Back in April, Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, took over Twitter for a cool $44 billion. That’s a lot of money, even for a billionaire. However, its appeal isn’t obvious. It has around 436 million users every month, which isn’t nothing—but is still a long way behind Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. It also makes a relatively low profit. Then why would Musk make the purchase?

The answer might be what makes Titter so interesting: what it lacks in profits, size or growth potential, it makes up for in some way. It has an unmatched ability to shape the culture we live in. Twitter’s cultural power is easy to see. Click on any news article, and there’s a good chance that it’s quoting what someone said on Twitter.

What makes the platform significant is its users. Twitter is a bar full of rich people, whereas Facebook is just like the McDonald’s across the street. What Twitter is good at is acting as a global watercooler—a channel for small talk, jokes and informal connections. Because the people hanging out on Twitter are types of great importance and influence, what happens on it can actually affect the rest of the world.

However, its ability to influence the real world has strange results too. What happens on Twitter sometimes can only be known, understood, or appreciated by a relatively small number of people and bear little relation to the “real” world. Recent politics gives us a good example: during a recent debate, the BBC spent ten minutes talking about mean tweets about the candidates’ clothes instead of anything that actually matters.

But in any case, it’s a powerful example of Twitter’s cultural power. This explains why Musk might pay big money for it. Because even if it doesn’t make business sense, if you own Twitter you have a voice in the world’s most important watercooler conversation.

    4. What made Musk want to buy Twitter?

ATwitter’s business potential. BTwitter’s high profits.

CTwitter’s numerous users. DTwitter’s cultural significance.

    5. Why can Twitter influence the world?

AIt gains a big advantage over Facebook.

BIt has important and influential users.

CIt keeps people informed of the latest news.

DIt responds to what happens in the world quickly.

    6. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?

AThe weaknesses of Twitter       BThe threats to Titer’s survival.

CThe contents on the platform.   DThe complaints against social media.

    7. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?

AWho is in charge of Titter? BWhat is Twitter?

CWhy is Twitter so important? DHow is Twitter promoted?

Children’s heavy digital media use is associated with a risk of being overweight later in adolescence. A recent study shows that six hours of leisure-time physical activity per week at the age of 11 reduces the risk of being overweight at 14 years of age associated with heavy use of digital media.

Obesity (肥胖) in children and adolescents is one of the most significant health-related challenges globally. A study carried out by the Folkhalsan Research Center investigated whether a link exists between the digital media use of Finnish school-age children and the risk of being overweight later in adolescence. In addition, the study looked into whether children’s physical activity has an effect on this potential link.

The study involved 4,661 children who reported how much time they spent on sedentary (久坐的) digital media use and physical activity outside school hours. The study indicated that heavy use of digital media at 11 years of age was associated with a heightened risk of being overweight at 14 years of age in children who reported taking part in under six hours per week of physical activity in their leisure time. In children who reported being physically active for six or more hours per week, such a link was not observed.

The study also took into account other factors potentially impacting obesity, such as childhood eating habits and the amount of sleep, as well as the amount of digital media use and physical activity in adolescence. In spite of the confounding (混杂的) factors, the protective role of childhood physical activity in the connection between digital media use in childhood and being overweight later in life was successfully confirmed.

“The effect of physical activity on the association between digital media use and being overweight has not been further investigated in follow-up studies so far,” says Postdoctoral Researcher Elina Engberg. “In this study, the amount of physical activity and use of digital media was reported by the children themselves, and the level of their activity was not surveyed, so there is a need for further studies.”

    8. The subjects of the study were .

Asurveyed three years later after the first one

Bthose who kept sitting and used digital media a lot

C4,661 school-aged children suffering from obesity

Dlacking in sufficient leisure-time physical activity

    9. What does the underlined word “heightened” in paragraph 3 probably mean?

    AMajor       BParticular.    CIncreasing.   DSlight.

    10. What was the focus of the recent study?

ADifferent factors contributing to kids’ overweight problem.

BThe influence of childhood eating habits on children’s obesity.

CThe relationship among kids’ exercise, digital media use and obesity.

DChildren’s academic challenges resulting from heavy digital media use.

    11. What might be talked about in the following paragraph?

AReasons for carrying out further studies.

    BGuidelines for children and adolescents.

CApproaches to solving teens’ weight problems.

DConnections between obesity and physical activity.
