A week later, Liam asked Joel to play catch with him outside and he agreed. However, when the boys started playing, Joel was missing most of the catches since he couldn’t run around. Later that night, Liam kept thinking about what his mother had said at the dinner table last week. He thought of all the ways he could help Joel and then realized the best option was to buy an electric wheelchair, which would allow Joel to move around without his grandma’s help, to play catch and do other tasks independently.
“How will I get an electric wheelchair for him? It must be so expensive! ” Liam was thinking hard when he came up with an idea of setting up a charity contest at school to raise funds. To his delight, many teachers, students and their parents took part in the contest. The money in the donation box was enough to buy Joel the latest electric wheelchair. Thanks to it, Liam and Joel continued playing catch and Joel even attended school. Eventually, Liam made more friends and never had to eat lunch alone, not even when Joel skipped school.

M: I think it’s better to try different food plants.

W: So, we are finally moving to our new house. You’ll be happy to be leaving this place. As you said, it’s far too small.

W: Hi, Todd! This is Gayle Harper. Do you remember me from high school?
M: Hi, Gayle. Of course, I do. You were our class president.
W: I still am! That’s why I’m calling. We’re organizing an event for our class. It’s a chance for all of us to get together again. We can remember the old times and talk about what’s happening in our lives now. Would you be interested in attending?
M: Count me in! When will it be held?
W: In March. If you give me your email address, I’ll send you more information.
M: Great, thanks!

M: Today we welcome Mary Jones to our show.
W: Thank you.
M: Now Mary, you are about to do an amazing thing. You are going to row a boat alone across the Atlantic Ocean.
W: That’s right. We finished testing the boat on Monday. She’ll be taken to the port on Wednesday, ready for the journey the next day.
M: It’s crazy, isn’t it?
W: Ha-ha, a lot of people say that, so I suppose you are right.
M: One woman rowing thousands of miles alone. Didn’t you think of taking someone with you?
W: Well, the original plan was for three of us to go. Then it was down to two, and finally just me.
M: Do you enjoy your own company?
W: Well, I’ll have my teddy bear Billy with me. He protects me on all my adventures. Plus, radio and a good GPS map.

W: Hello. 4421.
M: I’ve got a hold of you at last. I’ve been trying to reach you all morning.
W: There’s something wrong with the telephone. What’s the matter?
M: There’ve been some changes to the email I sent.
W: OK. Wait a moment, I’ll get a pen and some paper so I can pass on the information to Ron. He’s gone to the sales department, but he’ll be back here to have a meeting soon. OK. I’m ready.
M: There’ll be 10 more people attending the show, so you’ll need more copies of the report to hand out. Please make up the difference before we leave for the Wilton Hotel.
W: Sure, I’ll tell him. And how are we getting to the Wilton Hotel?
M: There’s a regular bus service from the station, but I think it might be safer for us to take a taxi. It shouldn’t cost much.
W: Can’t we walk? I mean it’s not far.
M: Well, I guess we can…OK. Please pass the information to Ron and see you later.
W: OK, bye.

The Academy Awards are annual awards that honor the highest achievements in cinema.
Although the official name of the ceremony is the Academy Awards, it is most commonly referred to as the Oscars. Since 1929, they have been one of the most watched television events of the year. There are over 7000 members in the Academy Awards as of 2018. Together, they vote who should win in the 5 major categories: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Screenplay. To qualify for the ceremony in late February, films must open in California between January 1st and midnight of December 31st the previous year. The award itself is a statue of a golden man holding a sword and standing on a wheel of film. Academy rules state that the winners are allowed to refuse the award, but they are not allowed to sell it. Although it is an American awards show, anyone from any country can win an award. Chinese-born director Ang Lee has won the “Best Director” award twice. Although he almost won for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), he did for his films Brokeback Mountain (2005) and Life of Pi (2012).
