The United Kingdom is a land of natural beauty and history, with many of its finest attractions discovered through hiking. Now, dust off your boots, plan according to the following routes presented by a survey of senior hikers and an incredible experience will wait for you.
    Wales Coastal Path
Wales is the only country in the world that has an official walking path covering its whole borders. The Wales Coastal Path is a footpath stretching 870 miles from Chester to Chepstow. Walking the whole thing might be demanding, but there are plenty of stretches that can be enjoyed over a day or two.
    Southwest Coast Path
You need a fair amount of annual leave, a casual 52 days or so, to undertake this in one go. The route runs from Somerset all the way to Dorset, via rugged cliffs, cute fishing villages and surfing spots along the coastline. You can surely jump on to any point as you like, but you can't afford to miss all the pubs full of jokes and laughter on the way!
    Coast to Coast Walk
This long-distance trail isn’t official, but popular in the country, taking hikers from the Irish Sea to the North Sea as it rolls into historic Robin Hood’s Bay in Yorkshire. Following local footpaths, the route takes you through three UK National Parks: the Lakes, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors.
    Cleveland Way
You’ll want nine days to folly complete this hike, which explores both the North York Moors and the county’s world-famous coastline. Just make sure you allow enough time to properly enjoy spots like Roseberry Topping hill and pick up a gentle afternoon walk at Whitby’s clifftop church.
1.Who will be more interested in the routes?
A.Explorers in the UK. B.Hiking lovers.
    C.Nature photographers. D.Field researchers.
2.What is highly recommended about Southwest Coast Path?
    A.Fishing villages. B.Surfing spots.
    C.Local pubs. D.National parks.
3.What do the four routes have in common?
A.They include cliffs worth visiting. B.They are official and demanding.
C.They run along the coast. D.They can be completed in a month.

On June 7, 1195, a fiery spinning ball emerged from a dark cloud in the sunny sky close to the London city. An account of this extraordinary moment survives in a chronicle (编年史) between about 1180 and 1199 by Gervase. It would appear that this is the first credible record of ball lightning in England, and much more convincing than the earliest European description, which was believed to be from the 17th century.
Historians discovered the account of what appears to be ball lightning while exploring Gervase’s records of natural events in his chronicle, a treasure of historical details giving insights into medieval culture. They dug through hundreds of pages in Latin and came across this sighting. Gervase’s records of natural events appear within the historical narrative, often with no opening statement, and the account of ball lightning is sandwiched between the events of the changing of kings at that time.
No attempt is made to explain the “marvellous sign” in the sky seen near London. Readers are left to draw their own conclusions. But Gervase appears to have been a sharp-eyed observer and reporter of celestial (天空的) activity. His fanciful description of ball lightning is remarkably similar to modern reports.
For a long time, ball lightning was regarded with skepticism. Although it is now generally accepted as a genuine phenomenon with thousands of reported sightings, there is still no accepted scientific explanation of its origin. Understanding the phenomenon has been blocked by an inability to reproduce the effect convincingly in the lab and partly because of the variations in eyewitness reports. Whatever the case, centuries later, Gervase’s record makes stimulating reading for modern scientists as well as historians.
4.What’s special about the account of ball lightning by Gervase?
A.It’s the most confusing version. B.It’s written in different languages.
C.It’s the earliest acknowledged record. D.It’s the only copy from the 17th Century.
5.Historians spotted Gervase’s account of ball lightning ______.
    A.with ease B.as planned
    C.at the start D.by accident
6.It’s difficult to explain the origin of ball lightning mainly because of ______
A.no qualified scientists B.no accurate reproductions
C.few eyewitness reports D.little support from historians
7.Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.Scientists Search for Explanations for Ball Lightning
B.Gervase Was Found as The Eyewitness of Ball Lightning
C.Account of First Ball Lightning Sighting Was Uncovered
D.Historians Gain a Breakthrough in a Natural Phenomenon
    C
We are often so attracted by the promises of modem digital life that we fail to notice its danger. It’s that feeling of losing control that we get a dozen times a day, from when we get distracted(分心)with our phones in a discussion to when we can’t appreciate a private moment without sharing it with virtual audience.
In my first attempt to get control over my technology use, I set my phone to vibrate rather than ring. Soon after, another problem appeared. The act of continually checking the phone became a habit. I knew then that using only tips to permanently reform digital life is difficult. We should go past the notification settings(通知模式)on our devices or apps and consider the more essential topic of why we use so many apps in the first place. What all of us who are struggling with these challenges need is a technology usage philosophy, something that explains from the ground up which digital tools we allow into our lives, why, and under what conditions.
