Beatrice Finkelstein, as chief of the Food Technology Section of the Life Support Systems Laboratory at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, bore responsibility for managing the nutritional needs of the astronauts. Her work in the field of space feeding was important in developing the equipment and techniques used in early space flight. Few, if any, female contributors played as important a role as she did during the early years of the U. S. crewed space program, and she deserves to be better remembered.
Finkelstein's value to America's space tasks went well beyond her technical contributions. She was frequently described in the popular press at the time as "the Nutritionist to the Astronauts", as well as the proprietor or of "Bea's Diner", a restaurant designed to appeal to the public as a very friendly place.
In her role as nutritionist for the early space program, Finkelstein grew to know the astronauts well, as she communicated with them frequently. At times, she would step beyond her formal role as nutritionist, providing emotional and psychological support to the astronauts. Researchers have succeeded in making an Al understand our subjective concept what makes faces attractive. The device(设备)showed this knowledge by its ability to create new photos on its own that were tailored to be found personally attractive to individuals(个人). Researchers at the University of Helsinki and University of Copenhagen tried to find out whether a computer would be able to identify the facial features we consider attractive and, based on this, create new images matching our criteria. The researchers used artificial intelligence to interpret brain signals and combined the resulting brain-computer interface with productive model of artificial faces. This enabled the computer to create facial images that appealed to individual preferences.
"In our previous studies, we designed models that could identify and control simple photo features, such as hair colour and emotion. However, people largely agree on who is blond and who smiles. Attractiveness is a more challenging subject of study, as it is associated with cultural and psychological factors that likely play unconscious roles in our individual preferences. Indeed, we often find it very hard to explain what it is exactly that makes something, or someone, beautiful", says Senior Researcher and Docent Michiel Spape from the Department of Psychology and Logopedics, University of Helsinki.
"If this is possible in something that is as personal and subjective as attractiveness, we may also be able to look into other cognitive(认知的)functions such as opinions and decision-making. Potentially, we might make the device fit to identify untrue ideas or prejudice and better understand individual differences," says Spape.

The modern manager has to play the role of coach in charge of their team. And that requires an understanding of the different personality types they may be managing, and indeed the role their own personality may play in the way they manage.
Karl Moore, a professor at McGill University in Canada, has written two recent articles on the role of different personality types in business. One of the most common divides is between introverts(内向的人) and extroverts. Mr. Moore calculates that around 40% of the population are introverts, 40% are extroverts and 20% are "ambiverts" who can show both characteristics.
It is easy to assume that the extroverts are most likely to go far in business. An academic study found that extroverts were 25% more likely to be in a high earning job than those who were less outgoing. It is possible that working in a high-paid job makes people more confident and outgoing, although characteristics tend to develop early in life.
But introverts should not give up hope of getting a promotion. A study in 2017 found that introverts were slightly more likely than extroverts to be appointed as chief executive(执行总监).
Ambiverts can be good salespeople because they are able to listen to their customers and understand their needs but also have the energy to sell their firms' goods and services. Mr. Moore thinks that successful executives have to become ambiverts at times in order to succeed. Introverts must try to show enthusiasm, or make an inspiring speech, when the situation calls for it. And extroverts need to shut up and listen to their teams-not least because when the boss speaks first, juniors will be unwilling to disagree.
What makes life tricky for managers is that people don't have labels on their foreheads stating which kind of personality type they are. Sometimes people make it obvious. But that means managers have to spend time chatting to and observing their team members before deciding how best to get them motivated and inspired.
