Step1 Show a large clock with hands you can move. Point out: the longer hand is the minute hand and the shorter hand is the hour hand. One hour is 60 minutes, half an hour is 30 minutes, a quarter of an hour is 15 minutes, and three quarters of an hour is 45 minutes.
Set the time to 2:00. Ask “What time is it?” Elicit “It’s two o’clock.” Then change to another time 8:00, ask “What’s the time?” Elicit “It’s eight o’clock.” Then write “What time is it?” =“What’s the time?” “It’s … o’clock.”on the blackboard. Then practice with other time .
Set the time to 5:30. Ask the question and elicit “ It’s five thirty / half past five”. Then write “It’s_____ thirty / It’s half past______.” On the blackboard. Practice with other time. Then continue with 6:15, 6:45, etc. Elicit and practice “It’s a quarter to____. It’s a quarter past____.” Write “It’s a quarter to____. It’s a quarter past____.”on the board.
Step2 exercise 1 Ask the students to look at exercise 1. Work in pairs to talk about time by using the time expressions we learn above.
Step2 exercise2 Ask “ what are the three meals of the day?”Elicit breakfast, lunch and dinner。Then say: I have breakfast at 7. What time do you have breakfast? Write “ what time do you have ____? I have _____ at______. on the board. Then practice with lunch and dinner. Then ask them to work in pairs to talk about when they have three meals by asking and answering, using more time expressions.
Step3 exercise3 First give an example, then play the recording ,ask them to listen and draw the time what they listen. Pausing after each dialogue for Ss to draw. Then check in class.
Step4 exercise4 Ask the students to read four sentences to underline key words they think before listening
Play the recording ,ask Ss to listen and write T for true and F for false, pausing after each dialogue if necessary. Then check in class.
Step5 Give an example with dialogue 1 underline the sentences : It’s 10:55. It’s time for bed. Ask Ss if they know the meanings of the two sentences, if they don’t know, explain them. Then write : It’s_______. It’s time for_________. Then ask Ss to do the same thing with the other three dialogues. then ask them to check in pairs , then in class. Then lead Ss to know It’s time for_________.= Time for______. Write “ Time for____ on the board. Then practice with other activities.
Step6 practice Ask Ss to brainstorm activities they do ,write their answers on the board. Then ask them to ask and answer in pairs like this: A: It’s 6:30. It’s time for breakfast. What time do you have breakfast? B: I have breakfast at 6:40. It’s twenty to eight. Time for our first class. What time do you have lunch? B:…. Finally ask several groups to act out in class.