Cal Newport, a professor of computer science, defines Digital Minimalism(极简主义)as a “philosophy of technology use in which you focus your online time on a small number of carefully selected activities that strongly support the things you value, and then happily miss out on everything else.”
To do so, however, we cannot passively allow the tools and apps provided by the internet age to control how we spend our time or how we feel. Instead, we must take steps to draw the positive aspects of these technologies while sidestepping the negative aspects.
8.What does “its danger” in the first paragraph refer to?
    A.Feeling depressed.
    B.Getting distracted in a discussion.
    C.Giving up private moments.
D.Losing control of your digital life.
9.Why does the author mention his own experiences?
    A.To make a comparison.
    B.To explain a phenomenon.
C.To bring in a better solution.
    D.To clarify misunderstandings.
10.Which of the following will digital minimalists agree to?
A.Ignoring the side effect of digital tools.
B.Devoting your screen time to valuable things.
    C.Spending more time selecting information.
    D.Getting away from entertainment apps.
    11.What’s the text mainly about?
    A.Reforms in life.
    B.Technology challenges.
    C.Apps and social media sites.
    D.Technology usage philosophy.
    D
The Jishou Art Museum is located at the center of an old town in the city of Jishou. A river called Wanrong runs through the old town, adding a touch of serenity to the historical site. The architects decided to build the museum on top of the river in the shape of a bridge. By making the museum into a bridge, they hoped that people in Jishou would encounter art on their way to work, school, or shops, instead of only seeing it on a special trip.
Typical contemporary cultural institutions, such as museums and grand theaters, are treated as freestanding monuments, far away from the communities. The Jishou Art Museum, however, is integrated into the existing urban framework and well-connected with shops, restaurants, and small hotels, often with owners living upstairs.
Covered bridge (廊桥) has a long tradition in this mountainous region of China. It is used not only for crossing a river but also as a public space where travelers can rest and vendors (小贩) can set up stands. As a modern interpretation of this building type, the Jishou Art Museum has introduced art as a new addition to the covered bridge.
The art museum is composed of two bridges, one on the top of the other. The lower level is an open steel structure that looks like a roofed street for passersby and allows the flow of crowds; the upper level is a concrete arch with a small gallery inside. In between the two bridges is the art museum’s main hall for temporary exhibitions. The entrance hall, administrative office, souvenir shop, and tearoom are situated at either end of the bridge.
The Jishou Art Museum Project was initiated and supported by Huang Yongyu, a contemporary Chinese artist. The museum was completed in 2019 and had its grand opening in the summer of 2021.
12.Why was the art museum built in the shape of a bridge?
A.To help it stand on the river. B.To reduce special trips to museums.
C.To make it the center of the old town. D.To let people see art more conveniently.
13.What distinguishes the art museum from typical cultural institutions?
A.It contains shops and hotels. B.It is located in the city center.
C.It is a freestanding monument. D.It is easily accessible from communities.
14.What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about regarding the art museum?
    A.Its origin. B.Its structure. C.Its exhibitions. D.Its significance.
15.In which column of a magazine may the text appear?
    A.History. B.Science. C.Architecture. D.Entertainment.

“I’m going to school today!” announced my little brother, Trevor, bouncing to the breakfast table.
Mom looked at me. “Isn’t it great, Annie? You'll both be at the same school! And I can’t help remembering your first day to school when I had to calm you down by blowing kisses.”
Actually, it was not great at all. School used to feel like my thing. But now he would sit in my old classroom, with my old teacher. Enough! I hated to see the naughty Trevor as part of my school life.
As we arrived at the school gate, Trevor turned to me and asked whether he could play with me during the break, worried and hesitant. I shook my head and reminded him of the school rules: You small kids play in the kindergarten area. I stay on the big playground!
I pulled Trevor forward and led him to his classroom, where he was greeted by his teacher, Mrs. Morena, “Hello, Trevor! Want to come and meet the other kids?”
Trevor nodded and let go of my hand. I disappeared in a flash, excited to join my friends. When the bell rang, I was given a seat by an open window where I could see the kindergarten room if I looked outside. I faced forward, trying to focus on what the teacher was saying. For no reason, a question continuously crossed my mind: How was Trevor?
