Like a good cheese, wine or a pair of wellworn blue jeans, some things get better with time. For me, Anne Lamott's essay named Shitty First Drafts can also be grouped into this __1__.
I can still hear the laughter when our high school English teacher __2__ it over two decades ago. At first, her nod to this classic essay was __3__ in favor of the fact that the elegant, notquite elderly __4__ of our learning had just __5__ a bad word into her classroom lecture like it was no big deal. As she went on to explain, I __6__ her point about the writing process, but the sticking point for me was the catchphrase (名言) she'd borrowed and used to __7__ our attention.
Years later, a college professor advised me to give Lamott's Bird by Bird a __8__. I came across that famous first draft phrase again. This time around, I encountered a howto book on writing that left behind only insightful, __9__ and humorous bits of wisdom. How __10__ it is to finally hear from a professional writer like others, she also experiences the same sorts of __11__ as a college student working at an essay assignment!
As a fulltime writer, now I rely on __12__ to pay bills and put food on the table. When those words come less __13__ and I struggle to find my daily rhythm, I make a point of reminding myself where all __14__ writing begins. The ones who make it look easy are often those who've __15__ some interest, ability or natural talent with a lot of __16__, efforts, and struggles. And __17__ drafts. If the best of the best need to write several versions of any given piece to shape __18__ material into a product which is worth a look, then the rest of us need to __19__ the writing process to work for us, too.
Begin with the “uncooked” material, and I remind myself again. Shape it, mold it and put in the work. Believe in the process __20__ you will get there.,

Test 1
1.答案与解析:D 根据上文中的“Like a good cheese... with time”和该空前的“also”可知,此处指的是Shitty First Drafts和上文提到的事物一样,都是一个类别。
Shitty First Drafts。refer to“提到;谈及”。
13.答案与解析:D 根据空后并列的“I struggle to find my daily rhythm”可知,有时候文字很难推敲。
Test 2

9.答案与解析:A 根据下文中的“Marianne and I went in 10 directions”可知,作者和朋友做好准备按各自的方向继续前进。move on“继续前进”;give up“放弃”;help out“帮助……

post“邮寄,张贴,(在因特网上)公布信息”;recommend“推荐”;discover“发现”。
14.答案与解析:D 根据上文中的“She is living with breast cancer”以及下文中的“she is... our classroom”可知,两句话之间存在让步关系,所以用still。
16.答案与解析:A 根据上文中的“we talked like two schoolchildren”以及下文中的“it was 46 years later”可知,两句话之间是让步关系,所以用even though,表示“虽然,尽管”。
19.答案与解析:C 根据上文中的“I can ... its trees”以及本句中的“I think of those...
20.答案与解析:A 根据上文中的“She is living with... in our classroom”以及“her inspiring philosophy (哲学) of life”可知,Marianne虽身患癌症,但选择微笑面对,所以她在作者心里是坚强的。
