    >视频脚本Isaac Asimv and the Three Laws f Rbtics Isaac Asimv is celebrated as ne f the 20th century’s greatest science fictin writers. Brn in Russia in 1920,he was three years ld when his family mved t the United States. It was by reading the newspapers and magazines sld in his parents’ candy stre that he develped a lve fr the written wrd. Grwing up t becme a prfessr f bichemistry at Bstn University,he divided his time between his teaching and writing. Asimv’s first nvel,Pebble in the Sky(《天空鹅卵石》),was published in 1950. That same year,he began t wrk n I,Rbt(《我,机器人》). This cllectin f shrt stries centers n the idea f rbts being prgrammed with ethics and Asimv’s Three Laws f Rbtics: 1. A rbt may nt injure a human being r,thrugh inactin, allw a human being t cme t harm. 2. A rbt must bey the rders given it by human beings except where such rders wuld cnflict with the First Law. 3. A rbt must prtect its wn existence as lng as such prtectin des nt cnflict with the First r Secnd Law. The Three Laws f Rbtics have inspired the wrk f many ther science fictin writers,as well as real-life pineers f artificial intelligence. Mvie adaptatins f Asimv’s wrks have been made, including I,Rbt and Bicentennial Man(《机器管家》),with his science fictin stries cntinuing t inspire and excite readers t this day.
Cmplete the table t cmpare life n Earth with life n the Mn.
    Wear spacesuits whenever utside.
    Breathe frm an air supply.
    Jump high easily.
    Keep rbts as pets.
Nw read the passage and find ut what life n the Mn is like in the nvel.
A By’s Best Friend Mr Andersn said,“Where’s Jimmy, dear?” “Out n the crater,”said Mrs Andersn. “Rbutt is with him. Did he arrive?” “Yes. He’s at the rcket statin, ging thrugh the tests. I haven’t really seen ne since I left Earth 15 years ag.” Jimmy has never seen ne,” said Mrs Andersn. Because he’s Mn-brn and can’t visit Earth. That’s why I’m bringing ne here. I think it’s the first ne ever n the Mn.” Jimmy was ut n the crater,as his mther had said. His arms and legs were lng and agile. He lked thicker and stubbier with his spacesuit n,but he culd handle the lunar gravity as n Earth-brn human being culd. The uter side f the crater slped suthward and the Earth, which was lw in the suthern sky,was nearly full,s that the entire crater-slpe was brightly lit. The slpe was a gentle ne and even the weight f the spacesuit culdn’t keep Jimmy frm racing up it in a flating hp that made the gravity seem nnexistent
Cme n,Rbutt,” he shuted. Rbutt,wh culd hear him by radi, squeaked and bunded after. Jimmy, expert thugh he was, culdn’t utrace Rbutt,wh didn’t need a spacesuit, and had fur legs and tendns f steel. Jimmy culdn’t g wrng while Rbutt was arund, tripping him when he was t near a rck,r jumping n him t shw hw much he lved him,r circling arund and squeaking lw and scared when Jimmy hid behind a rck, when all the time Rbutt knew well enugh where he was. He heard his father’s vice n his private wavelength . “Jimmy, cme back. I have smething t tell yu.” Mr Andersn was smiling.“We have smething fr yu,Jimmy. It’s at the rcket statin nw,but we’ll have it tmrrw after all the tests are ver.” Frm Earth,Dad?”
“A dg frm Earth,sn. The first dg n the Mn. Yu wn’t need Rbutt any mre. We can’t keep them bth,and sme ther by r girl will have Rbutt.”He seemed t be waiting fr Jimmy t say smething, then he said,“Yu knw what a dg is,Jimmy. It’s the real thing. Rbutt’s nly a mechanical imitatin,a rbt-mutt . That’s hw he gt his name.” Jimmy frwned . “Rbutt isn’t an imitatin,Dad.” “Rbutt’s just steel and wiring and a simple psitrnic brain. ” He des everything I want him t d,Dad. He understands me.” “N,sn. Rbutt is just a machine. It’s just prgrammed t act the way it des. A dg is alive. Yu’ll see the difference nce he gets here.” Jimmy lked at Rbutt,wh was squeaking again,a very lw,slw squeak that seemed frightened. Jimmy held ut his arms and Rbutt was in them in ne bund.
Jimmy said,“What will the difference be between Rbutt and the dg?” It’s hard t explain,” said Mr Andersn,“but it will be easy t see. The dg will really lve yu. Rbutt is just adjusted t act as thugh it lves yu.” But,Dad,we dn’t knw what’s inside the dg,r what his feelings are. Maybe it’s just acting,t.” Mr Andersn frwned. “Jimmy,yu’ll knw the difference when yu experience the lve f a living thing.” Jimmy held Rbutt tightly. He was frwning,t,and the desperate lk n his face meant that he wuldn’t change his mind. He said,“But what’s the difference hw they act? Hw abut hw I feel? I lve Rbutt and that’s what cunts.” And the little rbt-mutt,which had never been held s tightly in all its existence, squeaked high and rapid squeaks—happy squeaks. (Adaptatin f excerpts frm“A By’s Best Friend”by Isaac Asimv)

