Sports are meant to be fun. If there is a sport you really enjoy but you aren't sure if you can make the team, try out anyway.
Sometimes, There Is an "I" in Team
Some sports, like lacrosse or field hockey, require every person on the field to be on the same page.
Sports like tennis, track and field, cross-country, swimming, gymnastics, and wrestling are all sports where one person’s record is made into team scores.
If Organized Sports Aren't Your Thing
If you're not the biggest fan of organized sports, where you have to follow someone else's schedule and rules, many other fun and exciting options are out there for you.
Climb to the top. Did you love scaling trees and walls when you were younger? Rock climbing offers participants one of the best all-around workouts possible. As a rock climber, you work your hands, arms, shoulders, back, stomach, legs, and feet!
Take a hike (and bring your bike). Hiking and biking are two great ways to learn about nature while getting your heart rate up. If you're going for a whole-day hike, you should bring someone who is experienced and trained in hiking.
Water world. The water is the perfect place to give yourself new challenges. There are lots of water activities such as swimming, canoeing, kayaking(皮艇), fishing, rowing, sailing, wakeboarding, water skiing, windsurfing, and even surfing.
Find Your Inner Self
Many activities can be relaxing. The two activities strengthen you physically and mentally:
Yoga can improve flexibility, strength, balance, and patience. In addition to the physical benefits, many people who practice yoga say that it reduces anxiety and stress and improves mental clarity.

More than 300 students from overseas Chinese families celebrated this month the completion of their training at a Chinese culture winter camp with new skills and knowledge about China.
The mostly English-speaking students from the San Francisco-based Central Chinese High School in America took to the stage to show their newly-acquired skills in traditional Chinese culture, such as paper-cutting, clay modeling, knot-making, ethnic group (少数民族)dancing, and recitation(背诵) of ancient poems in Chinese.
The two-week camp provided them with lessons about Chinese culture by 12 Chinese teachers chosen from 10 schools in East China's Jiangsu province.
Ju Hua, leader of the Chinese teachers' team, says: "In about 11 days, the Chinese teachers taught more than 300 kids from overseas Chinese families to learn how to make traditional handicrafts unique (独特的)to China, including paper-cutting, the playing of traditional Chinese musical instruments and Chinese kung fu."
Ju says that the training at the 2019 Winter Camp of Chinese Culture Wonderland, co-organized by China's Jiangsu province and the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association in San Francisco, provided the students with a good opportunity to experience in person the greatness and charm of traditional Chinese culture, which will help them eventually become "ambassadors" of friendly exchanges between China and the United States.
"The two-week-long camp, though short, was a fruitful training for the kids, who previously had little knowledge about Chinese culture, but got new information about the country where their parents came from," Cai says. "I believe they will have a better idea about Chinese culture after their training at the camp and develop new understanding about China."
Grace Ou, a student from the school, says that she had little knowledge about Chinese culture before, but the winter camp gave her a deeper insight into Chinese culture that goes back thousands of years.

Children who were born in the past 20 years will never know a world without smartphones or the internet.
Today, experts are arguing whether smartphone and internet use by children is bad.
Adam Pletter, a child psychologist in Bethesda, Maryland said that there is a clear relationship(关系) between increased digital (数码的)time and increased anxiety and attentional challenges for all people, especially children and teenagers.
Researchers found one in four children had "problematic smartphone usage" such as neglecting chores to be on it or anxiety if the phone wasn't available. Teenage girls struggled the most with this.
People are designed to look for information, and social media and games satisfy us. The internet does not end. There are always more amazing things to watch. This has an influence on developing social skills and mental health.
In the United States, 53 percent of children aged 11 own a smartphone, and by the age of 12, 69 percent of them own their own mobile device(设备), according to a report by Common Sense Media. In China, more than 90 percent of teenagers up to the age of 18 access the internet through a mobile phone. And 85 percent of all teens use social networking site WeChat.
Jordan Shapiro, an assistant professor at Temple University said, "As a parent, I am always nervous. I recognize that changes in technology represent even larger cultural, economic and political changes. But deep down I know my kids will be fine ...”
Suggestion by WHO
The World Health Organization advised in 2019 that children under one year old shouldn't be exposed to an electronic screen, and those between the ages of 2 and 4 shouldn't have more than one hour of " screen time without movement" each day.
Parents should resist monitoring and blocking potential harm, says Pletter. Instead, he advises that they "set enforceable limits aimed at teaching children the importance of self-regulation so these children can be the future adults they need to be". Pletter said it's important that parents are mindful of how they use their own cellphones because children learn by observing(观察) them.
27. The increased digital (数码的)time may lead to ______________.
A. accidents B. health problems
C. bad relationship with parents D. anxiety and attentional challenges
28. Why do we use social media and games so often?
A. To find amazing information.
B. To watch funny videos.
C. To practice learning skills.
D. To hand in homework.
29. What is Paragraph 6 mainly about?
A. Ways to make use of smartphones and the internet.
B. Smartphones and the internet are bad for health.
C. So many teenagers are using smartphones and the internet.
D. Mental problems caused by smartphones and the internet.
30. What is important for parents according to Pletter?
A. Monitoring.
B. Spending less time on smartphones.

