    考点详解



    主旨大意题是高考阅读理解的主要题型之一, 旨在考查考生对文章大意或者文章中心思想的把握和归纳能力。此类题数量较大,在15个题中约占2-3个。
    ◆主旨大意题的分类
    1. 从考查对象上划分,主旨大意题可分为两种
    ①篇章主旨:针对全文的主题进行提问。主题句出现在首段的居多,其次是末段。
    ②段落主旨:针对某一段或几段的主题提问。主题句可能是段落的首句、末句,也可能需要从上下文中寻
    找或总结。
    2. 考查内容上划分,主旨大意题可分为三种
    ①主题类(内容),考查文章或段落的主旨大意;
    ②目的类,考查文章或段落的写作目的;
    ③标题类,要求考生选出文章的最佳标题。
    ◆设问特点:
    1. 考查全文主旨或段落大意。
    2. 正确选项概况范围大小恰当,主旨判断准确。
    3. 错误选项的特点常常是太大、太窄或者偏离主题,主观臆断。
    4. 常以main idea, best idea, subject, mainly discuss 等词提问。

    文章主题常常可以通过文章的写作方法来体现,有以下五种情况:
    1. 中心主题句出现在文首
    开门见山,提出主题,随之用细节来解释、支撑或发展主题句所表达的主题思想。这是英语中最常见的演绎法写作方式,即由一般到特殊,先提出观点,后举例论证,主题句则出现在段首的写作方法。
    新闻报道通常就采用这种写法。新闻报道的首句通常称为“新闻导语”,“导语”实际上就是主题句,是对全文内容的高度概括。大意题、标题一般可在第一句话找到答题依据。

    2. 主题句出现在文尾
    在细节后,归纳要点、印象、结论、建议或结果,以概括主题。这是英语中最常见的归纳法写作方式,即细节表述的句子在前,概括性的句子居后,主题句则常位于末段。

    怎样给阅读文章整体加注标题
    ——高度概括法
    对文章主旨大意的考察,不仅可以直接以理解段落及文章的主旨大意的形式出现,而且也可以用选择或拟定文章标题的形式出现。因此,选择文章标题,首先可以按照主旨大意的确定方式,先弄清文章的主旨大意,再定标题。
    标题位于文章之首,用来高度概括文章内容,点明文章主题。它是段落中心思想最精练的表达形式。标题可帮助读者迅速推测出整篇文章的主要内容,抓住文章的中心,把握作者的观点和意图。那么如何选择文章的标题呢?
    首先,要考虑标题对文章的概括性或覆盖面如何。一般要求能覆盖全文内容,体现文章主旨。要避免下列三种情况:①概括不够(多表现为部分代整体,从而导致范围太小);②过度概括(多表现为脱离本文章内容的发挥);③以事实、细节替代抽象具体的大意。
    其次,要考虑标题的针对性,即标题范围要恰当,针对性强。要在阅读原文的基础上,仔细考虑所选标题与文章主题是否有密切的关系。既不能太大,也不能太小,太大则中心就不突出,太小也发挥不了应起的作用;精确度高,不能随意改变语言的表意程度及色彩。它可以是单词、短语,也可以是句子。
    再次要注意标题的醒目性,标题的选择要简洁、突出、新颖,标题是文章的点睛之笔,是文章的灵魂和门面。标题的好坏往往影响了文章的可读性,读者常常从标题上决定文章的阅读取舍。故标题一般比较醒目,甚至比较离奇,以此来吸引读者对文章的兴趣。

    August 8, was Earth Overshoot Day. Calculated annually by the environmental advocacy(支持,拥护) group, Global Footprint Network (GFN), it is the day when human has consumed all the natural resources — produce, meat, fish, water, and wood — that our planet can regenerate(再生) in a single year. This means that for the rest of 2016, we will be using natural resources that are impossible to replace.
    For those that are a little confused, it is similar to spending your entire year’s allowance by August and then borrowing money from friends, knowing fully well that you cannot repay the loan. GFN says that the same thing happens in the case of the Earth.
    The date of Earth Overshoot Day varies each year. In an ideal, fully sustainable world, we should only spend what we have. This means that Earth Overshoot Day would fall on December 31, or perhaps even spill into the following year, indicating that we are saving some resources for a rainy day. That did happen in 1961, when we only consumed three-quarters of what the planet produced.
    Unfortunately, the day has been going up rapidly since 2014 when it fell on August 19. In 2015, it was August 13, and this year, the earliest so far — August 8! The only way to sustain this demand would be to have 1.6 earths, which as we all know, is not possible.
    Fortunately, experts say that the situation is not as grim as it sounds. Many countries are already taking steps to reduce carbon emissions, which accounts for 60% of our ecological footprint, by switching to solar or wind-generated power.
    Individuals can also help by eating less meat, walking, biking, or taking public transportation, as well as adopting the three R’s: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. If we all work together, we can help push back Earth Overshoot Day to December 31, or even beyond!

