I decided at 10 that I was going to be a teacher because I had a burning desire for superpowers. As a boy, I could clearly see some of my teachers had extraordinary powers.
There was an English teacher in fifth grade who could magically transport us to different worlds every day by telling us stories and reading to us from books we would otherwise never pick up. This was our secret and fun time because fifth graders were considered too old to have stories read out to them.
It was even shocking that my teacher could see the invisible. I was one of those who lacked insight, Yet my teacher would notice me and the unspoken message in her eyes suggested that she could see me through. She had another superpower and even after four decades, I could still vividly remember her lessons about the great masters of art and great geographers, expanding our horizons. She did this even though her major was not art, nor geography. Her lessons went beyond the textbook I knew I wanted to be one of those all-seeing ones with superpowers that made children feel safe and valued.
I know being a teacher isn't the easiest or the most financially rewarding of jobs. And there are occupational risks-your knees can become worn out from years of carrying piles of notebooks up and down the school staircase, your voice can give in from too much talking. But despite all that, there are those choosing this cause. To them, teaching is not just a job-it is a science, an art and a craft, and it demands emotional labour and investment.
All my life, for three decades now, I've gone to work early each day with a spring in my step. Occasionally, I meet my former students. Their obvious love for me and fond memories of our time together are my rewards. When I meet others who thirst for superpowers, like the brand new teacher struggling to perfect her skills with a brave face on, or the one in a remote, rural school travelling 70 kilometers each day just for his pupils, I feel proud to belong to the same group.
    4. What can be inferred about the stories from paragraph 2?
    A. They were told in a magic way. B. They were written by the teacher.
    C. They contained some students' fun secrets. D. They left the students with happy memories.
    5. Which of the following best describes the English teacher?
    A. Ambitious and generous. B. Hard-working and wealthy.
    C. Caring and modest. D. Well-informed and observant.
    6. What do we know about the author as a teacher?
    A. He suffered a lot in his knees and voice.
    B. He thought teaching was more than spreading knowledge.
    C. He had some ideas of how to be a teacher at a young age.
    D. He was rewarded with much money for his devotion at school.
    7. What can be concluded about being a teacher from the text?
    A. With one thousand times for the peach garden sweet.
    B. Teachers lead the door, progress in the individual.
    C. In scholarship there is no difference of age.
    D. Learning without a teacher is hard to gain.
    【答案】4 D 5. D 6. B 7. A

Many cars in advertisements and on exhibition in the United States are red, blue or green, but almost 75 percent of new cars sold in the United States are black, white, silver or gray.
Les Jackson is a reporter who writes about cars. He says the colors of cars Americans choose do not show dirt. He says that means the owners wash their cars less in order to save money. And he notes some areas that are suffering from water shortages do not permit people to wash their cars often.
Dan Benton works for a company called Axalta, which makes supplies for international car makers. He says white cars are often sold more expensive than cars of other colors. And he notes that white cars “absorb(吸收)less energy” than cars of other colors. This means temperatures inside them are lower in warmer areas. Benton also says research at Monash University in Australia suggests that there is a lower risk of crashes during the day for white cars compared with darker ones.
Car buyers in other countries also like white. Jane Harrington works for PPG Industries, a company that makes paint for cars. She said in China, buyers say white makes a small car look bigger.
About 11 percent of cars sold in North America are red and 8 percent are blue. Green has become less popular. Benton notes that in the mid-1990s green was the most popular color in North America. Today, green is hard to find.
Sometime in the future, people may not have to choose the color of their cars —— technology may let owners change their cars’ paint color anytime.
    8. What can we learn from Paragraph 2?
    A. Most Americans don’t like red cars.
    B. People in America are not allowed to wash their cars.
    C. Many people prefer to choose white cars in America.
    D. Americans may consider the cost of cleaning when choosing cars.
    9. Why do many people choose white cars?
    A. They are much cheaper than cars of other colors..
    B. They are much safer while crashing.
    C. They are bigger than cars of other colors.
    D. They are more comfortable inside in warmer areas.
    10. What do we know from the text?
    A. Les Jackson is a member of Axalta.
    B. Most Americans rarely wash their cars.
    C. PPG Industries mainly produces cars in China.
    D. Green cars were once popular in North America.
    11. What does the text mainly tell us?
    A. Choices of car colors B. How to buy a good car.
    C. Differences of car colors. D. Popular car colors in history.
D 9. D 10. D 11. A

Emojis are very popular among mobile phone and social media users. While there are emojis of almost every kind imaginable, from dinosaurs to joyful tears and eggplants, there is no emoji for forgiveness. Seeing the need to show understanding, a Finnish group decided it was time for a "forgiveness" emoji.
Every year, the Unicode Consortium, which sets the standards, adds new emojis to the emoji keyboard on mobile phones and computers. In 2019, the Forgivemoji campaign was launched. Forgivemoji's site made an open call to the public to give their designs for a new forgiveness emoji, with the goal of presenting the symbol to the Unicode Consortium and getting it accepted by people.
Tuomo Pesonen, communications director of the Unicode Consortium, explained why the forgiveness emoji is indispensable in today's world. “In our modern communication culture, emojis are an important way of expressing human feelings beyond words.” The campaign gained popularity, reaching over two million people around the world. They received many designs, including a bandaged heart, two holding hands, and people from different cultures hugging.
After hundreds of people offered their ideas for this emoji, the winner was announced in February 2020. Former Finnish president Tarja Halonen was selected to choose the winner as she has been important in building bridges between people. The emoji that will be presented to the Unicode Consortium is an image of two hands giving a thumbs-up symbol in front of a heart. If the Unicode Consortium accepts the design, it will become available to the public in late 2021.
The Forgivemoji campaign goes far beyond having a strong influence on social media. The message of showing forgiveness and understanding is helpful for the world at large.
    12. What's the idea behind the Fogivemoji campaign?
    A. people develop pleasant habits.
    B. To get people more friendly to each other.
    C. To pick a forgiveness emoji for the public to use.
    D. To make mobile phones and computers more convenient to use.
    13. What does the underlined word “indispensable” in Paragraph 3 mean?
    A. Necessary. B. Different. C. Changeable. D. Interesting.
    14. Why was Tarja Halonen selected to choose the winner for the campaign?
    A. She launched the campaign herself. B. She designed the most popular emoji.