Like Santa Claus, David Evans, a famous chemistry professor from the Beijing University of Chemical Technology also has "magic" of his own. He attracted Chinese youngsters with videos about his chemistry experiments. He has more than 2.8 million fans on Chinese short-video streaming platform Kuaishou.
On Sunday, Evans was showing his color-changing experiments to groups of elementary and middle schoolers at Beijing's Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution, the main venue of this year's National Science and Technology Week, and home to 410 science exhibitions.
Science week, first held in 2001, is the largest, longest and most participated (参与)in annual science performance in China. More than 330 million visitors are expected to take part in about 21,000 exhibitions and tours from May 19 to 26.
"Science experiments can be very fun, but what's more important is to let children ask why it happened," Evans said. "Not all children who saw my videos will become scientists. But a few will go the extra mile and do their own experiments to satisfy their curiosity. This is very important for scientific thought to grow."
At the lunar exploration section(探月区), Sang Ruipeng, a 12-year-old student from Beijing Xishiku Primary School, was showing a small robot that he helped build and code(编程). He said he hoped to create machines that would help man mine(开矿) resources on the moon for future.
He said. "If something terrible happens to Earth, the moon will also likely be affected. So we must think further, and use the moon as a starting point to travel deeper into space in search of more planets to live on."
Sang said many of the scientific achievements featured at the main venue can be very advanced and hard to understand, "but they are very interesting and inspiring, and they give me cool new ideas for improving my rover."
Zhang Qiang, a teacher that teaches young teens about robotics and coding, said children are naturally curious and events like science week can bring more opportunities for them to intimately interact with science.
"Building robots can teach valuable skills such as logic, hands-on ability and creativity," he said. "A nation's march toward becoming a technological powerhouse must start by empowering the children, and letting them learn and use their knowledge in meaningful ways."
Fu Jinyu, a 13-year-old student from Beijing Guangqumen Middle School, said she is "fascinated to see technologies from the textbook coming to life and benefiting (使……受益)people".
"The exoskeleton(外骨骼) used to help disabled people to walk is especially cool," she said. "Our country is also becoming cleaner with new advances in green technologies, and people are also becoming richer thanks to new crops and farming methods that help lift farmers out of poverty."
Igor Perepichka, an organic chemistry professor from Northwestern Polytechnical University in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, said, “ It is very important to transfer knowledge and let the next generation of young kids be excited about science," he said. "After all, they will be driving scientific development in the following decades."

36-year-old Joey Chestnut won the Hot Dog Eating Contest with a world record of eating 75 hot dogs in 10 minutes in Brooklyn, in New York City, on July 4, 2020.
The Hot Dog Eating Contest started by Major League Eating (MLE) has been on for decades. There were about 35 million viewers online in the US and Canada this year.
For coronavirus safety, the 5 eaters stood at a nine-meter-long table, compared to the typical 15. All the eaters wore face masks right up to their first bite.
Chestnut started competitive eating in 2005 while he was a university student in California. His first major victory came that spring when he wolfed down three kilograms of fried vegetables in 11 minutes and 30 seconds. He qualified (具备资格)for his first hot dog-eating contest two months later and ate 32 hot dogs.
By 2011, Chestnut began to focus full-time on training, perfecting the skills pausing his fast eating with short drinking of water.
