What makes a gift special? Is it the price you see on the gift receipt? Or is it the look on the recipient's face when they receive it that determines the true value? What gift is worth the most?
This Christmas I was debating about what to give my father. My dad is a hard person to buy something for because he never wants anything. I pulled out my phone to read a text message from my mom saying that we were leaving for Christmas shopping for him when I came across a message on my phone. The message was from my father. My eyes fell on a photo of a flower taken in Wyoming and underneath a poem by William Blake. The flower, which was a lone dandelion(蒲公英)standing against the bright blue sky, inspired me. My dad had been reciting those words to me since I was a kid. That may even be the reason why I love writing. I decided that those words would be my gift to my father.
I called back. I told my mom to go without me and that I was ready to create my gift.1 sent the photo of the cream colored flower to my computer and typed the poem on top of it. As I was arranging the details, another poem came to mind. The poem was written by Edgar Allan Poe; my dad recited it as much as he did the other.I typed that out as well and searched online for a background to the words of it.The poem was focused around dreaming, and after searching,I found the perfect picture. The image was painted with blues and greens and purples, twisting together to create the theme and wonder of a dream. As I watched both poems passing through the printer, the white paper coloring with words that shaped my childhood,i felt that this was a gift that my father would truly appreciate.
Christmas soon arrived. The minute I saw the look on my dad's face as he unwrapped those black letters carefully placed in a cheap frame, I knew I had given the perfect gift.

A.His father usually forced him to read poems.
    B. His father was a writer and influenced him much.
    C. His father often recited the literary works to him.

    B. To inform him what Christmas present his father was fond of,
    C. To tell him to go out to select some Christmas presents for himself.
    D. To ask him to accompany her to buy a Christmas present for his father.
26.What can we learn about the writer from the third paragraph?
    A. He described the flower and the picture in his own words on the paper.
    B. He typed the poem by William Blake on top of the picture of the dandelion.
    C. He asked others to write the two poems and printed them on the paper.
    D. He drew the background by hand to the words of the poem by Edgar Allan Poe.
27.How was the writer aware that he had presented the best gift to his father?

Independent living at home is the ideal for every aging person. But a fall or other health threatening incidents can change everything rapidly.
The wearable“panic buttons" introduced in the late 1980s were a great advance. But they only work if people actually wear them and can reach the button in an emergency.Today there are passive wearables that automatically detect falls, and camera-based systems to monitor elder safety.
Coming from a 40-year career in the semiconductor and wireless communication field Rafi Zack decided to find a better alternative.“People aren’t devoted to wearing small devices and camera-based systems are an invasion(侵犯)of privacy,”he points out. “The most challenging aspect is a fall. How fast we can detect a fall matters because the medical situation worsens quickly. Sometimes people stay on the floor for a long time. We have to find out how to solve that problem.
Zack is a co-founder,CEO and vice president of R&Dat EchoCare Technologies which has developed ECHO (Elderly Care Home Observer),a cloud-connected monitor based on radar technology and machine learning.
Because radar sees through walls. one ECHO unit fixed on the ceiling or wall can monitor one person (or two persons. in a future version) in a standard sized apartment in a senior living facility. The device detects falls, breathing difficulties, drowning in a bathtub and other dangerous events. It gives out warnings to potential health worsening conditions by continuously monitoring and analyzing the person's location, posture(姿势),motion and breath. EchoCare tested the device in the United States,Japan, Australia and Israel.ECHO was certified(认证)in 2019 in Japan with the most aging population in the world.
“Bathrooms were the main testing area where about 17.000 deadly accidents happen annually," said SMK Director and Executive Vice President Tetsuo Hara.“Bathroom makers. home security service providers and nursing homes are highly interested in EchoCares solution.”Zack noted,“As more and more elder people live alone as a result of social distancing, there is an increasing need to monitor them without the burden of wearables or privacy-invading cameras."
    28. What can we learn about passive wearables?
    A. People must touch a button to inform an emergency.
B.They have to be fixed in a small apartment.
C.They can discover that someone has fallen.
    D. People invented them in the late 1980s.
29.What does the new device watch out for?
①What the person has for a meal.
②The exact place where the person is.
③When the person goes to sleep or gets up.
④The position in which the person stands or sits.
⑤How the person takes into air and sends it out.
    A.②③⑤ B. ①②④ C.②④⑤ D.③④⑤
30.Why is there an increasing number of people living by themselves?
    A.Due to digital technology.
    B. On account of social distancing.
    C.Owing to their psychological problems.
D.Because of the changing sense of values.
    31. In which column of a website might you find the text?
    A. Politics. B. Tourism. C.Culture. D. Innovation.