    A By’s Best Friend

    In the future
    Mr Andersn,Jimmy’s father
    Mrs Andersn,Jimmy’s mther
    Rbutt,a mechanical dg, Jimmy’s pet
Plt Jimmy’s parents get a dg frm Earth. They want t give it t Jimmy as a pet. attitudes twards Rbutt ·Parents:·Jimmy:Nw talk abut yur attitudes twards the stry.
Jimmy already has a rbt pet named Rbutt. His parents think it wuld be gd fr Jimmy t have a real dg,and that he wuld like it. They want t send Rbutt t anther family. T his parents’ surprise,Jimmy refuses t accept the real dg,because he lves Rbutt and he believes Rbutt lves him t. Fr Jimmy,Rbutt is nt just a mechanical dg,but a real friend.
They think Rbutt is a mechanical imitatin f a real dg.
He lves Rbutt and treats him like a real dg.
1 What are the similarities and differences between Rbutt and a real dg? Similarities: Bth are able t respnd t rders given by human beings. Bth can utrace human beings. Bth can guide and prtect human beings. Differences: They have different appearances. A real dg is a living creature, while Rbutt is a machine. A real dg lves human beings as a result f its nature, while Rbutt is just adjusted t act as thugh it lves human beings.
    Think & Share
2 Is there any freshadwing f Jimmy’s final decisin? Find clues in the reading passage. Yes,there is. At the beginning f the stry,we knw Jimmy has never seen a real dg. It als seems that he spends a lt f time with Rbutt. Jimmy plays with Rbutt enthusiastically, shuting“Cme n, Rbutt.”In the middle f the passage,we are tld that “Jimmy culdn’t g wrng while Rbutt was arund”, indicating that Rbutt prtects Jimmy well.
3 What ther sci-fi nvels abut rbts can yu think f ? Share ne with the class. The Last Questin by Isaac Asimv is by far my favrite stry f all thse I have written. After all,I undertk t tell several trillin years f human histry in the space f a shrt stry and I left it t yu as t hw well I succeeded. I als undertk anther task, but I wn’t tell yu what that was lest I spil the stry fr yu. It is a curius fact that innumerable readers have asked me if I wrte this stry. They seem never t remember the title f the stry r(fr sure)the authr, except fr the vague thught it might be me. But,f curse, they never frget the stry itself especially the ending. The idea seems t drwn ut everything—and I’m satisfied that it shuld.
4 The tw reading passages in this unit shw us different aspects f technlgy in the future. Which f these d yu mst expect t encunter in yur lifetime? I expect t encunter ne rbt dg such as Rbutt. I think such kind f dg is f much benefit and help t mankind. Fr example the“rbtic guide dg”will help supprt visually impaired peple wh are unable t have a real animal.
    □ Learning t learn Freshadwing is when the authr gives a clue as t what is t cme later in the stry. This ften appears at the beginning f a stry,r a chapter, and helps the reader develp expectatins abut the cming events in a stry.
Wrk in grups. Give a talk n whether it is pssible t have a real friendship with a rbt. 1 Answer the questins t help t frm yur pint f view. • Why d Jimmy and his parents have different feelings twards Rbutt? Because Jimmy was brn n the Mn,he has never seen a real dg. He has been getting alng well with Rbutt, and thus has develped an affectin fr him. He cannt figure ut why a real dg is better than a mechanical dg,despite his father’s explanatin. While Jimmy’s parents have seen real dgs befre they left Earth. They knw what real dgs lk like. They think Rbutt is just a machine. • If yu were Jimmy, which ne wuld yu chse,Rbutt r a real dg? If I were Jimmy,I wuld chse t wn a real dg,because I need real cmfrt and genuine lve and lyalty frm my pet.

nt... until... 的强调句型构成:It is/was nt was nt until near the end f the letter that she mentined her wn plan. 直到接近信的结尾处,她才提到自己的计划。【误区警示】( 1)until 和 till 通常可以互换,但在句首以及在强调句中只能用until。Until he graduated frm cllege,he lived with his parents.
He waited until/till his mther came back.他一直等到他母亲回来。(wait 是延续性动词)We wn’t start until Bb cmes.直到鲍勃来了我们才会开始。(start 是非延续性动词)(3)nt until... 从句位于句首时,主句用部分倒装。Nt until yu put yur heart int it will yu cncentrate n yur wrk.直到全心投入,你才能专注于你的工作。
句型转换(1)His temperature didn’t return t nrmal until yesterday. (改为强调句)→____________________________ his temperature returned t nrmal.(2)I didn’t cme t myself until ne f my classmates patted me n my shulder. (改为倒装句)→_____________ ne f my classmates patted me n my shulder ___________t myself.单句语法填空(3)It was nt _____________ dusk that they made their way tward the cage.(4)_____________ recently,Anna wrked as a teacher in Japan.(5)He cntinued wrking up _____________ his death.完成句子(6)___________________________ ( 直到我来到这里)that I realized this place was famus fr nt nly its beauty but als its weather.
It was nt until yesterday that

It was nt until I came here
