Step 1 Lead-in
T: Hello, boys and girls. Last class we talked about different countries and we’ve got to know that Eddie’s favourite home is the one next to the biggest restaurant. Today, let’s go on to talk about different homes around the world.
Step 2 Word study
1. Show pictures and learn the new words
T: When we talk about homes, we often think of the word “house”. Some people live in houses. But many other people, especially in the crowded city, live in such buildings. We call it “flat”.
T: We can often see buildings with many flats in the centre of city or town.
2. Learn different parts of a home
Follow a butterfly to different parts of a home and talk about the functions of these parts.
T: Now, let’s go near a house. Look, there is a big garden in front of the house. How beautiful! Here is a lovely butterfly. It wants to have a visit to the house. Let’s follow it.
T: It’s the living room. We can also call it a sitting room. What do we usually do in the living room?
T: It’s the dining room. What do people do in the dining room?
T: Where has the butterfly gone? Oh, it’s in the kitchen now. What is the kitchen for?
T: It’s a nice bedroom. Do you have your own bedroom? (Yes.) Oh, you are so lucky. You have your own bedroom. You don’t need to share your bedroom with others. (No.) Who lives in the bedroom with you? (My brother.) Oh, that means you share a bedroom with your brother.

1. Lead in three different kinds of homes around the world
T: Nowadays, many people are using smart mobile phones. They make communication much easier. For example, we often use “we chat” to communicate with our friends. Simon has some foreign friends. They use “we chat” to tell Simon about their homes. They are Neil, Anna and Stephen. Neil sends a video about his home. Anna sends a period of speech sounds about her home. And Stephen sends Simon some nice pictures and a short article about his home. Which one would you like to learn about first?

T: Hello, boys and girls. Last class we talked about three homes from different countries. They are Neil’s, Anna’s and Stephen’s homes. Today, let’s go on to learn more about the three homes.

In this sentence, we use “15 miles from London” to modify “a town”. “a distance + from someplace” or “a distance + away from someplace” means “距离某地……的”. Please complete this sentence, “I study in a school ____________ (距离5公里远的) my home.” Put this sentence into English, “我家离学校5公里远。”
T: What is special about Neil’s house? It has a beautiful garden. Neil lives in a big house with a beautiful garden. Here “have” and “with” both means “有” in Chinese, but “have” is a verb while “with” is a preposition. Please complete these two sentences. “Stephen’s home ____________ eight rooms. Stephen lives in a large house ____________ eight rooms.” Translate this sentence, “Anna住在一套有着一个漂亮起居室的公寓里。”
T: Where does Anna live? She lives in a flat in the centre of Moscow. What does the phrase “in the centre of …” mean? Do you know how to say “在市中心”? We can say “in the centre of (the) city” or “in the city centre”. Please complete this sentence, “我就读于镇中心一所学校。I study in a school ____________.” And what about this sentence, “驾车去市中心可不是个好主意。It’s not a good idea ____________.” Please pay attention to the preposition in this sentence.
T: Does Anna have her own bedroom? No, she shares a bedroom with hesister. “share something with somebody” means “与某人分享某物”. Please complete the sentence. “—Oh, no, it’s raining now. I have no umbrella with me. —Don’t worry. You can __________.”
T: Does Stephen have his own bedroom? Stephen has his own bedroom. Or, we can say “Stephen has a bedroom of his own.” “one’s own + n.” means “ n. + of one’s own.” Put the Chinese into English, “你该学会有自己的想法。”

2.Group work. Ask the students to think out words about furniture and write them down. Then ask the students to write the words on the blackboard.

2. Listen again and label the things in Part A1 using the words from the blackboard. Write each word beside the thing in the picture in Part A1.
Step 3 Writing
1.ask the students to read the email from Amy to Neil, and fill in the blank with the words in the box.
2.Read this email to each other and explain the main points and the difficult points.
Step4 Speaking up
- Ask the students whether they like Neil’s home or not. And tell them that many people like to have a big house. Now Simon is talking with Daniel on the phone.
- Ask the students to listen to the dialogue between Simon and Daniel. Try to find out why Simon is very happy now.
- Listen again and answer several questions: Where is Simon now? What is his new home like? What’s his new telephone number?
- Listen to the tape and read after it. Then ask the students to read and remember it.
- The students work in pairs to find out useful expressions. List them on the blackboard.

Step 5 Making up dialogues
1.Pair work. The students make up their own dialogues using the useful expressions on the blackboard. For less able students the teacher can give them some situations or a model to help them.
2.The students practice their own dialogues for a while. Then, ask some pairs to act out in the front of the classroom.

划分音节的方法:
元音是构成音节的主体,辅音是音节的分界线。
a. 两辅音之间不管有多少个元音,一般都是一个音节。如:bed 床,bet 打赌,seat 坐位,
b.两元音字母之间有一个辅音字母时,辅音字母归后一音节,如:stu'dent 学生,la'bour 劳动。
c.有两个辅音字母时,一个辅音字母归前一音节,一个归后一音节,如:let'ter 信,win'ter 冬天。
d.不能拆分的字母组合按字母组合划分音节。如:fa‘ther 父亲,tea’cher 教师。
单词的发音灵魂是元音,掌握这一点就不难了。
方法是这样的:从单词的左边往右边看,以一个元音加上其左边的辅音为一个音节。如果该元音前面没有辅音,那它就是独立音节。
