African students urged t play bigger rle in ties
Schlars and fficials have called n African students studying in China t further advance their rle as a bridge between the tw sides.
The China-Africa friendship can be strengthened thrugh tw-sided exchanges and cperatin, they said. "African students living and studying in China have becme a representative grup t fulfill the missin f China-Africa friendship," Ga Xiang, vice-president f the Chinese Academy f Scial Sciences, said at the first Frum n Internatinal Students frm Africa n Sunday. "They have als laid a slid fundatin fr greater prgress in the cmprehensive China-Africa partnership f strategic imprtance in the new era."
The frum in Beijing, hsted by the academy's China-Africa Institute, was themed "We, the inheritrs f Africa-China friendship". Attending were diplmats, schlars in freign relatins, media representatives and African internatinal students studying in universities in China.
The frum was held ahead f a meeting f the Frum n China-Africa Cperatin, a majr platfrm fr bilateral cperatin, in Senegal later this year.
Ga said in the pening remarks that an increasing number f students frm Africa have cme t China fr study ver the past decades, and China has becme a tp destinatin fr internatinal students frm Africa, ranking secnd nly next t France. The number f African students studying in China surpassed 80,000 in 2018.
Over the past six decades, many African students have assumed imprtant rles after returning t their hmelands and have cntributed greatly t the China-Africa friendship, Ga said. Amng them were tp gvernment fficials, senir experts in varius fields and tp executives f majr China-Africa cperatin prjects in Africa, he said.
Martin Mpana, dean f the African Diplmatic Crps and Camern's ambassadr t China, said internatinal students frm Africa studying in China have dne a lt t prmte the China-Africa friendship ver the past 65 years.
He urged them t make even better use f the knwledge and skills learned in China t develp their cuntries.
"China is making miracles every day, and I hpe African yuths studying in China can study the secrets f China's develpment, s after yu cme back yu can play yur rle and cntribute t Africa eradicating pverty, which has lng been a prblem fr the cntinent," he tld African students at Sunday's gathering.
"Yu shuld becme bridge f Africa-China friendship t prmte the develpment f bilateral relatins," he said.

Glbal fd prices are rising rapidly due t damaged supply chains, high shipping charges, COVID-19 pandemic-related disruptin and the impact f climate change in the frm f extreme heat waves, flds and drughts.
The UN Fd and Agriculture Organizatin said in a recent reprt that fd prices rse by 33 percent year-n-year in August, fllwing a 31 percent rise in July.

Sylvain Charlebis, directr f the Agri-Fd Analytics Lab at Dalhusie University in Canada, said fd prices culd rise by 5 percent n average this year.
In Eurpe, fd prducers have seen prices rise by mre than 20 percent. Françis-Xavier Rger, chief financial fficer at Swiss fd giant Nestle, said during the Barclays Glbal Cnsumer Staples Cnference last mnth, "The fd sectr is witnessing its highest level f inflatinary pressure since 2011."
China may be the nly majr ecnmy spared the wrst impacts f the price rises, due t gvernment purchases t shre up supplies, alng with relatively subdued inflatin.
