    第一 阅读下列短文从每题所给的ABCD四个选项中选出最佳选项。

    A

American Visionary Art Museum, Baltimore, USA

    Tel:410-244-1900

Ever looked at some artwork in a gallery (no doubt with words of praise printed on the wall) and thought: What's so special about that? I could do that. In fact, I could do better. Well, the American Visionary Art Museum is for you. Grounded in the idea that not all great artists go to art school, the museum focuses on self-taught art, resulting in some of the most inspirational art you'll ever see.

    Cup Noodles Museum, Osaka, Japan

    Tel:072-752-3484

Ikeda, a small city in Osaka, is the birthplace of instant noodles. The galleries at its Cup Noodles Museum document the journey from chicken noodles to "space noodles". It's a great place, where you can make your own noodles, create your own packaging and walk through an "instant noodles tunnel (隧道)".

Museo Subacuático de Arte, Cancún, Mexico

    Tel:998-810-4508

You can't help but wonder how the archaeologists of the future will describe the museum. At first sight, the underwater gallery looks like a rediscovered ancient city. It contains over 500 sculptures(雕塑品) of six different artists, which have been placed on the ocean floor for snorkelling(浮潜) tourists (and schools of fish). The museum may also be viewed by glass-bottom boat.

    Vent Haven Museum, Kentucky, USA

    Tel:859-341-0461

There's something extremely charming about entering a room and seeing a crowd of ventriloquist dummies(口技假人) staring back at you. That's what you get at Vent Haven Museum, which houses more than 900 dummies. It started as one man's private collection, and it's still semi-private (you've got to book a tour 48 hours before arriving). This is the perfect place to find out how to get into the ventriloquism game.

    21. Which number should you call if you are interested in fast food?

    A.410-244-1900.                          B.072-752-3484.

    C.998-810-4508.                          D.859-341-0461.

    22. What can you do in Museo Subacuático de Arte?

    A. Create your own artwork.                 B. Watch a ventriloquism show.

    C. See sculptures while swimming.            D. Walk through an undersea tunnel.

23.Where is the museum that requires advance booking?

I was with my mom one day as we took a walk while going window-shopping. We both knew we wouldn't be buying much. I remember I was looking up at the people we passed as we walked. Ladies wore 5-inch heels and bright clothes. Men wore expensive perfumes and creams that wiped away the wrinkles on their faces. An uneasy feeling started to settle in my chest. I could deny it no longer and I was ashamed of my mom.

We were in a high-class neighborhood. We lived in a small, expensive apartment building at the edge of our county. Mom chose to move there because she knew the schools were good. I realized for the first time that we didn't belong there.

I could see the heavy lines around my mom's eyes and mouth. She wore cheap clothes and worn-out shoes. Her eyes were tired from working long hours to make ends meet, and her hair was too gray for her age. She was nothing extraordinary, yet at that moment, she stood out because she was just so plain. I didn't want to be seen with her although there was no one important around to see me anyway. I felt embarrassed about being at her side. We were standing in the middle of a high-end store, and she was holding a sweater.

Mom said," Anna, this will look good on you. Do you want it?" It was much too expensive, but 1 almost thoughtlessly answered "Yes". Then I took a closer look at the small, tired woman with a big smile on her face and a sweater in her hands, happy to be giving me something so nice. My words died in my throat. Her clothes were worn and old because she spent her money buying me new ones. She looked so tired because she was busy working to provide for me. She didn't wear jewelry because she was content with spending what little money she had on me. Suddenly, my mom was beautiful and extraordinarily wonderful in my eyes. I was no longer ashamed of her, but of myself.

"Do you want it?" Mom repeated.

        "No, thanks," I replied.

    24. Why did the author describe the passers-by while going window-shopping?

    A. To stress her mother was plain.

    B. To show she envied rich people.

    C. To suggest she was curious about others.

    D. To indicate she was in an expensive neighborhood.

    25. What most likely made the author feel uneasy?

    A. Studying at a top school.                 B. Going window-shopping.

    C. Being seen with her mom.                D. Living in a small apartment.

    26. What does the underlined sentence "My words died in my throat." mean in Paragraph 4?

    A. She was afraid of being blamed by her mom.

    B. She was too excited to say anything about the sweater.

    C. She felt her mom was so ordinary that she stopped speaking.

    D. She failed to speak after realizing her mom's great sacrifices.

    27. What can be the best title for the passage?

    A. Misunderstanding Mom                 B. Refusing Mom's kindness

    C. Feeling ashamed of Mom                D. Going shopping with Mom

    C

Face masks and protective suits can save lives. But what happens after people are done using them? Binish Desai, the founder of Eco Eclectic Technologies from western India, saw the impact brought by the rising use of and the demand for single-use masks and kits due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so he created Brick 2.0 to prevent tons of single-use Personal Protective Equipment(PPE) from being waste and ending up in landfills or water streams.