During the break, I forgot all about Trevor. It was great to be back at school! I was running to the slide when a loud cry rang out across the playground. It sounded familiar.
I looked to the kindergarten area. There was Trevor sitting in the sandbox, tears on his face.
“I want to go home!” he howled. Mrs. Morena was talking to him, but he was still crying.
I took another step toward the slide. Then Trevor cried again. My feet turned, and I was running toward him. But there was a fence between the kindergarten area and the big playground, and I couldn’t go where he was.
    注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

    【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍的是印度的排灯节。
    36.考查非谓语动词。句意:排灯节,又称灯节,是印度教为纪念财富女神拉克希米而举行的节日。分析句子结构可知,空格处用非谓语形式,festival和hold之间是被动关系,空格处用过去分词held表被动,作后置定语。故填held。
    37.考查冠词。句意:它长期以来一直是一个文化节日,在这期间,人们聚在一起,举行聚会,互赠礼物,通常祈祷未来更好。better future表泛指,前面需加不定冠词,better是辅音音素开头,因此不定冠词用a,故填a。
    38.考查动词时态。句意:对一些社区来说,排灯节的第二天标志着新年的开始。空格处是谓语,句子描述客观事实,时态用一般现在时,主语the day是名词单数,因此空格处是第三人称单数marks,故填marks。
    39.考查副词。句意:它的日期每年都会改变,因为它们是基于印度教的阴历,但通常在10月或11月庆祝这个节日。空格处修饰后面整句话的内容,应用副词typically作状语,typically意为“通常”,故填typically。
    40.考查名词。句意:庆祝活动通常持续几天。空格处用名词作主语,celebrate的名词是celebration,由后面的lasts可知,空格处用单数,故填celebration。
    41.考查非谓语动词。句意:人们经常会在他们的房子和车道上放上蜡烛和灯来照亮周围的环境。根据语境可知,空格处用不定式表目的,故填to light。
    42.考查非谓语动词。句意:对印度教徒来说,排灯节是一个慈善捐赠和无私服务的日子。作介词for的宾语应用动名词形式,因此空格处用giving。故填giving。
    43.考查介词。句意:他们被要求反思他们所感激的,以及他们如何能照亮他人。reflect on反思,是固定短语。故填on。
    44.考查动词语态。句意:印度教徒传统上对他们的家和周围环境进行深度清洁,因为清洁被认为是祈求财富和幸福的象征。根据语境可知,句子表示“清洁被认为是祈求财富和幸福的象征”,句子用被动语态,通篇时态是一般现在时,因此空格处是一般现在时的被动语态,主语cleanliness是不可数名词,因此be动词用is,故填is believed。
    45.考查定语从句。句意:印度教徒还会在地板上摆放彩色图案的花、粉、米或沙子来庆祝,这意味着会带来好运。分析句子结构可知,空格处引导非限制性定语从句,从句中缺少主语,指代前面整个主句,因此空格处用关系代词which,故填which。
    Dear Terry,
How are you doing recently? I’m studying in a local high school in your city. I am greatly interested in the art gallery in your city. I am wondering if you could do me a favor.
Firstly, could you recommend me an art gallery that is well worth visiting? Secondly, I’d like to know when the art gallery will open and how much I have to pay for the visit. Lastly, is there anything that I should pay special attention to during the visit?
I am looking forward to your early reply.
    Best wishes.
    Yours,
    Li Hua

    47.Para. 1:
Then, I did the best thing I could think of. I stand on the very edge of my playground and call, “Trevor!” He looks up and runs to the fence. I blow him a kiss. He stops crying. I blow another one, and he begins to smile. “What are you doing?” Lisa asks. “When my mom used to drop Trevor off at daycare, she’d calm him down by blowing kisses like this,” I explain. “Can I try?” she asks. “Yes” I say, and she blows Trevor a kiss. Soon Emma and Grace are blowing kisses, too. Trevor just smiles.
    Para. 2:
Soon the bell rings and the school was over. Mrs. Morena comes to get him, and he pulls a long face again. I have an idea. “Trevor! I’ll be in that window over there.” I pointed, “I’ll blow kisses through your window, OK?” As Mrs. Morena leads him inside, she lowers herself so Trevor can whisper in her ear. I run to my classroom and look out to see her opening the kindergarten window. I blow a kiss. Trevor is inside his classroom. He blows a kiss back and smiles.
