序数词一般在与之相对应的基数词词尾加-th构成，并且可以 简写。但也有些特殊的地方，我们可以通过以下顺口溜帮助记忆： 基数词变序数词容易记，多数基数词后面加-th。 一、二、三变化特殊记，八去t，九去e，ve要用f替。 整十变化须注意，去掉y 后加ie，然后再加-th。 假若遇到几十几，只变个位就可以。 序数词表顺序，一般须用定冠词。
（1）“第一”“第二”“第三”是不规则变化。 如：ne — first (1st) tw — secnd (2nd) three — third (3rd)

（2）基数词八（eight）以t结尾，变序数词时先去掉 t再加-th，即 eight — eighth； 基数词九（nine）以不发音的e结尾，去掉e后加-th，即 nine — ninth； 基数词中以ve结尾的词，要把ve变成f 再加-th。 如：five — fifth；twelve — twelfth
（3）以ty结尾的表示整十的基数词，要先把y变成ie，然后再加-th。 如：twenty — twentieth；frty — frtieth
（4）表示“整十+个位”的数（十几除外），只要把个位数变成序 数词即可。如： twenty-three — twenty-third；fifty-six — fifty-sixth
