China has cmpleted its hme-grwn BeiDu Navigatin(导航) Satellite System (BDS) with the successful launch f tw mre BDS-3 satellites, 19 in all, and has started prviding services t cuntries participating in the Belt and Rad Initiative (BRI) since the end f 2018. The BDS, which will cmpete against the US’ Glbal Psitining System (GPS), will prvide high-precisin, reliable psitining, navigatin and timing services anywhere in the wrld by the end f 2020.
The Belt and Rad Initiative is an ambitius effrt t imprve reginal cperatin and cnnectivity in a trans-cntinental range. The initiative aims t strengthen infrastructure(基础设施), trade, and investment links between China and sme 65 ther cuntries. It is als expected t increase Beijing’s influence in these cuntries.
“This is a key step fr the BDS develping frm a Chinese hme system t a reginal and then a glbal navigatin system,” said Yang Changfeng, chief designer f the BeiDu system. China plans t launch anther 11 BDS-3 satellites between the end f 2018 and 2020. China develped the BDS thrugh a unique technlgical apprach, cntributing Chinese wisdm t the thery and cnstructin f internatinal satellite navigatin systems.
Altgether 18 BDS satellites have been sent int space in 2018, making this year the mst intensive launch f the BDS satellites. They imprved their wrk efficiency by refrming the management prcess.
