I have a two-and-a-half-year-old who, after being attacked(攻击)by a wild bird, and being jumped on without warning by some very excited but harmless baby dogs, is now afraid of birds and dogs. However, the lack of rainfall has led to the driest conditions in 40 years in parts of Somalia and Ethiopia.

What Is a Garden without Birds?
Watching a bird feeding helps many people connect with nature and relax themselves. But fewer people know that birds are also the best way of reducing the number of pests (害虫)in their garden.
You do not have to be a bird expert to get pest-control effects that will help your garden. 36 The answer includes using some plants to feed insects(昆虫),which will attract hungry birds. They could be different kinds of plants that provide berries or seeds all year. The Audubon Society ’ s Native Plants Database is an excellent source of bird-friendly plant suggestions for your area.
37 In the cold winter weather food is in short supply. As autumn leaves fall to the ground, place them under trees to attract insects to feed the birds. And as the leaves break down, they will enrich the soil to make spring plants grow better.
Set a bird feeder in the garden. 38 To avoid spreading diseases that can make birds sick, provide only enough seeds to last a few days, and clean the feeder at least twice a month.
Choose high-quality seeds high in fat and protein, like unsalted peanuts or black-oil sunflower seeds. 39
Place the bird feeder in a different place regularly to avoid the build-up of waste seeds and bird droppings on the ground.
And avoid using chemical poisons (毒药)to kill pests. 40 Pests that eat or touch the poisons can be eaten by birds, which can be killed as a result.
A. Young birds love to eat insects.
B. You do not necessarily kill pests immediately.
C. Choose one that can be easily cleaned.
D. Leave plants out for birds to eat in winter.
E. All you need to do is create a bird-friendly environment.
F. It can be hung in a feeder designed to keep out other wildlife.
G. Birds flying south need to store energy to prepare for their end-of-season trips.

This morning I went shopping and in a surrounded area where the shopping trolleys(购物车) are housed, I saw a young man who appeared very troubled. He was thin, dirty and very much alone. I went over to see if he was OK and asked if I could get him something. He said he was OK and that he didn91 want anything.
Oh,my heart went out to this man who appeared to have a mental(精神的)illness and to be homeless. He was so tired and he looked very sad. His feet were in worn shoes. He had a small backpack, a cap, a pair of well-worn runners and a can of coke with him.
While shopping I kept an eye on him to see if he’d moved away or was still there. As he hadn’ t moved on, I bought him a sandwich, a couple of bottles of water, some bananas, muesli bars and some cheese and put them in a bag for him.
As I gave the bag to him, I sensed he was astonished at the simple act of kindness. He said, “You didn’t have to do that for me”,to which I answered “I wanted to. ” I spoke to him again as I was returning my trolley and he was clearly mentally unwell but I took the time to listen to him.
He introduced himself as Nathan and I introduced myself to him. I hope Nathan felt a little bit of love and human kindness today in a world where many people like him are ignored(忽视),and given up. I, m sure Nathan never expected to be where he was now when he was growing up.
I won’ t forget Nathan easily. His sad brown eyes, his tiredness and my short connection with him today touched me deeply. I wonder what situations have brought him to his present state. I came to know his past experiences.
