(2022·辽宁·大石桥市教师进修学校九年级期末)In most parts of the world, many students help their schools make less pollution. They join “environment clubs”. In an environment club, people work together to make our environment clean.
Here are some things students often do. No-rubbish lunches. How much do you throw away alter lunch? Environment clubs ask students to bring their lunches in boxes that can be used again. Every week they will choose the classes that make the least rubbish and report them to the whole school! No-car day. On a no-car day, nobody comes to school in a car, not the students and not the teachers! Cars give pollution to our air, so remember: Walk, jump, bike or run. Use your legs! It’s lots of fun!

(2022·河北保定·九年级期末)Plogging (拾荒慢跑) is a sport that combines (结合) running with picking up junk. It started as an organized activity in Sweden around 2016 and spread to other countries in 2018, following increased concern about plastic pollution.
Plogging has been so popular because it is simple. All you need is a big bag. It helps you have the feeling of getting fit while supporting environment protection. By adding regular squats (下蹲) to pick up junk and carrying weight to running, we can believe they are good for our health.
Running and good targets have always gone hand in hand—just think of all the marathon runners who run to raise money to help others. But there couldn’t be a more popular way of keeping fit than plogging. We need to encourage more people to join in activities like plogging and Plastic Patrol (巡逻).
Plogging isn’t the first fitness activity to combine running with a good cause. Here are some of our favorites:
·Good Gym
The idea behind Good Gym is simple: go for a run, visit an elderly person, have a chat and some tea, and run back.
·Guide running
Guide runners volunteer their time to help blind people get fit and active. By linking themselves together, the blind people can feel safe while both work up a sweat(忙得满头大汗).
·Cycling for the homeless
Start-up Stuart Delivery and the Church Housing Trust worked together last year to bring clothing and healthy food to the homeless. All the food and clothes are mostly sent by bike, so those who send can keep fit while helping the homeless.
11.In the plogging activity, you can run and _________ at the same time.
A.throw junk B.listen to music
C.pick up rubbish D.increase pollution
12.Many people like plogging because it is _________.
A.difficult B.easy C.clean D.fashionable
13.Which of the following is not the activities that can combine running with a good cause?

(2021·广西·贺州市平桂区教育科学研究所九年级期末)You might not think much about where your garbage goes. But now you might want to know. On July 1, Shanghai introduced a new garbage-sorting policy (垃圾分类政策). People there need to put different kinds of garbage into different bins (垃圾桶). Other cities in China will do the same soon.
Garbage sorting is a big problem because there is too much garbage these days. It is bad for our home—the earth. In fact, we can make use of some garbage again. But first, we need to sort it.
For example, if you put an old battery (电池) into the “ harmful waste” bin, people can use it to make new batteries. But if you don’t, the battery will end up somewhere else. Then, it will pollute the environment.
Garbage sorting and recycling around the world
Germany: There are big machines in supermarkets. You can put bottles in the machines and get money back.
Japan: A truck playing music comes to people’s doors to pick up their garbage. There are eight or more kinds of garbage. If you sort any of them wrong, you will get a notice on your door.
Indonesia: People can take buses for free if they give plastic bottles to bus stations. An-hour bus ride costs three large bottles.
Four kinds of garbage in Shanghai
Recyclable garbage includes paper, books, plastic items and glass bottles. Harmful garbage includes lamps, batteries and other things with harmful chemicals (化学品). Wet garbage usually comes from the kitchen, such as food and vegetables. Dry garbage is anything you cannot put into the other three bins, pens and towels, for example.

(2021·广西·贺州市平桂区教育科学研究所九年级期末)My mother only had one eye. And because of this, I never wished her to show up in my school, being afraid that my classmates would find out I had an ugly mother. One day during primary school, I was badly ill. My mother came.
“Scott, your mum only has one eye?” asked some of my classmates. I was so embarrassed.
I wished my mother would just disappear from this world, “My classmates teased me because of you. Why don’t you just die?” I shouted at her, taking no notice of the sad look on her face. My mother just handed me some medicine and left, saying nothing.
At that time, I felt good to say what I always wanted to say, and I didn’t think I had hurt her feelings very much. (2022·湖北·广水市教学研究室九年级期末)In our daily life, we always come to the question “What is the real beauty?” Different people have different ideas.
Last night, I read a true story from the newspaper. It’s about a poor, ordinary-looking old woman. She lived alone, making a living by picking things from rubbish bins. However, she took in(收留) more than ten homeless children and tried to bring them up. Every day she worked from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. In order to make as much money as possible to raise the children and to keep them in school, she even went to a local hospital to sell her blood once a month. She got so weak because of the loss of blood that she sometimes felt sick on her way home. When she was asked why she chose to look after so many children, she smiled and answered, “Oh, I love children and I like to live together with them because they always bring me great happiness.” Though the old woman was poor, she was full of love and rich in spirit. So the local government and people in her city truly respected her.
Maybe you can’t help thinking, “What makes that poor woman so different?” It is nothing else but her inner(内部的)beauty, her true devotion of love without any thought of money. So the real beauty is the beauty in one’s heart, that is, the inner beauty!

