Imagine a plate holding two strawberries, similar in appearance. One came out of a supermarket box, meaning it was probably harvested before it is fully grown, immediately placed in a forced-air cooling unit, loaded onto a refrigerated truck and driven hundreds of miles. By the time it reached the plate two weeks may have passed. The other strawberry was picked from a garden minutes before being eaten.
The first one will probably not taste good as expected. The second is likely to be sweet; the flavor will remain in the mouth. Supermarket strawberries are not entirely without advantages: they are convenient and available even in winter. But the two berries differ from each other in the same way that hearing music in a concert hall differs from listening to an MP3. The home-grown fruit is an eatable case for planting a home garden.
Planting cool-weather greens can seem meaningless as well-stocked supermarket shelves are available all week. But the same could be said of cooking: cheap and good restaurants everywhere, so why bother to make your own meals?
That attitude fails to understand the basic appeal of gardening: it mistakes the product for the purpose. It is true that a garden can produce tomatoes and carrots that taste like themselves rather than the plastic they are usually packaged in. Finding some favorite vegetables in the shops can take some time, effort and expense; growing your own vegetables, rare or routine, ensures a reliable supply.
On the other hand, a garden, especially in the early years, can also produce frustration. Creative gardeners may plant the wrong crops for their soil. Little animals may have the habit of taking single bites of cucumbers, beans and tomatoes. And even expert gardeners can lose a season’s harvest to uncooperative weather.
No matter. The real joy of gardening is the time spent doing it. The deepest pleasure — as with cooking, writing, bringing up children or almost anything worthwhile —is in the work itself. A gardener’s memories center not around the food produced, but around long summer afternoons with hands in the dirt of a home garden, surrounded by family. To garden is to patiently and lovingly help life grow, in the ground and above it.
4. What might have caused the strawberries to taste different in paragraph 1?
A. Temperature. B. Freshness. C. Appearance. D. Soil.
5. Why does the writer compare the two strawberries?
A. To promote supermarket strawberries. B. To highlight the value of a home garden.
C. To stress the differences between them. D. To provide suggestions on fruit shopping.
6. What does “That attitude” in paragraph 4 refer to?
A. Regarding planting a garden as worthless. B. Favoring what is grown in a home garden.
C. Enjoying food made by yourself at home. D. Understanding what a garden is intended for.
7. How do we find the real joy of gardening?
A. Observe patiently how plants grow all summer. B. Spend time taking care of a garden with family.
C. Make friends with gardeners in the neighborhood. D. Labor lovingly to clean the dirt out of the garden.
B 5. B 6. A 7. B
根据第一段最后一句“By the time it reached the plate two weeks may have passed. The other strawberry was picked from a garden minutes before being eaten. (当它到达盘子时,两周可能已经过去了。另一个草莓是在食用前几分钟从菜园里摘下来的)”,以及第二段第一句“The first one will probably not taste good as expected. The second is likely to be sweet; the flavor will remain in the mouth. (第一个可能不像预期的那么好吃。第二种可能是甜的,味道会留在嘴里。)”可知,草莓的新鲜程度影响了草莓的味道。故选B项。
【5题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“The first one will probably not taste good as expected. The second is likely to be sweet; the flavor will remain in the mouth. (第一个可能不会像预期的那样好吃。第二个可能是甜的;味道会留在嘴里)”以及第二段最后一句“But the two berries differ from each other in the same way that hearing music in a concert hall differs from listening to an MP3. The home-grown fruit is an eatable case for planting a home garden. (但这两种浆果之间的区别就像在音乐厅听音乐和听MP3之间的区别。自家种植的水果是种植家庭菜园的一个可食用案例。)”可知,作者比较这两种草莓是为了突出家庭菜园的价值。故选B项。
【6题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段“Planting cool-weather greens can seem meaningless as well-stocked supermarket shelves are available all week. But the same could be said of cooking: cheap and good restaurants everywhere, so why bother to make your own meals?(种植喜凉的绿色蔬菜似乎毫无意义,因为超市货架上每周都有充足的存货。但烹饪也是如此:物美价廉的餐厅比比皆是,那为什么还要费劲自己做饭呢?)”可知,人们认为种植喜凉的绿色蔬菜和费劲自己做饭是没有意义的,以及第四段“That attitude fails to understand the basic appeal of gardening: it mistakes the product for the purpose.(这种态度无法理解园艺的基本吸引力:它错误地将产出当成了目的)”可知,That attitude指代的是上文中认为种植菜园毫无价值的态度。故选A项。
根据最后一段“The real joy of gardening is the time spent doing it. The deepest pleasure — as with cooking, writing, bringing up children or almost anything worthwhile — is in the work itself. A gardener’s memories center not around the food produced, but around long summer afternoons with hands in the dirt of a home garden, surrounded by family. To garden is to patiently and lovingly help life grow, in the ground and above it. (园艺的真正乐趣在于花时间做它。最深层的乐趣——就像烹饪、写作、抚养孩子或几乎任何有价值的事情一样——在于做这件事本身。园丁的记忆不是围绕着产出的食物,而是有关那些漫长的夏天午后,双手沾满家庭菜园的泥土,家人围绕左右。做园艺活就是耐心地、爱护地帮助那些地里的和地上的生命成长。)”可知,家庭菜园的真正乐趣在于和家人们一起照料菜园。故选B项。
C
Nowadays, we needn’t look far to find something new to watch. So why do so many of us choose to watch films we’ve already seen, even knowing every line of the script?
