Everybody has a brain, but not many people know how the brain works. Some people believe that the brain is like the chips (芯片) of a computer. We use it to store files- pictures, language (words, texts, sounds) and so on. Others compare the brain to a huge cupboard with lots of boxes in it. We put information into these boxes and hope to find it again later.
However, our brains are not what we think they are. Look at the picture here. It looks a bit like weeds(野草) in a garden, doesn't it? The picture actually shows a child's neocortex(新皮层)—a part of the brain that commands sight and hearing. It decides what we can see and hear. Normally, these “weeds” grow like a network as the child gets older.
What makes them grow? Learning! “Learning changes the brain. Without learning, nothing changes in the brain.” says Professor James Zull.
The more “networks” we grow, the better we can think and the better we remember. You may wonder what you can do to make the networks in your brain grow better, Professor Zull told us that brain changes most strongly when a) you are interested in and like what you are learning, b) you are in control of what you learn, and c) you get challenging tasks that make you think hard. I totally understand how you are feeling right now.
I think body shaming is really bad to all of us. Because it will do harm to our heart and mind. I think we should not judge other people's looks.
I experienced body shaming in my school before. I was short and a little heavy when I was in Grade Seven. Some of my classmates played jokes on me. They put my pencil case in the high place and I had to jump to get it. It makes me very embarrassed.
