If you're looking for a unique adventure, the Space and Aviation Center (SAC) is the place to be.The Center offers programs designed to challenge and inspire with hands-on tasks and lots of fun.
More than 750,000 have graduated from SAC,with many seeking employment in engineering, aviation, education, medicine and a wide variety of other professions. They come to camp, wanting to know what it is like to be an astronaut or a pilot, and they leave with real-world applications for what they're studying in the classroom.
For the trainees, the programs also offer various ways to earn merit badges(荣誉徽章).
• Space Exploration badge—build and fire model rockets, learn about space tasks and try simulated(模拟) flying to space with the crew from all over the world.
• Aviation badge—learn the principles of flight and test their operating skills in the cockpit(驾驶舱) through the Aviation Challenge Program.
• Wilderness Survival badge—learn about water- and land-survival through designed tasks and their search and rescue of "downed" pilot.
With all the programs, teamwork is key as trainees learn the importance of leadership and being part of a bigger task.

It was bad enough when COVID-19 closed schools in Philadelphia, US, in March. Like a lot of students, Makyla Linder,16, found herself getting bored. So she started watching baking videos and shows on TV and online. Soon, she started baking on her own.
Cupcakes and chocolate-covered strawberries were her first creations.
"I tried them on my friends when they came to my house," Linder sad. "I also tried them on my family. They said my creations were good."
For most children, that would have been enough. But Linder had bigger ideas. She asked her mom—what if she started selling her baked goods?
With the help of her mother, Linder got more baking supplies and equipment. She started taking orders online. More people started hearing about her business. Linder also started giving out business cards to make her company more well-know.
She also improved her baking as time went on. She researched new recipes (食谱) and learned good baking skills. She now sells chocolate-covered cookies, chocolate apples and banana pudding. She has some customers who have returned to her several times. They say her prices are good. She charges $15 for a dozen cupcakes or cake pops.
When school reopened in September, Linder had to focus more on her studies. "I wanted to do both, but I understand that school is much more important right now," she said. However, she still watches cooking shows to get new ideas for her business.

Born in Potsdam (in the Kingdom of Prussia) in 1821,Helmholtz was one of the 19th century's most knowledgeable scientists, whose name turns up in the histories of multiple scientific fields and specialties. As a youngster,he had an interest in physics, but that seemed a financially unwise career choice. He went to medical school and studied physiology ( )instead, because he was drawn to others who promoted the point that physiology should be based on the principles of chemistry and physics, not the vital forces" that had been popularly emphasized previously.
After earning his medical degree,Helmholtz served as an army surgeon before becoming professor of physiology at the University of Konigsberg.During that time,he composed a groundbreaking paper on the conservation of energy, which made him a good reputation in science community. His main argument is that all science can be reduced to mechanics. It is emphasized that Newtonian mechanics and Lagrangian mechanics are mathematically equivalent ( ), so a force can be measured by the Laplace method in terms of the energy transferred by the force or the work done by the force. All of this energy is conserved. While at Konigsberg ,he studied the nervous system ,optics (光学)and acoustics (声学),especially with regard to the physiology of the senses. Then he moved on to the University of bonn as professor of anatomy (解剖学)and physiology.
After some time at the University of Heidelberg, where he became interested in philosophy,in 1871 he was awarded the physics chair at the University of Berlin. At last he could focus on physics, emphasizing the importance of the principle of least action for explaining physical phenomena. He also explored the branches of Maxwell's new theory.By this time,he was recognized as one of Germany's premier scientists, until his death in 1894
8. Why did Helmholtz choose to study physiology? ______
A. He made the choice for economic difficulty.
B. He would like to make himself have more skills.
C. He preferred physiology to chemistry and physics.
D. He was attracted by a different viewpoint.
9. What made Helmholtz popular among scientists? ______
A. His degree in medical science.
B. His talent in chemistry and physics.
C. His paper on the conservation of energy.
D. His achievements as an army surgeon.
10. What can be inferred about Helmholtz from the last paragraph? ______
A. He was a famous philosopher.
B. He proved Maxwell's new theory.
C. He was a physics professor at Konigsberg.
D. He devoted his rest life to physical research.
11. Which words can best describe helmholtz? ______
A. All-round and determined. B. Energetic and cautious.
C. Knowledgeable and brave. D. Humorous and courageous.
D
"Eating together" is a statement that doctors use regularly when they talk with families about maintaining normal weight.Children who eat regular family meals tend to have lower rates of obesity.A new study takes a look at why.
A team led by Jerica Berg asked the families of 120 children to record eight days of meals.Berge's team sorted the interactions occurring at the table into two broad groups—those relating to the emotional atmosphere at the meal, such as how much the family members seemed to be enjoying the time together, and how many uncomfortable silences occurred—and those involving food specially, such as how many unpleasant feelings emerged from discussions about food, and how much the parents controlled what and how much children ate.
Children who were overweight had family meals that included more negative emotional interactions compared to children who weren't overweight.Their meals tended to have a warmer, more communicative atmosphere. For example, these children were encouraged to eat foods to get stronger or run faster, while heavier children experienced more negative pressures including threats and being made to feel guilty about those who can't afford to eat three meals a day.If parents talk constantly throughout the meal about food, and lectured the children about homework or attempted to control what the children ate,the youngsters were also more likely to be heavy. Also, the researchers found heavier children tended to have shorter meals.
In the meantime, the current data suggests that simply sitting down at the same table at the same time isn't enough to influence obesity. And it's up to family doctors to help families understand how to take full advantage of breaking bread together.
12. What were classified into two groups by Berge's team? ______
A. Feelings emerging from discussions about food.
B. Features of family meals influencing weight.
C. Emotional atmosphere during the meals.
D. Conversations happening during dinner.
13. What did parents with overweight children not do at the table? ______
A. They told the children to eat to grow healthier.
B. They talked with the children about homework.
C. They tried to take control of food that children ate.
D. They asked the children to finish meals quickly.
14. What may the author talk about in the following paragraph? ______
A. Listing ways to cook delicious meals.
B. Showing how families diet in a healthy manner.
C. Giving reasons of why children are overweight.
D. Introducing ways to make the most of eating together.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text? ______
A. How obesity spreads across family members.
B. How dining with parents affects obesity in kids.
C. Why parents should eat together with children.
D. Why more children are becoming overweight.
