I prefer to call myself a female footballer, or just a player. I am now twenty-five years old and have been playing since I was seven.

So how did it all start? Well, as a child I was told that “soccer" wasn't a real sport. Back then “soccer" wasn't popular. Also, as a child I was told that girls couldn't be professional athletes; and at the time they were right for the most part because back then there were no professionally-paying team sports for women-least of all “soccer" teams. However,I told them that someday it would become more popular and women would be able to play well. And in the end I was right because football has become one of the fastest-growing sports in America.

Football is especially popular with girls. It may not be very commonplace to see girls, or women,playing in Europe, but in the US you will see the fields filled with girls' teams competing. Certainly, as girls get older, the number of participants decreases, but there're a select few who have a passion and craving for the game.

So what are the major differences between men's and women's football? I'd saythat the big difference is that men play to prove that they are the best. Women, on the other hand, play to prove something to themselves, and are always open to new ideas. When it comes to the game of man versus woman on the pitch， the man is always going to underestimale（低估）the woman. Women take advantage of this and attack hard,play hard, and are usually the first to score. I have experienced this many times. Men think they are better just because they are men, but in the end technical ability and intelligence win. By doingthis, I have made quite a few guys eat their words. I love proving them wrong, and at the same time I get a bit more respect for women footballers.

Being a patient in certain hospitals in the month of July can be dangerous or even deadly. That was the finding of sociology professor David Phillips at the University of California,San Diego,and his student Gwendolyn Barker.

They examined more than two hundred forty-four thousand death records from across the United States. These were from 1979 to 2006. The researchers looked at records that listed “medication（ 药物治疗） errors＂ as the main cause of death.

These medication mistakes included the accidental overdose（过量） of a drug or the wrong drug being given or taken. They also included accidents with the use of drugs in medical procedures or operations. The researchers found that these mistakes caused ten percent more deaths in July than in other months. They found no similar link for other causes of death or for deaths outside hospitals.

But what makes July so deadly? The professor and his student believe they know.They found that this ten percent increase only happened in counties with teaching hospitals. These are hospitals where new doctors known as residents（住院实习医生） come for more training after medical school. Hospitals in the Unite States employ their newest medical residents every year in the month of July. David Phillips and Gwendolyn Barker believe there is a clear link between deadly medical errors and the arrival of new residents. They also examined hospitals without residency programs. They found no unusual increase in deaths caused by drug errors. Medical residents may stay at a teaching hospital for three years or more. They are given responsibilities for patient care. But they are not supposed to work alone. They are directed by more experienced doctors.

The researchers say teaching hospitals should examine the responsibilities of new doctors. They also say the new residents should be supervised more closely and should be taught more about medication safety. The researchers say if hospitals do these things, they will reduce medication errors, as well as the costs related to these mistakes. The findings are published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine.

During the 1980s, hundreds of mysterious cireles appeared in fields all over England. Many people thought they were created by aliens（外星人） from outer space. The most common theory was that they were made by spaceships that flattened the wheat as they hovered（盘旋） over the ground. Before long, books were written on the subject, and tourists flooded to see the circles.

1990 was the golden year for the crop circles. Delgado and Andrews released their book “Circular Evidence"” which became a bestseller. And 'a well-equipped team of Japanese scientists arrived to record circle-making action. The crop circles were more complex.Crop specialists were as confused as ever. But the mystery was about to be resolved.

One day that same year， a group of well-known circle experts set up surveillance（监测） equipment on a hill in Wiltshire. They were eager to record the formation of a crop circle. Amazingly,the next day six circles appeared in a field just below them,without the team recording anything. Worse still,when the researchers entered the circles,they found man-made tools in the centre of each circle, which seemed to prove that the circles had been made by humans.

In 1991, Today newspaper published an account of how two men in their sixties had made the circles. The artists showed how they had created the circles at night with ropes and flat boards. The following year, a circle-making contest was organized with a prize of 3,000 pounds for the winner. The third prize was won by a young American, Jim Schnabel, who was working alone. The results proved that it was a lot easier to produce the crop circles than investigators had at first believed. For many people the phenomenon was definitively over. It was all a hoax （恶作剧）.Or was it？

The thing is that since then, a great many more crop circles have appeared. And despite heavy surveillance (including government and military satellite cameras) no one has ever been caught actually making a crop circle. So, who is still making these circles? And why?
