第二部分 阅读理解 (共两节,满分50分)
第一节 (共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
Healthy, shiny hair is an attainable goal for many people. What you eat can bring luster and strength back to your hair. A balanced diet filled with so-called superfoods like certain fruits and oils treat your hair from the inside out.
Oils
The omega-3 fatty acids in eggs, walnuts, and fatty fish like salmon help make hair shiny. These oils can also be obtained through some vegetable oils or flaxseed oil, but are found in higher amounts in oily fish and eggs. The protein in these foods also helps hair grow strong and healthy. Also found in eggs are B12 and biotin, both of which are essential for healthy skin, nails, and hair.
Avocado
Avocados contain high amounts of vitamin E. Only 2 ounce of a medium-size avocado contains 8 percent of your daily recommended intake of vitamin E. If you don’t like to actually eat avocado, you can make an avocado mask to put on your hair. Vitamin E helps to keep your hair color bright and prevents split ends.
Coconut Oil
The medium-chain fatty acids in coconut oil are used differently by your body than other saturated fats. An added benefit of coconut oil is its ability to make your hair shiny and healthy. Use coconut oil to cook your chicken or seafood, add it to your salad, or put it directly on your hair as a mask. Coconut oil’s anti-fungal agents also help protect against and treat dandruff and other scalp problems.
Vitamin C Fruits
Fruits high in vitamin C, such as oranges, peaches, pineapples, strawberries, and kiwi — help maintain healthy hair and fight against free-radical damage from the environment to protect your hair against pollutants. Make sure to eat lots of fruits high in vitamin C. You can also apply the juices of these fruits directly to your hair by mixing it into your shampoo.
21. According to the passage, eggs contain a lot of essential nutrients needed by healthy hair EXCEPT ________.
A. biotin B. flaxseed oil C. B12 D. omega-3 fatty acids
22. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?
A. Avocados are rich in Vitamin E, which helps keep your hair brightly coloured.
B. Oranges are rich in Vitamin C, which protects your hair from pollutants.
C. To have healthy shiny hair, you can either eat superfoods or apply them to your hair.
D. Coconut oil is high in saturated fats and sugar, which can help treat scalp problems.
23. In which section of a website is the passage most likely to be found?
A. Beauty and skin care. B. Life and society.
C. Food around the world. D. News abroad.
Children are excited to find brightly wrapped presents under the tree on Christmas morning. They can’t wait to open the wrapping and get the toys that were on their wish lists, such as toy cars. But after the excitement wears off, those toys are usually left to the corner of the toy box and the kids are searching for something else to do. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
A study from the University of Toronto found that giving your child experiences as a gift, instead of toys, improves your child’s intelligence and makes stronger parent-child bonds. “Often the focus is only on whether someone likes a gift rather than focusing on a fundamental purpose of gift giving. Knowing that will foster relationships between the giver and the receiver,” said lead researcher Cindy Chan.
Chan suggested that when you are buying a holiday gift or birthday gift, you should buy something that kids can experience with you. This can be movie or concert tickets, a CD from a performance you already saw to keep the memory alive. For example, for kids, a trip to a museum, going ice-skating or a book that the family can read together over and over again are valuable gifts.
It is found that giving your kids too many toys can be counterproductive and make kids at a loss. The best way to make kids happy is to spend time together.
So, if you want happy and intelligent kids, spending time with them and making memories are the best gifts you can give them. That’s not to say that there shouldn’t be any toys but change the focus from getting things to making lasting memories.
24. How do children usually deal with toys after the excitement disappears?
A. They give them to their friends. B. They put them aside.
C. They add them to the wish lists. D. They throw them into the rubbish bin.
25. What should people focus on when buying gifts according to Cindy Chan?
A. The purpose of giving gifts. B. The advantage of giving toys.
C. The excitement caused by toys. D. The gift receiver’s hobby.
26. What did Cindy Chan advise parents to do in Paragraph 3?
A. Give kids well-wrapped presents. B. Do something together with kids.
C. Buy kids as many toys as possible. D. Encourage kids to do sport in school.
27. What is the best title for the text?
A. The pleasure of giving and receiving B. A lesson from kids at Christmas
C. Dude Perfect built on friendship D. Dude Perfect achieved their goal
We all want to be successful in our work. But what happens when our success comes at the risk of losing important friendships? If your friends didn't receive what they were hoping for, your success could make them feel uncomfortable. But does that mean we shouldn't enjoy our achievements in case we displease someone or that we should feel sorry for being successful while others aren't?
Those of us who value friendships might feel embarrassed for achieving more than our friends. But we deserve(应得) our success, and nothing should take it away. Jealousy(嫉妒) is only natural, but it's often unreasonable, too. Your success is probably not connected with your friends' progress, so you shouldn't feel bad about achieving your goals. If your friends stay unfriendly, don't be afraid to keep yourself away from them. You are not responsible for their weaknesses.
On the other hand, your friends may think highly of your recent success while hiding their real feelings. They could be jealous, angry or sad that they are not progressing at the same rate. So, be careful not to talk big. It's a thin line between pride and overconfident, and by crossing the line, you may risk losing team support.
Next time you want to boast about your endof year win, or highclass new office, consider your listeners. Maybe your friends narrowly missed out on a position raising, or experienced pay cuts which meant they didn't get what they were expecting. If your work is on a rising path, it doesn't mean that's the case for everyone.
Perhaps a step forward in your work has meant that you don't spend as much time with your friends as you used to. If you've changed a job. or moved to a new office, take the time to stay in touch with old friends. Don't let that hard work go to waste by losing touch with them.