On the night of November 25,the treasurer,Jim Chalmers, delivered Labor's first budget since its election win earlier in 2022, and it painted a depressing picture of what the future holds for many Australians, Chalmers said Australia is facing the prospect of a third global downturn in a decade and a half. “This time not a financial crisis or a pandemic, but a war driving high prices and higher interest rates here and around the world, and the risk of another global recession(衰退),” he said.
For the average Australian, the budget signaled higher living costs-with inflation continuing to rise to 7.75 percent by December, according to Chalmers back in July, unemployment expected to rise despite thousands of job vacancies around the country, and energy costs expected to rise 56 percent by the end of 2023
The big announcement from the treasurer was that the government, along with the states and territories, plans to build a million homes starting from 2024.No details were released. That is a noble ambition, but Australia is hard pressed to find the tradespeople(商人)to finish the homes that are being built today, not to mention skyrocketing increases in the cost of materials.
Labor's first budget under the leadership of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese did not include any short-term plans to bring down rental prices or to provide relief for tenants struggling with the cost of living.
Matt Grudnoff, a senior economist and director of the Australia Institute's economics program, said,“How is it that in Australia, one of the richest countries in the world, we have a housing crisis where hundreds of thousands of renters can't afford a roof over thei head? To figure out why rents are rising quickly, we need to look at the broader political problem: we have spent about two decades trying to promote the housing market crazily and we have, unfortunately, succeeded. ”
Australian Council of Social Service CEO Cassandra Goldie said,“We remain deeply concerned for people who have the least and are in chronic financial distress(窘迫)-people who are unemployed, single parents, people with disabilities, students and people on temporary visas."There is not enough in this budget to help them right now, she reveale.
32.How is the third global downturn in a decade and a half special according to Chalmers
    A. It is owing to high prices
    B. It is due to the pandemic.
    C. It is because of an economic crisis.
D.It is on account of lower interest rates.
    33. What does the underlined word“tenant”in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Someone whose job involves skilled practical work.
    B. Someone who pays money for the place they live in.
    C. A poor person of low social status who works on the land.
    D. A person who moves from one place to another to find work.
34.Why did Matt Grudnoff say those words in paragraph 5?
A.Mainly to express the success of former Australia's housing policies.
    B. Mainly to give advice on current Australia's housing policies.
C.Mainly to appreciate current Australia's housing policies
D.Mainly to blame former Australia's housing policies.
35.What can be the best title for the news report?
A.Labor's election win in Australia earlier in 2022
    B. Australians face higher costs as millions need housing
    C. In Australia energy costs expected to rise 56 percent by the end of 2023
    D. Unemployment supposed to rise despite thousands of job vacancies around Australia

M: I would certainly like to buy the suit I saw in the store, but I don't have enough money. w:Well,if you would cut down some of your expenses, you would be able to buy it.

M: Linds, don't you think we should get some new books for Alice?
W:You're right, honey.Alice will turn six in just about two months. She needs some books that are suitable for kids of her age.
M: What about buying the book Frogs for her? It's a short early non fiction book aimed at first graders. It is perfect for early science lessons and inspiring class projects.
W:That sounds like a good book for her.I'll search for it on the Internet.
M: Why not go to the bookstore with Alice this weekend? I'm sure she'll love her time at the bookstore W:That's a good idea.
    (Text7)
    M: Christina!
W:Hey,Roger!Didn't expect to meet you here?
M: What are you doing here? You live in Manchester, don't you?
    W:Yes,that's right,I do. But I'm having a week's holiday here.
    M: What?! Here in Milan?
W:Yes.I'm visiting a friend. What about you? What are you doing here? Having a holiday as well? M:No.not me.I'm working. I'm looking for some new shoe designs for the shop.
W:Oh yes. You are the manager of the shoe shop now, aren't you?
M: Yes,that's right. And it's doing quite well.
W.Which hotel are you staying at, by the way?
M:Well. I'm not staying in Milan any more.I'm catching the train to Florence in half an hour. In fact I must go now. Have a nice holiday. W:Thanks. Bye, Roger.
    (Text 8)
M: What do you think about the guest speaker today?
W: He was great, I an glad we had the chance to learn something fresh and exciting today.
M:I still think last week’s speaker was better. That scientist really opened my eyes to climate change.
w:Well, I guess it depends on what you're interested in. I'm taking computer science so it is very useful to me. You probably just didn't understand what he was talking about.
M:Actually,I did.But after a while,I lost interest,I kept looking at my watch to see how much time was left. Who is coming next week?
W:I heard it's some guy who came up with an idea for solar-powered products. The week after that, we'll get a visit from a famous basketball player.
M: That is more like it!
    (Text 9)
W:The professor asked us a question “Can money really buy happiness?”I think the answer is yes. M:I disagree. Money can't buy you happiness.
W:Look,we spend so much time in our lives trying to make money. We must believe it's going to bring us happiness,
M:Most people don't marry for money;most people don't pursue careers simply for money. So we vote with our feet.
W:But just look at those people with planes, big houses...They have all the toys, and they do look happy. M:A recent survey tells us about the jobs that make people the happiest. They aren't the jobs that pay the most but those like teachers, social workers,firefighters... not necessarily highly paid jobs.
W: As far as I know, quite a number of people who became rich say they have finally found happiness.
M: Now,listen, what about health? Can you buy good health with money?
w:Talking about health,I must point out money can help you keep healthy.Money can give you access to good health care.
    M. Well, if we can't convince each other, let’s agree to disagree.
    (Text10)
W: Most American university students study four years or more to get a college degree.During this time, they are called undergraduate students. When a student completes his course,he earns a bachelor's degree that will help him find a job. Many students stay at university and work for a higher degree,Other students take a job for a few years. Then they quit working, and they continue studying at the university. Those students work to earn higher degrees. They are called graduate students. Graduate students specialize in a particular field of study. They study to become experts in their field. They hope that when they get their graduate degrees, they will succeed in finding interesting jobs with good salaries.
Graduate students are usually too busy studying. Often they have to pay high school fees Some give up studying before they get their degrees. But most keep on working at their studies until they graduate. In today's world, most graduate students don’t regret spending time on their studies. They are finding that things are changing fast. New developments are occurring in all fields For many, graduate study has become a necessity

How are you going recently? Thanks for your e mail last time. I am always fond of American culture. Recently,I am focusing my attention on American festivals.

Since I have never spent the festival in America in person,I know little about it.I would appreciate it greatly if you can tell me something about it. My questions are as follows:How did it come into being? How and when do poople celebrate it? What's its significance?
I hope you can give me assistance with these problems and thank you in advance. Best wishes!