A survey revealed rewatching films we’ve already seen countless times is common. Some titles were mentioned repeatedly — Back To The Future, Top Gun, and musicals like The Rain. In 2016, a website surveyed 1,169 people to list the 25 most rewatched films — with Star Wars, The Wizard of Oz and The sound of Music taking the top spots.
Finding which movies we watch again and again is easy. Exactly why we do it is less clear. Obviously we love them and think they deserve our attention. One said, “Some films are what I think ‘complete’ and are so familiar that you can stop and start at any point. They are deeply satisfying and you can lose yourself in them.”
While that might explain the second, third, or fourth viewing, what keeps us coming back to a movie when we already know every detail, and there are so many other new films to choose from?
One explanation is that watching something familiar takes up less mental energy. We don’t have to concentrate to work out what’s going on. Instead, we just sit back and relax. When faced with diverse choices, it’s easier to return to an old film that we believe won’t disappoint us.
A psychological phenomenon, “the mere exposure effect” — in which we develop a preference for something familiar — could also be a good explanation. So the more we watch, the more we want to watch.
A 2012 study on cultural “re-consumption” found that rewatching movies can also make us reflect on how we’ve grown a measuring stick for how much our lives have changed. Perhaps that’s one of the biggest reasons why we return to films, to recall not only for a time in history but for a time in our lives.
8. What can we learn from the first two paragraphs?
A. There are few good movies people can choose from.
B. People often watch movies many times to memorize lines.
C. People like to enjoy some movies once and again.
D. Star Wars, Top Gun and The sound of Music are top hits.
9. The reasons why people rewatch films are as follows except that
A. it makes viewers much more comfortable to rewatch the films
B. familiar movies can remind people of impressive experiences
C. viewers find it hard to select a better film than familiar ones
D. it is those well-produced movies that always appeal to viewers
10. What’s the author’s attitude to the phenomenon of people’s rewatching films?
A. Negative. B. Objective. C. Disapproving. D. Cautious.
根据第一段“Nowadays, we needn’t look far to find something new to watch. So why do so many of us choose to watch films we've already seen, even knowing every line of the script? (如今,我们不需要去很远的地方就能找到新的东西来观看。 那么,为什么我们这么多人选择看我们已经看过的电影,甚至了解剧本的每一句台词? )”以及第二段中“A survey revealed rewatching films we've already seen countless times is common. (一项调查显示,重温我们已经看过无数遍的电影是很常见的)”可知,人们喜欢反复欣赏一些电影。故选C项。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“Some films are what I think ‘complete’ and are so familiar that you can stop and start at any point. They are deeply satisfying and you can lose yourself in them. (有些电影是我认为‘完整’,是如此熟悉,你可以在任何一点停止和开始。它们会让你感到深深的满足,你可以在其中迷失自我)”,以及第四段“When faced with diverse choices, it’s easier to return to an old film that we believe won’t disappoint us.(当面对多样的选择,更容易回归到那些我们相信将不会让我们失望的老电影。)” 根据第五段中“One explanation is that watching something familiar takes up less mental energy. We don’t have to concentrate to work out what’s going on. Instead, we just sit back and relax. (一种解释是,观看熟悉的东西消耗的精力更少。我们不需要集中精力来搞清楚发生了什么。相反,我们只是坐下来放松。)”可知,重温电影消耗体力少,观众更舒服,故A项为原因之一。最后一段中“A 2012 study on cultural ‘re-consumption’ found that rewatching movies can also make us reflect on how we’ve grown a measuring stick for how much our lives have changed. (2012年的一项关于文化‘再消费’的研究发现,重温电影也能让我们反思自己是如何成长的,这是衡量我们的生活发生了多大变化的标尺。)”可知,熟悉的电影使人反思,让人想起难忘的经历,故B项是原因之一。使用排除法,C选项“viewers find it hard to select a better film than familiar ones. (观众发现很难选择一个比熟悉的电影更好的电影)”不是人们重看电影的原因,文章没有提到。故选C项。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。通读全文,特别是第二段首句“A survey revealed rewatching films we’ve already seen countless times is common. (一项调查显示,重看我们已经看过无数次的电影是很常见的。)”可知,文章主要说明了一项调查显示,重温我们已经看过无数遍的电影是很常见的,作者客观地陈述了这项关于人们重看电影的原因的调查结果,作者并未发表自己的看法,作者的态度是客观的。故选B项。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)