(2021·广西·贺州市平桂区教育科学研究所九年级期末)If an American friend invites you to his or her home for dinner, keep in mind these important rules.
First of all, arrive on time (but not early). Americans expect promptness. It’s OK to be ten or fifteen minutes late but not forty-five minutes late.
Second, it is polite to bring a small gift. Flowers or candies are always good. If you take a special gift that is made in your own country, your friend will certainly enjoy accepting that.
Wearing beautiful clothes and a smile are good but not enough. Table manners are also very important. Do not open your mouth to talk when you are eating food. Also, chew(咀嚼) food with your mouth closed. When you want to get food that is a little far from you, do not stretch your hands to reach for it. Ask others to pass the food to you.
After dinner, don’t leave at once, but don’t stay at your friend’s house for too long, either. When your friend seems to be getting tired, tell him or her that you need to leave. The next day, call or write to say how much you enjoyed the evening.
40.What time can you arrive if an American friend invites you for dinner at 6:00?
A.At 5:30. B.At 5:45. C.At 6:10. D.At 6:50.

(2022·山东·济南市天桥区教育教学研究中心中学教研科九年级期末)If you’re traveling to the United States, you need to understand the common way to say hello—a handshake. Friends shake hands. Women, men and even children can shake hands.
Shaking hands also seems simple, but there are some important things to remember. When you shake hands, you must look into the other person’s eyes the whole time you’re shaking hands.
Shake hands strongly. If you give a weak handshake, the other person might think that you’re not kind. They might also feel that you don’t like them or you don’t want to touch them. Shake hands with men and women the same way. If you shake hands with a very old person or a little child, be careful not to hurt them.
Some people don’t know how long to keep shaking. The most common handshake should have three shakes and then you should let go. Don’t worry if Americans shake hands a little longer.
Your handshake is like your smile. It’s special to you. You need to find a comfortable strong handshake that shows what you are like. Because the handshake allows people to touch, the hand should be warm, clean and dry.
Put your hands into your pockets before you shake hands. This will warm them. If you know you’re going to meet someone, wash your hands so they’ll be clean. Everyone gets nervous and your hands may get wet. It isn’t a good feeling for the other person. Again, put your hands into your pockets. This will dry them.

C.Holding their hands for a long time. D.Touching their hands freely.
47.What does the writer tell us in the last paragraph?
A.The secret to keep smile. B.The rules to shake hands specially.
C.The key to show feelings. D.The ways to get hands comfortable.

(2022·浙江金华·九年级期末)You go home from work. You are tired, you want to turn on the TV and watch something fun. Your children want the same. What is better than a cartoon film?
In fact, many cartoon films draw adults’ attention. For example, Anomalisa, a film for adults, has been a huge success. And there is also the chance that adults will love a kid’s film more, for example, The Incredibles. So, what is the reason behind it?
First, a lot of cartoon films are really good. Plenty of gifted people join hands in making films like Toy Story and Ice Age. Screenwriters, programmers and musicians are all working together in order to bring the best result to the big screen. And usually, they succeed.
Also, they bring out the memories of our childhood. Remember the time when you were a child, it was a Saturday morning and you used to turn on the TV and enjoy cartoons? Well, cartoon films bring out that special feeling.
Cartoon films have well written roles facing difficult situations. For example, Woody has to deal with the fact that he may not be Andy’s favorite toy after all in Toy Story. Sometimes the stories are even better than those in adult films. So, it comes as no surprise that adults will fall in love with cartoon films.
Moreover, by watching a cartoon film, we forget the boring life and leave our problems behind for the moment. Who wouldn’t love to have his own personal Baymax (from Big Hero 6) that wouldn’t refuse to hare a hug every time there was sadness? If only our lives could be full of good-natured animals and brave children!

A.telling a story B.giving an example
C.answering a question D.showing a picture

A.To introduce two famous cartoon films.
B.To show adults also like cartoon films.
C.To tell people they are successful cartoon films.

55.According to the passage, why can cartoon films draw adults’ attention?
a.They can relax adults.
b.They are cheap and sometimes free.
c.They are made by many excellent people.
d.They can encourage adults when they have difficulties.
e.They bring back happy memories of adults’ childhood.
A.abcd B.bcde C.abde D.acde

