    The Amazing Penguin Rescue
In the summer f 2016, the ship MV Treasure sunk, creating an il spill. Thirteen hundred tns f fuel il were flwing right in the middle f the African Penguins’ habitat. Sn the il cvered abut 20,000 penguins. Withut swift help, the seabirds wuld have n chance f survival. Vlunteers were shwing up by the thusands and I als tk part in what was the largest animal rescue peratin ever.
A warehuse was turned int a rescue center near the habitat and hundreds f pls were built t hld abut 100 iled birds each. When walking int the center, I culdn’t believe my ears. I had expected t walk int a chrus f hnking and squawking(尖声叫). Instead, the center sunded like a library. The penguins were dead silent. My heart ached fr the painful birds. Cleaning them all seemed like an impssible task. But we had t carry n like dctrs in an emergency rm. There was n time fr dubt. Cleaning il ff a penguin wasn’t easy. Even with mre than 12,500 vlunteers, it tk a mnth t bathe all 20,000 birds at the center.
While vlunteers were busy bathing the iled penguins, anther crisis(危机) was develping. Oil frm the spill had started mving nrth. Tens f thusands f penguins were in the il’s path. But we already had ur hands full with 20,000 recvering birds. If any mre birds were iled, we wuldn’t have enugh resurces t save them.
One researcher came up with an idea: What if the penguins were temprarily mved ut f harm’s way? Experts decided t have a try. Vlunteers runded up the penguins and released them 500 miles away. The hpe was that by the time the seabirds swam hme, the il wuld be gne. The plan wrked! Anther 20,000 penguins were saved.
The entire penguin rescue tk abut three mnths. Mre than 90% f the iled penguins were successfully returned t the wild. Lking back n the rescue, I am still amazed by the wrk f the vlunteers. What I culd hardly believe was that we accmplished an impssible task.

Cffee is an essential part f Italian culture and since arriving here ver six mnths ag, I have definitely drunk a lt f it!
Of curse, cffee is als very ppular in the UK but cffee culture in Italy is a cmpletely different stry. In Italy, when yu rder a cffee in a cafe r bar, yu are presented with a tiny, bitter espress. This is nrmal cffee fr Italians and they are nt s interested in the huge cffees that we drink in the UK. In additin, while take-away cffee is extremely ppular amng the British, it is nt very cmmn at all in Italy, especially in nn-turisty areas. Generally, Italians prefer t drink their tiny cffees while standing at the bar and,fr many, this shrt break is an imprtant part f their day.
Typically, breakfast in a bar in Italy invlves a cffee and a pastry. I have been attracted by the lvely cafes in the Italian twn I'm living in. These cafes sell all srts f muth-watering pastries, either plain r filled with cream, chclate, jam r Nutella, as well as delicius cffee. Cappuccins are very ppular at breakfast time and, fr me, a creamy cappuccin and a pastry full f Nutella is the perfect way t start the day. I think it's nice t head t a bar t grab a cffee and pastries fr breakfast befre wrk and it's luxury t take mre time t enjy such a breakfast at the weekend.
Finally, I have fund that cffee in Italy is s much cheaper than cffee in the UK. Nrmally, an espress r a macchiat(an espress with a small amunt f milk added) csts arund a eur and a cappuccin abut 1.50! They are small, f curse, but this means that in Italy it is pssible t g ut fr cffee regularly withut breaking the bank.
    1. What des the authr intend t tell us in Paragraph 2?
    A. Espress is very ppular in Italy.
    B. Italians prefer small cffees t large nes.
    C. Cffee culture in Italy is very different frm that in the UK.
    D. Italians have mre time spent in cafes than the British peple.
    2. The underlined wrd “pastry” in Paragraph 3 prbably is ________.
    A. a cntainer t prvide creamB. sme attractive fruit
    C. a pwder t be mixed with cffeeD. a dessert served fr breakfast
    2. Which f the fllwing best describes cffee in Italy?
    A. Drinking cffee in cafes is expensive.
    B. Cffee is nt allwed t be taken ut.
    C. Italian cffee is mainly imprted frm the UK.
    D. Cffee ften cmes alng with ther fd as breakfast.
    4. What is the authr’s attitude twards Italian cffee?
    A. Psitive.B. Disapprving.C. Dubtful.D. Uncertain.
    D
Garbage cans are nt magical penings. Garbage des nt disappear when yu thrw it in a can. Yet, the average American thrws away abut 1,600 punds f waste each year. If there are n magical garbage fairies, where des it all g? There are fur methds f managing waste: recycling, landfilling, cmpsting, and incinerating. Each methd has its strengths and weaknesses. Let's take a quick lk at each.
Recycling is the prcess f turning waste int new materials. Fr example, used paper can be turned int paperbard, which can be used t make bk cvers. Recycling can reduce pllutin, save materials, and lwer energy use. Yet, sme argue that recycling wastes energy. They believe that cllecting, prcessing, and cnverting waste uses mre energy than it saves. Still, mst peple agree that recycling is better fr the planet than landfilling.
Landfilling is the ldest methd f managing waste. In its simplest frm, landfilling is when peple bury garbage in a hle. Over time the practice f landfilling has advanced. Garbage is squeezed(挤压) tgether befre it is thrwn int the hle. In this way mre garbage can fit in each landfill. Large liners are placed in the bttm f landfills s that pisnus garbage liquid desn't get int the grund water. Sadly, these liners dn’t always wrk. Landfills may pllute the lcal water supply. Nt t mentin that all f that garbage smells hrrible. Nbdy wants t live next t a landfill. This makes it hard t find new lcatins fr landfills.
Because f all the negative attentin that landfilling has received, interest in cmpsting has grwn. Cmpsting is when peple pile up rganic matter, such as fd waste, and allw it t decmpse. The prduct f this decmpsitin is cmpst. Cmpst can be added t the sil t make the sil richer and better fr grwing crps.
One thing that is easier t d is burning garbage. There are tw main ways t incinerate waste. The first is t create r harvest a fuel frm the waste, such as methane gas(沼气), and burn the fuel. The secnd is t burn the waste directly. The heat frm the incineratin prcess can bil water, which can pwer steam generatrs. Unfrtunately, burning garbage pllutes the air. Als, sme critics wrry that incineratrs destry valuable resurces that culd be recycled.
Usually, the cmmunity in which yu live manages waste. Once yu put yur garbage in that can, what happens t it is beynd yur cntrl. But yu can make chices while it is still in yur hands. Yu can chse t recycle, yu can chse t cmpst, r yu can chse t let smene else deal with it. The chice is yurs.
    1. Why des the authr mentin magical garbage fairies in the first paragraph?
    A. T creatively supprt his argument with evidence.
    B. T pint ut that garbage desn’t disappear by itself.
    C. T make the language mre attractive t please readers.
    D. T draw attentin t different kinds f garbage thrwn away.
    2. What can we learn frm the passage?
    A. Sme think recycling is a waste f time.
    B. Incineratin may destry recyclable resurces.
    C. Finding new lcatins is the fcus f landfilling.
    D. The purpse f a cmpst pile is t make sil rich.
    3. Accrding t the passage, landfilling _______.
    A. invlves burying garbage in a hleB. reduces the hrrible smells
    C. squeezes garbage tgetherD. prtects grund water
    4. Which f the fllwing culd be the best title fr this passage?
    A. Magic: Bringing Back What Was Once Lst
    B. Deal with the garbage: Which is Best fr Yu?
    C. Methds f Waste Management: Advantages and Disadvantages
    D. D Yur Part: Hw t Save the Earth by Recycling and Cmpsting

故填be banned。
故填which。

故将the改为a。

故将but改为and。