29. From the second paragraph, it can be inferred that ________.
A. our success will certainly hurt our friends
B. we could enjoy our success
C. friends will surely help us make progress
D. our success is linked to our friends' progress
30. What does the passage mainly tell us?
A. How to avoid hurting a friend.
B. How to keep relationships between friends.
C. How to enjoy success to the fullest.
D. How to share our success with friends.
31. Which of the following is true according to the passage ?
A. We should feel sorry for being successful while our friends aren't.
B. If our friends support our success we should consider their feelings.
C. When we achieve great success,we should make our friends proud of us.
D. When we achieve great success,we also can help friends make progress.
When I was a child, I often saw my Grandma throwing bread that was no longer fresh to birds. Not surprisingly, this attracted few birds. Later on, we discovered bird food at the local store. Feeding garden birds in the UK has come a long way since then. Today, the birds can enjoy many kinds of food: from plant seeds to sunflower hearts and from cakes to meat balls. All this comes at a huge cost of about £200m a year. Sometimes, I wonder if we might be feeding our garden birds better than our kids. But maybe it’s worth it. Our generosity is having an important effect on the behavior and even evolution of these birds.
Take the goldfinch for example. In the 1960s, this was a rare bird. Today, goldfinches can be seen in many gardens. Other new visitors include the spotted woodpecker, which has left its usual woodland for food on bird tables. Evolution is meant to progress slowly: over thousands of years. Yet during the past few decades, the beaks of many kinds of birds have become longer because birds with longer beaks can get more food, and then are more likely to live on.
Actually, the British habit of feeding garden birds goes back much further. During the sixth century, St Serf of Fife fed a robin in his garden; during the winter of 1890, workers in London were seen giving their lunches to songbirds. The real change took place in the 1980s, when a few farsighted businessmen realized that encouraging the British to be more generous to garden birds can help them make money. Therefore, various kinds of bird food and modern bird feeders were produced. As a result, the number of species using garden feeding stations increased very quickly, from about 10 to over 100. Then, in 2005, Springwatch came, which turned our love of garden birds into an entertainment show.
Is bird feeding completely good for birds? Not everyone thinks so. Studies by the Zoological Society of London have shown that by bringing together many birds, bird feeders may help the spread of disease. In Australia, some bird experts believe — probably wrongly — that bird feeding creates a “dependence culture”.
But we shouldn’t forget one major benefit of feeding garden birds — it connects millions of people to the natural world. This is especially important for people who seldom reach the wider countryside. As I write this, there comes some noise outside my window: several birds were singing and flying around in my garden. It’s a sight I could only imagine years ago, when feeding garden birds just meant throwing hard bread to them.
32. What does the author mean by saying the underlined part in Paragraph 1?
A. Feeding garden birds is a huge waste of money.
B. We spend quite a lot of money on the food of garden birds.
C. We should care more for our kids rather than garden birds.
D. Feeding garden birds can bring more joy than feeding kids.
33. Which is the reason behind the fact that many birds’ beaks become longer?
A. These birds have given up traditional woodland. B. Food for these birds becomes richer and better.
C. Longer beaks mean more chances of survival. D. These birds grow faster than ever before.
34. What do some bird experts in Australia think of bird feeding?
A. It is completely good for birds.
B. It may help the spread of disease.
C. It connects more and more people to the natural world.
D. It may reduce birds’ ability to find food by themselves.
35. How does the author feel when he hears bird noise outside his window?
A. Annoyed. B. Pleased. C. Surprised. D. Bored.

Text 10
M: Well, I'd love to share with you my personal opinions on city life and life in small towns. I grew up in a small town until I was 18 and then moved to a big city, so I have experienced the good and bad sides of both. I never thought that I would like living in a big city, but I was wrong. After ten years of living in one, I can't imagine ever living in a small town again. Surely small towns and big cities both have some problems in terms of transport. In a small town, you have to own a car to make life comfortable. You can't get around without one because there isn't any kind of public transport. Big cities generally have heavy traffic and expensive parking, but there you have a choice of taking public transport, which is cheaper than driving. So, if you don't have a car, you'd better live in the city. I also love the exciting life in big cities. I can always enjoy a lot of films, concerts, and other wonderful shows. However, these things are not common in small towns. The final thing I like about large cities is that you can meet different kinds of people. However, you seldom find such a variety of people in a smaller town. I think that living in an area where everyone was just like me would quickly become dull. Of course, safety should be considered, and that's one area where small towns are better than big cities. Still, I would rather be a bit more careful and live in a large city than to feel safe but dull.

This is especially important for people who seldom reach the wider countryside. As I write this, there comes some noise outside my window: several birds were singing and flying around in my garden. It’s a sight I could only imagine years ago, when feeding garden birds just meant throwing hard bread to them.(但是我们不应该忘记给花园里的鸟喂食的一个主要好处——它把数百万人与自然世界联系在一起。
