    设计说明

    由观看地震的图片和谈论在地震中的自我保护引入新课的学习。设置不同层次的阅读理解题目,提升学生的阅读理解能力。朗读短文和谈论在地震中如何自我保护,提升学生的口头表达能力;学习新的语言点,继续学习本模块的新语法,增加学生在词汇和语法上的积累。设置关于在地震中如何保护自己、救助他人的写作训练,提升学生的书面表达能力。

    教学目标

    通过本单元的教学,让学生达成以下目标:

    1. 知识目标

    掌握本单元新单词及短语 earthquake, warn, inside, under, window, keep, clear, keep clear of…, calm, brave, helpful, power

    2. 能力目标

    (1)用正确的语音语调朗读短文,把握短文的结构和细节信息;

    (2)进一步练习运用情态动词can, could, must表示推测

    3. 情感目标

    了解发生地震时在室内和户外不同的自我保护方法,同时,提升自己在灾害面前互相帮助的意识。

    重点难点

    重点短文的朗读与理解;语言点的学习和运用。

    难点运用所学知识进行相关书面表达。

    教学过程

    Step 1 Leading in

    Show some photos of earthquakes to the class.

    T: Boys and girls, earthquakes always happen suddenly. They destroy buildings, roads and bridges. And thousands of people lose their lives during big earthquakes. How do you feel about earthquakes?

    Step 2 Warming up

    1. Work in pairs. Look at the pictures and ask and answer the questions. (Activity 1 on page 98)

    (1) Show the pictures to the class.

    (2) Look at the pictures and elicit what is happening in each picture.

    (3) Tell the students to describe each picture by asking and answering the two questions in pairs.

    2. Look at the title of the passage and think about what to do in an earthquake. (Activity 2 on page 98)

    (1) Encourage some students to say what they will do in an earthquake.

    (2) Ask some questions to guide them to think about what people should do in an earthquake.

     

    Step 3 Fast reading

    1. Play the recording and ask the students to check their answers in Activity 2. Allow them to read the passage.

    2. Read the sentences. Decide if the following actions are right (√) or wrong (×). (Activity 4 on page 99)

    (1) Ask the students to read the sentences and decide if the peoples actions are right or wrong.

    (2) Ask them to check the answers with their partners.

    Step 4 Careful reading

    1. Read the passage and then complete the sentences according to the pictures.

    (1) Ask the students to complete the sentences on their own.

    (2) Elicit the answers in full sentences from the class.

    3. Answer the questions. Use the words and expressions in the box. (Activity 5 on page 99)

    (1) Get the students to go through the words and expressions in the box.

     

     

    (2) Ask the students to write down the answers to the questions on their own.

    (3) Ask them to compare the answers with their desk partners.

    (4) Elicit the answers from the class.

    Possible answers:

    1 It’s difficult to warn people before an earthquake.

    2 We should stay inside. 

    3 We should keep calm and be brave.

    4 We shouldn’t stand near power lines or under street lights in the street.

    (5) Ask the students to ask and answer the questions in pairs.

    4. Read the passage.

    (1) Ask the students to follow the recording to read.

    (2) Ask them to read the passage on their own.

    (3) Encourage some of the students to read the passage. Correct the pronunciation and pause errors.

    Step 5 Post-reading

    Step 6 Language points

    1. …so it is difficult to warn people about them. ……所以很难给予人们预警。

    warn动词,意为“警告;告诫”。

    (1) warn sb. about / of sth. 警告/告诫某人关于某事

    His father warned him about his schoolwork.

    他的爸爸警告过他注意学业。

    (2) warn sb. (not) to do sth. 警告某人(不要)做某事

    Our teacher warned us not to play football in the street.

    我们的老师告诫过我们不要在大街上踢足球。

    (3) warn sb. against (doing) sth. 警告某人不要做某事

    The guide warned us against touching the plants.

    导游告诫我们不要碰那些植物。

    2. inside在室内

    inside有多种词性,其反义词是outside

    (1) inside作副词,意为“在里面;向室内”。

    We looked inside, but saw nothing. 我们向里面看了看,但什么也没有看到。

    (2) inside作名词,意为“里面;内部”。

    We painted the inside of the house. 我们把房子的内部粉刷了一下。

    (3) inside作形容词,意为“里面的;内部的”。

    The inside walls of the house are clean. 房子的内墙很干净。

    (4) inside作介词,意为“在……里面”。

    Someone inside the room called for help. 屋子里有人在求救。

    3. Keep calm, especially when you are with other people.

    保持镇静,尤其是当身边还在其他人的时候。

    keep此处作连系动词,意为“保持;留在”,后面常接形容词作表语。

    keep calm 保持镇静     

    keep quiet 保持安静   

    keep healthy 保持健康

    keep的其他常见用法:

    keep (on) doing sth. 一直做某事

    keep sb. doing sth. 使某人一直做某事

    keep+宾语+形容词  使……保持某一状态

    keep away from 远离;不接近

    keep clear of 不和……接触

    4. Be brave and be helpful. 要勇敢,乐于助人。

    (1) 本句是一个祈使句,以be动词原形开头。

    Please be quiet. 请安静。

    Be polite! 要讲礼貌。

    (2) helpful形容词,意为“有用的;提供帮助的”。

    Horses are very helpful animals. 马是非常有用的动物。

    [拓展]

    -ful是一个形容词后缀,可以跟在某些名词之后构成相应的形容词。

    help + -ful =helpful

    care + -ful = careful

    thank + -ful = thankful

    beauty + -ful = beautiful

    Step 7 Writing

    1. Work in pairs. Do the following research. (Activity 6 on page 99)

    (1) Make a table on the board.

    (2) Tell the students to talk in pairs about all the places they think are possibly safe and dangerous both inside and outside the school.

    (3) Ask them to work in pairs to complete the table above.

    (4) Encourage some to share their ideas.

    2. Write some instructions about what to do in an earthquake. (Activity 7 on page 99)

    (1) Ask the students to work in groups, talking about what to tell everyone to do and what not to do in an earthquake.

    (2) Tell them to read through the examples and write their own instructions individually.

    (3) Ask some students to share their instructions.

    Step 8 Homework

    1. Read the passage.

    2. Talk with your partner about what to do and what not to do in an earthquake.