Although PPE is essential for medical use, it is extremely necessary to assess new alternatives and to raise awareness regarding its proper use and disposal(处理). A study published by the American Chemical Society suggests that 129 billion face masks are used monthly during the COVID-19 pandemic, which causes great environmental pollution. In India alone, over 18,000 British tons of COVID-19-related biomedical waste was generated in just four months between June and September. The waste would take hundreds of years to break down, according to Waste Advantage Magazine.

Brick 2.0 is a new version of the brick made from industrial waste, now also including used face masks and protective suits. The process starts with the collection of PPE waste through garbage cans placed in small shops and apartment buildings, with easy access for people to throw away their used items. Once in the factory, the collections are kept for 72 hours for safety reasons. Then they are cleaned and torn into pieces before being mixed with other waste. Finally, the material is shaped, and once dry, each brick is ready to use. It is three times stronger than conventional bricks at twice the size and half the price.

In a complex circumstance like the one we are living in these days, this solution is not only relatively easy to operate, but also very achievable in the short term, which can really help overcome today's global environmental challenges.

28.Why did Desai create Brick 2.0?

    A. To recycle the PPE waste.                 B. To reduce production cost.

    C. To protect the water recourse.              D. To prevent the serious disease.

    29. What do the figures in Paragraph 2 indicate?

    A. The study lacks sufficient evidence.         B. The pandemic is difficult to control.

    C. The demand for face masks is in decline.     D. The environment is facing severe challenges.

30.What is mainly discussed about Brick 2.0 in Paragraph 3?

    A. Its function.                            B. Its advantages.

    C. Its main characteristics.                   D. Its production process.

    31. What can be a suitable title for the text?

    A. Innovation never ends                    B. Environmental issues count

    C. Transform waste into treasure              D. Defend your life with face masks

    D

Tripadvisor, one of the world's most popular travel sites, has recently announced that it will stop selling tickets to attractions that have captive(囚禁的) whales and dolphins. The ban(禁令) is a continuation of the company's 2016 policy that banned sales of tickets to attractions where tourists come into physical contact with animals, like elephant rides.

"Whales and dolphins do not grow well in limited captive environments," Dermot Halpin, a Tripadvisor spokesperson, said. "We believe the current generation of whales and dolphins in captivity should be the last, and we look forward to seeing the whole travel industry follow this position."

The ban applies to all attractions and aquariums(水族馆) that employ whales and dolphins for public displays.

"Our aim is to stop future generations of whales and dolphins from being raised in captivity, and we hope to see them live freely in the wild," Halpin said.

Not everyone liked the decision. Sea World, a top attraction in Florida, said the move ignored the needs and preferences of the general public. "I think Tripadvisor's new decision was made in opinion rather than in science and research. It ignores the educational value of zoos and aquariums. Tripadvisor should trust its customers to make well-informed decisions," said a Sea World spokesman. "Sea World always takes good care of all animals, including whales and dolphins. Sea World will continue to put more efforts in education and animal protection."

Tripadvisor, which serves an average of about 490 million travelers a month, said the new policy will go into full effect by the end of the year.

32.What stopped dolphins and whales growing well according to Dermot Halpin?

    A. Too limited space.                     B. Unhealthy food.

    C. Lots of public displays.                 D. Too much training.

    33. What does the underlined part "this position" in Paragraph 2 refer to?

    A. Stopping employing captive dolphins and whales.

    B. Tourists coming into physical contact with animals.

    C. Whales and dolphins living in captive environments.

    D. The current generation of whales and dolphins in captivity.

    34. Where did Tripadvisor hope dolphins and whales would live in the future?

    A. In aquariums.                         B. In protected areas.

    C. In unpolluted oceans.                   D. In the natural environment.

    35. How did Sea World feel about Tripadvisor's decision?

    A. Puzzled.             B. Proud.         C. Unconcerned.       D. Disappointed.

    根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

There's no place like home, where we're surrounded by our favourite foods and many other comforts. Most important of all, we can keep adding favorite things to give our homes a personal touch. __36__

Of course, we can be easily attracted to these unique plants. They can add a natural touch to our homes. __37__ According to the Royal Horticultural Society, nearly 72% of adults in the UK have some houseplants in their homes, and a fifth of adults say they use plants in their homes to make them feel happier.

__38__ The reason is that more and more young people are living in flats without a garden. One of those interviewed is 24-year-old Daisy Hale. She said, "Being able to beautify the small room without having to spend too much is perfect for me."

Despite the benefits, the Royal Horticultural Society is deeply concerned that the houseplants might not be good for the environment. __39__ These foreign plants might be very harmful to our environment. It is also worried about the plastic pots that hold the plants and the type of peat(泥炭) that the plants are grown in.

In short, the Royal Horticultural Society encourages people to buy local plants held in reusable pots that are filled with natural soil. __40__

    A. Some of those popular things are houseplants.

    B. However, some of these houseplants are too expensive.

    C. Many experts are opposed to buying houseplants for homes.

    D. Many of the plants bought online are shipped from overseas.

    E. Young people are driving up the sales of houseplants very fast.