    15. What can be the best title for the text?

根据画线词后文“In our modern communication culture, emojis are an important way of expressing human feelings beyond words.” A. Is Managing Kids' Screen Time a Good Idea?
Screen time is a big topic of conversation in today's households, particularly during the pandemic when online education hours have multiplied for many students.___16___They hope to spare their kids from the countless challenges that technology can bring. Yet the challenges of screen time overuse seldom come from kids' devices themselves, but rather from the tense relationships that technology can bring to families.___17___But technology has positive benefits too. Since every child and family is different, managing screen time calls for joint family decision-making.
If parents believe they can manage a child's screen time through adolescence, they are not only fooling themselves but also inviting relationship trouble with their teens. It is a myth to think that parents can or should manage their kids' screen time through authoritarian restrictions, even during elementary school. ___18___ When children are left out of those decisions, they often become less communicative with parents and siblings. This is the opposite of what parents want to achieve.
___19___ From early ages, children are quite capable of understanding that a good life involves awareness and balance. Just as they learn right from wrong, and good from bad, they can also learn to use technology in healthy ways. Learning how to regulate oneself and develop healthy behaviors is one of the primary tasks of childhood and adolescence. What happens when an adult tries to regulate a child is that the child misses out on the opportunity to learn for themselves. Enforced restrictions can also make children feel helpless and less confident.
To be clear, this article is not suggesting that families never use apps or trackers, or that there should be no restrictions on screen time.___20___Parents should give voice to children and involve them in the planning and decision-making process.
    A. Of course, there are websites that are unhealthy for kids to access.
    B. The alternative is to involve children in decisions that govern screen time.
    C. However, every family needs a family media plan between family members.
    D. The goal is to see, hear, feel, and understand how children view screen time.
    E. To manage children's screen time, parents have invested in apps and trackers.
    F. To get children involved, parents should trust and develop kids' self-awareness.
    G. What it is suggesting is that parents look at managing screen time in a different way.
E 17. A 18. B 19. F 20. G
故选A项。

故填To welcome。
故填most different.

    Dear teachers and fellow students,
    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    Students’ Union
Dear teachers and fellow students,
Recently, floods have heavily struck many places in Henan province, which, as is reported, comes as a result of human activity. And extreme weather like heavy rain caused a great loss to the local economy and even claimed people’s lives. To make matters worse, it also brought about the spread of diseases and the disappearance of species.
Actually, it’s high time that we should protect the environment which human life depends on. First, we should learn to reduce the use of energy, or at least replace those fossil fuels with alternative energy. Second, recycling is the basis of a better environment at any time. Finally and most importantly, be an educator, as individuals can also make a difference.
    Always remember: our contribution counts.
    Students’ Union

[高分句型2] Actually, it’s high time that we should protect the environment which human life depends on. (运用了固定句型it’s high time that“是时候……”
Jenny was the only child in her home. She had a quarrel with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She couldn’t help weeping sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding from her mother. Having wandered aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat, but it was not possible for her, since she had nothing with her. She stood beside a stand for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she sighed and had to leave.
The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles?”
“Oh, yes...but I don’t have money on me…” she replied.
“That’s nothing. I’ll treat you today,” said the man. “Come in.”
The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive. As she was eating, Jenny cried silently.
“What is it?” asked the man kindly.
“Nothing, actually I was just touched by your kindness!” said Jenny as she wiped her tears. “Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so merciless compared to a stranger!!”
Hearing the words, the seller smiled, “Girl, do you really think so? I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you? Have you expressed your gratitude to her?”
Jenny sat there, speechless and numb with shock; she remembered mother’s familiar face and weathered hands. “Why did I not think of that? A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel indebted, but I have never thanked my mum for what she has done for me.”
On the way home, Jenny made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness as soon as she arrived home.
    注意:
    1)所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
    2)续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好.
    Paragraph 1:
Approaching the doorway, Jenny took a deep breath. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    Paragraph 2:
A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back.
    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 1: Approaching the doorway, Jenny took a deep breath. When she knocked at the door, she found the door was locked and her mother was not in. Tired and sad, she sat down in front of the house. "Where could my mother be?" she wondered, "was she still angry with me?" Again, the scene of the quarrel appeared in her mind. She remembered her rudeness to her mother. Realizing that all the scolding from her mother was due to the fact that her mother really cared a lot about her, she felt rather ashamed, and tears began to roll down her cheeks.
Paragraph 2: A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back. She raised her head and saw the familiar face of her mother. "Here you come! I've been looking for you," she said, tired and relieved. Jenny couldn't help throwing herself into her mother's arms. "Mum, I'm so sorry and thank you for all you have done for me." She expressed her sincere apology and great gratitude. Hearing this, her mother smiled patting her back gently.
Tired and sad, she sat down in front of the house.. Realizing that all the scolding from her mother was due to the fact that her mother really cared a lot about her, she felt rather ashamed, and tears began to roll down her checks.