【15题详解】
根据空前“Take extra vitamin D. The body makes vitamin D when the skin is exposed to sunshine.(当皮肤暴露在阳光下时,身体就会产生维生素D)”可知,本段介绍通过阳光补充维生素D,如果阳光不足,可以直接通过药物补充。故G项“Doctors recommend one pill a day if you get little exposure to the sun(如果你很少晒太阳,医生建议每天服用一片)”符合上下文语境。故选G。

It’s my privilege to make a speech here and share my opinion about how to be an excellent Senior 3 student.
First, stay open to all challenges. No cross, no crown. As for academic success, it lies in a scientific and efficient way of learning. Of equal importance are ties with people around us, which can be improved through effective communication.
A positive attitude, combined with a wise method and good interpersonal relationships, will make a promising Senior 3 student.

When Dr. Henderson was assigning(指定) project mates for his psychology class, I secretly hoped he would pair me with my best friend or at least a classmate I could have some fun with. Above all, I hoped he wouldn't assign me to work with the fiercely competitive, extremely serious fellow who always wore dark clothes and apparently had a personality to match. As fate (命运)would have it, Dr. Henderson very deliberately matched everyone in class and announced that I would be working with the one person in class I wanted to avoid.
I went up to my new teammate and introduced myself. He looked at me as though I weren't there. I felt he treated me as though I would hold him back and probably make him fail to get an A in the course. He wasn't mean or abusive; he just gave me the impression he could do whatever project we dreamed up better if he did it alone.
Needless to say, I didn't look forward to an entire term of being brushed off, but I tried to make the best of it and didn't say anything for fear that I would make things worse.
The project required each team to develop a hypothesis (假说), set up an experiment to test the hypothesis, do the statistical analysis and present the findings. Whatever grade the team received would be shared by both students.
When my teammate and I met to discuss our project, I was uneasy. Here was this challenging student who had a reputation for single-mindedness and good grades—the exact opposite of me. I was outmatched. I actually wanted to drop the class at one point, but stopped short because I didn't want to give him the satisfaction of my chickening out. I decided to stick to it no matter what.
After long discussions we somehow agreed to do a study on the psychological well-being of teenagers. I wasn't sure what it meant exactly, but at least we had a topic.
注意:
1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
2. 至少使用5个短文中标有下划线的关键词语;
3. 结部分分为两段, 每段的开头语已为你写好;
Para 1. We started to meet regularly to draw up our plans.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Para 2. One day I got word that he was admitted to hospital for a serious disease.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
We started to meet regularly to draw up our plans. Though I wanted to share my ideas with him fully, I failed to do so for fear that I would hold him back. I just kept nodding when he asked me whether it is ok to do this way or that way. I thought it was impossible to persuade him into accepting my views, so I didn’t want to waste our time to discuss. I started to wait to leave immediately we arrived at the place, and so did he. I just hoped that the presentation day could come earlier.
One day I got word that he was admitted to hospital for a serious disease. I felt so sorry to hear that and I thought I should visit him in any case. He was a little surprised to see me when I stepped into his ward with some flowers and fruits. I offered to do the rest work of our project and he invited me to share my ideas to perfect it. We began to work as a fine team and finally finished our project on time. Our hard work paid off and Dr. Henderson’s was very satisfied with our wonderful findings. From this project, we also learned the significance of teammates. Just as the saying goes, one person can go far, but a group of persons can travel farther.