(2022·浙江杭州·九年级期末)16-year-old Bridget Peters writes about her hobby, making soap sculptures. I have an unusual hobby you probably only use it to wash your face or hands, but I make small sculptures out of soap. I’m really good at it these days, having read about it in many different books, and I’ve even got several friends interested in doing it. I didn’t even know people made sculptures from soap until I found a short online film about it by accident and thought it was something I’d like to try.
It’s very popular in Thailand. They often make sculptures of flowers there so I decided to try that. I surprised myself with how good my first sculpture was. I felt more confident about trying other things after my family told me how good it looked. It took quite a long time, and I didn’t really have the right tools, but I enjoyed making it.
After lots of practice, I had my first exhibition (展览) when I was fifteen. It went really well, even though the place where it was held was rather small. I made some nice posters with photos of my works on, and put them up wherever I could. So although very few people had heard of soap sculpture, they could see exactly what it was. The posters worked, because lots of people came.
Lots of people ask me why I don’t try making sculptures using stone or metal. It’s never really attracted(吸引) me, though. I prefer learning by doing instead of going to classes, so I’d love to teach people how to create these kinds of things. Everything I do is small, because soap is hard to work with. Whatever happens, I’m sure I’ll love my hobby for years to come.
57.When did Bridget first become interested in soap sculptures?
A.After visiting Thailand with her family. B.After being praised for her first sculpture.
C.After reading a book about it in the library. D.After watching a video about it on the Internet.
58.How did Bridget feel about the first soap sculpture she made?
A.Worried. B.Upset. C.Surprised. D.Angry.
59.In the future, what might Bridget like to do?
A.Teach soap sculpture to other people. B.Watch more soap operas online.
C.Take some lessons about sculptures. D.Create sculptures out of stone.
60.What would Bridget’s best friend say about her?
A.“Bridget never talks about her hobby much to me or her other friends.”
B.“I was amazed how good the sculptures were at her exhibition last year.”
C.“I think Bridget’s starting to get bored of making sculptures with soap.”
D.“Now Bridget’s got the right tools to make more sculptures with metal.”
(2020·辽宁抚顺·九年级期末)In your school, are you allowed to choose the subjects you want to learn? Of course, the answer is "No" in China.
In America there is a school trying something new. At a high school in Florida, students will be able to choose their own classes. We all know that some students are better at some subjects than others. Some students plan to go on to college, while others don't. They say that giving the students the chance to choose their own classes makes high school more interesting. Others disagree. They think that fourteen-year-old teenagers are too young to know what they want to do in the future.

(2022·重庆巴蜀中学九年级期末)Living robots can reproduce(繁殖) on their own in a dish. This is not a science-fiction movie, but the result of a new research.
Xenobots, a kind of tiny robot, were first created in 2020, using cells(细胞) taken from an African frog. Under the right lab conditions, the cells could get together in their own ways, move in groups and change themselves as a result of their environment. Now, the researchers have found that xenobots can also self-replicate(自行复制).
________ Are they living organisms(有机体) or robots? They are organisms because they are made of stem cells and can reproduce. But they are also robots because they can move on their own and do something physical.
The ability to replicate makes the robots have the possibility to do more things. The Washington Post reported that although now xenobots are not that useful, they have the ability to provide a number of services in the future, from cleaning up microplastics(微塑料) in the ocean to safely sending drugs somewhere in a person’s body.
However the creation of xenobots comes with worries. Some are afraid that future xenobots, especially the ones that live longer and reproduce, could put other living things into dangerous situations.
The researchers think these risks can be dealt with in some way. “If you change the amount of sodium(钠)in that water to be too high or too low, they’ll die, ” Kriegman told The Washington Post. “If there’s a piece of copper(铜) in the dish, they’ll all die. It’s an extremely controllable and stoppable and safe system.”

Traffic lights are red, yellow and green. They are very important signals(信号). Traffic lights are usually placed at busy street corners to help control traffic. Sometimes, they are on streets near schools and shops, too. Most young children are taught what each of the colored lights means, so everybody can stay safe.
The first traffic signals were used for trains. The signals were put alongside railway tracks(轨道). The color red was used to mean “stop” because it warned people of danger. A red light was also the easiest color to see from a distance. Train drivers could see the red “stop” light ahead and had enough time to slow down and stop their trains. A green light was used to mean “take care” and a white light meant “go”.
However, there were many dangerous accidents on the train tracks. Some train drivers sometimes thought a star shining in the night sky was a white light that meant “go” by mistake. So the signals were swapped. The “go” light was changed to green and the “take care” light was changed to white.
During these times, people travelled by train or in carts pulled by horses. Years later, when cars were built, people began to drive them because they could travel much faster than horses. However, the road rules for drivers were not very clear and many people were hurt crossing the roads. Yellow warning signs had to be placed beside the roads to remind drivers to take care and allow people to cross safely.
Today, towns and cities all over the world have traffic lights. Red and green lights match the signals used on the railways. Yellow lights are easy to see, so they are used to warn drivers that they should slow down and prepare to stop.

(2022·重庆巴南·九年级期末)Do you know how ancient Chinese people used to tell time? They used to tell time by looking at the moon at night. Chinese lunar calendar, also called “Nong Li”, is based on the movements of the moon. The new moon appears on the first day of each month and the full moon comes out in the middle of the month. The cycle lasts for about 30 days—a month.
For Chinese people, the moon not only serves as a useful helper, but is also connected with brightness, expressing the beautiful wishes of the Chinese.
