    Pre-reading preparation:

    2. Preview check: Questions on the blank filling exercise.

    1. Skimming:

      a. Skim and match the given pictures to each paragraph.

      b. Listen to the given ideas for each paragraph and match them correctly.

    c. Skim and pick out the words in Word Bank.

    Try to classify the words by their parts of speech.

        Follow the vocabulary learning steps.

    2. Scanning: Read for details.

      a. Paragraph 1 and 2: Read and complete the given table.

      b. Paragraph 3: Read and make mind maps for the work process.

    Pre-task preparation:

    1. Describe the appearance or character of some of the famous people and prompt the Ss to guess who they are.

    2. Prompt the Ss to describe someone they are familiar with, and then take turns to guess who they are.

    While task procedure:

    1. Prompt the students to read the picture attentively. Work in groups to make descriptions of the people and the place in the picture.

    2. Play the recording for the first time: Correct mistakes in the picture.

    3. Play the recording for the second time: Check the result and then take down the words used to make description from the recording.

    4. Check the answer

    5. Explain the meaning of the words listed.

    1. Show pictures of people with different ages, shape, size, height. Let students tell the differences of the age-groups.

    a. young refers to someone up to about 35;

    b.¨ middle-aged refers to someone up to about 55;

    c.¨ elderly refers to someone up to about 65;

    d. old refers to someone above 65.

    2. Tell the differences: build / plump /fat /well-built, slim / lean / thin /skinny / thinly-built..

    3. Follow the instructions in Exercise B1 to match the descriptions with the pictures.

    4. Prompt the students to make some descriptions about their teachers and guess who he / she is.

    5. Show some photos of a famous film star / singer / sportsman¼). Ask them to work in pairs to describe the person on the photo or picture.

    Work in pairs. Suppose S1 is a police officer. S2 is going to phone S1 to tell him/ her about a man who stole something from a shop he / she works in .S1 is going to ask questions and fill in the form below. At last, ask some students to show their forms and read the description and other details.

    Period VII Writing

    • In a few years etc.

    Post-task activities

    1. Ask students to write more articles about traditional skills and jobs

    Work on their own to produce their articles. 

    2. Show some students’ articles to the whole class.
