It is often said that elderly(年纪较大的) people don't understand youngsters(年轻人) while many believe that children are too young to fully appreciate(欣赏) the wisdom(智慧) of their elders. But in truth, both groups have a lot to learn from each other.
Sister Geraldine Tan runs the St. Joseph's Home for the Aged and Hospice(收容所) in Singapore. It's mainly a facility(机构) for serving the elderly. But not all of its visitors are senior citizens(老年人).
The home also includes a childcare center for about 50 kids between the ages of 2 months and 6 years old. At the center of the home's courtyard(庭院), there is a playground where the elderly can play with the kids. By doing so, they can learn more about each other and get mutual(相互的) respect and understanding.
I think this is quite an interesting idea. For one thing, we live in a world where aging societies are becoming more common. China itself is facing this problem as its population ages. It will be important for young people to be able to understand and care for the elderly in the coming decades(数十年).
Sadly, my own grandparents weren't around when I was little, as they had already passed away. I never got to learn what the world was like through their eyes, or what kinds of challenges they might have faced when they were my age. Their lives will always be a mystery to me.
But I suppose I can still learn from other people of older generations(一代). I might find some of their ideas old-fashioned, and they might believe that my generation's way of thinking is strange or incorrect. But we can still learn from each other anyway.

A.It is actually a childcare center. B.Not every visitor is allowed to go there.
C.It accepts both elderly people and kids. D.The elderly help take care of kids there.
35.What problem does the world face according to the writer?

C.There are more and more elderly people. D.Young people are unable to care for the elderly.
36.With Paragraph 5, the writer tells us that _______.
A.we should cherish(珍惜) our grandparents B.we should see the world in a more traditional way
C.grandparents face many challenges D.grandparents' lives are full of mystery
37.What opinion might the writer agree with?
A.Elderly people don't understand youngsters. B.Youngsters can't appreciate elderly people's wisdom
C.The elderly and the young share little experience D.Different generations can learn from each other
38.What's the best title?
A.Young spirit meets old wisdom B.Show respect to senior citizens
C.Love other's elder as yours D.Human spirit

Abraham Lincoln cared about character, but he was also aware of the importance of having a good reputation. He explained the difference this way — "Character is like a tree and reputation is like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing."
Put another way, your reputation is what people think of you. Your character is what you really are.
It's easy to worry too much about our reputation and too little about our character. Building a reputation is largely a public-relations project; building character requires us to focus on our values and actions.
Character is revealed by actions, not words, especially when there's a gap between what we want to do and what we should do and when doing the right thing costs more than we want to pay.
Our character is shown by everyday actions, including what we say and do when we think no one is looking and we won't get caught.
The way we treat people we think can't help or hurt us (like housekeepers, waiters, and secretaries), tells more about our character than how we treat people we think are important.
Character is not a fancy coat we put on show. It's who we really are. Try to find your nature of character.
39.What is the difference between character and reputation?
A.Character is a tree and reputation is its shadow.
B.Character is what we do to show others, reputation is what others think of you.
C.Character focus on our own actions and thoughts, while reputation is what we want others to think of us.
D.Character is what others think of you, and reputation is what you think of yourself.
40.Which is right about character?
A.Most people care more about their character than their reputation.
B.Building character needs good words and good look.
C.Character is who you really are.
D.Character can only be shown when you are alone.
41.Which situation can tell a person's character better?
A.When you are with your boss.
B.When you are speaking to a waiter.
C.When you are in public.
D.When you are watched by someone.
42.What does the underline word "revealed" mean?
A.遮掩 B.复述 C.披露 D.加强
43.What does the writer mainly want to tell us?
A.We should be aware of our reputation.
B.Believe that you are the special one.
C.Try to find the nature of character.
D.Actions speak louder than words.

Have you ever imagined going inside of a video game? That dream may soon become real. It’s called the “metaverse(元宇宙)”.
The metaverse is a shared virtual(虚拟的)3D world. The word is made up of “meta”, which means beyond, and “verse” which refers to “universe”. The word first appeared in a science fiction book called Snow Crash in 1992. In this story, people wear virtual reality (VR) headsets to see and join the metaverse.
Now, what happens in the book is becoming a reality. Wearing a VR headset, you can meet other people wherever they are. You also can work and play with them. It will feel real because the technology can simulate(模拟)our senses: vision, hearing, touch and even smell.
The metaverse is about creating another reality, another world, that’s as rich as the real world. So, what can you do inside the metaverse? Your location will no longer matter, says VOA News. It means that in the metaverse, people will be connected at all times. You can meet friends from other countries and go on a virtual beach vacation together. You can go to the beach on the moon, or anywhere else you can imagine. Can’t find a friend to play basketball? Jump into the metaverse and find some friends to play with or go to a concert!
Cathy Hack, an expert in metaverse technology, said her son’s first concert was inside a video game. “Although it happened in a video game, it didn’t make it less real for him,” she said.
Perhaps the metaverse will change our idea of what is real.

C.where the word “metaverse” comes from
D.when the book Snow Crash came out