    According to a recent study in the Journal of Consumer Research, both the size and consumption habits of our eating companions can influence our food intake. And contrary to existing research that says you should avoid eating with heavier people who order large portions(份), it's the beanpoles with big appetites you really need to avoid.
    To test the effect of social influence on eating habits, the researchers conducted two experiments. In the first, 95 undergraduate women were individually invited into a lab to ostensibly(表面上)participate in a study about movie viewership. Before the film began, each woman was asked to help herself to a snack. An actor hired by the researchers grabbed her food first. In her natural state, the actor weighed 105 pounds. But in half the cases she wore a specially designed fat suit which increased her weight to 180 pounds.
    Both the fat and thin versions of the actor took a large amount of food. The participants followed suit, taking more food than they normally would have. However, they took significantly more when the actor was thin.
    For the second test, in one case the thin actor took two pieces of candy from the snack bowls. In the other case, she took 30 pieces. The results were similar to the first test: the participants followed suit but took significantly more candy when the thin actor took 30 pieces.
    The tests show that the social environment is extremely influential when we're making decisions. If this fellow participant is going to eat more, so will I. Call it the “I’ll have what she's having” effect. However, we'll adjust the influence. If an overweight person is having a large portion, I'll hold back a bit because I see the results of his eating habits. But if a thin person eats a lot, I'll follow suit. If he can eat much and keep slim, why can't I?

    Some parents will buy any high-tech toy if they think it will help their child, but researchers said puzzles help children with math-related skills.
    Psychologist Susan Levine, an expert on mathematics development in young children the University of Chicago, found children who play with puzzles between ages 2 and 4 later develop better spatial skills. Puzzle play was found to be a significant predictor of cognition(认知) after controlling for differences in parents’ income, education and the amount of parent talk, Levine said.
    The researchers analyzed video recordings of 53 child-parent pairs during everyday activities at home and found children who play with puzzles between 26 and 46 months of age have better spatial skills when assessed at 54 months of age.
    “The children who played with puzzles performed better than those who did not, on tasks that assessed their ability to rotate(旋转)and translate shapes,” Levine said in a statement.
    The parents were asked to interact with their children as they normally would, and about half of children in the study played with puzzles at one time. Higher-income parents tended to have children play with puzzles more frequently, and both boys and girls who played with puzzles had better spatial skills. However, boys tended to play with more complex puzzles than girls, and the parents of boys provided more spatial language and were more active during puzzle play than parents of girls.

    According to a recent study in the Journal of Consumer Research, both the size and consumption habits of our eating companions can influence our food intake. And contrary to existing research that says you should avoid eating with heavier people who order large portions(份), it's the beanpoles with big appetites you really need to avoid.
    To test the effect of social influence on eating habits, the researchers conducted two experiments. In the first, 95 undergraduate women were individually invited into a lab to ostensibly(表面上)participate in a study about movie viewership.     When you were trying to figure out what to buy for the environmentalist on your holiday list, fur probably didn’t cross your mind. But some ecologists and fashion (时装)enthusiasts are trying to bring back the market for fur made from nutria(海狸鼠).
    Unusual fashion shows in New Orleans and Brooklyn have(showcased)nutria fur made into clothes in different styles. “It sounds crazy to talk about guilt-free fur-unless you understand that the nutria are destroying vast wetlands every year”, says Cree McCree, project director of Righteous Fur.
    Scientists in Louisiana were so concerned that they decided to pay hunters $5 a tail. Some of the fur ends up in the fashion shows like the one in Brooklyn last month.
    Nutria were brought there from Argentina by fur farmers and let go into the wild. “The ecosystem down there can’t handle this non-native species(物种).It’s destroying the environment. It’s them or us.” says Michael Massimi, an expert in this field.
    The fur trade kept nutria check for decades,but when the market for nutria collapsed in the late 1980s,the cat-sized animals multiplied like crazy.
    Biologist Edmond Mouton runs the nutria control program for Louisiana. He says it’s not easy to convince people that nutria fur is green, but he has no doubt about it. Hunters bring in more than 300,000 nutria tails a year, so part of Mouton’s job these days is trying to promote fur.

    After years of observing human nature, I have decided that two qualities make the difference between men of great achievement and men of average performance curiosity and discontent.     The game King of Glory, which is produced by Tencent, became the world’s highest grossing game in 2017. However, Tencent, which ranks first in the world for gaming revenue, said in a statement that King of Glory was "supposed to bring joy ... but excessive gaming brings joy to neither players nor their parents".
    It announced that it would limit the daily time for youngsters to play its popular King of Glory game after parents and schools complained the children had become addicted to playing it.     Passage 3
    A futuristic transport system has appeared in Zhuzhou, China. The electric mode of transportation, which features "trackless trains", runs on virtual rail lines and is the world’s "first smart train".
    The new Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit (ART) system first appeared in June 2017. Finally, it’s best being tested. Reports describe the train as a hybrid(混合物), something between a tram and a bus. Each virtual "railway" track is dotted and measures 3.75 meters wide. These guide the train which has rubber tires instead of steel wheels.
    The system has a maximum speed of 70 km/h and can carry up to 300 passengers in its three carriages. The goal is to use the system to improve and speed up public transportation in Zhuzhou. Eventually, the ART system will be expanded to other cities in China. In just 10 minutes, the ART system can be charged and ready to go. When fully charged, it can run for more than 25 km and it is reported to have a lifespan of 25 years. Using sensors, the train collects traveling information and, over time, becomes more efficient in identifying pavement on the roads.
    An additional benefit is that the ART system is much cheaper to build than an ordinary subway. In China, a subway costs approximately 400 million yuan to 700 million yuan per kilometer. In contrast, an electric streetcar(有轨电车) costs 150 million yuan to 200 million yuan per kilometer.
    Believe it or not, conventional automobiles are expected to be canceled.
